Marcus Quinn swiftly chopped the black chicken into pieces, putting the chicken, motherwort, and a few scallions together to stew, then started preparing the sour herb fish fillet.

Ada watched him clean the prepared black fish, cut it into segments, then separate the fish bones. With a few skilled moves of the chef’s knife, two plates of fish fillets as thin as cicada wings appeared, each almost identical in size and thickness, causing her eyes to widen.

"Stand back a bit, don’t get splashed by oil," the man said, as he heated the pan, added ginger slices and fish bones, frying the bones until golden before removing them, then adding oil and ingredients to stir-fry for sour fish fillet.

Once the sauerkraut fish ingredients were dry, he added some Floral Carving Wine, and let the fish bones simmer for ten minutes.

Originally, he planned to add pickled peppers, but since Ada couldn’t handle spicy food these days, he only sliced a little pepper for flavor. After cooking for ten minutes, he strained out the sauerkraut and fish bones, leaving only the golden sour broth to continue simmering for five more minutes, then he added the fish fillets.

Ada saw how complex the dish was; the sauerkraut and fish bones, not even served, were just strained out, making her realize that being a chef isn’t easy.

Once the fish fillets were in the pot, Marcus boiled the already-washed wild herb-like greens for a few minutes, thus the sour and fresh herb sour soup fish fillet was ready.

The aroma made Ada feel somewhat intoxicated; she always loved sour and spicy flavors, staring at the old sauerkraut on the side, she couldn’t help but swallow her saliva. Seeing this big pot of sour soup fish fillet, she promptly helped by bringing bowls and plates for rice.

Marcus then sliced two pig’s trotters left from the morning, placed them on a plate, completing two dishes. As for the Black Chicken Motherwort Soup that was still stewing, it was specially made for Ada to replenish blood and relieve menstrual pain.

The man’s appetite was enormous; he could eat three bowls of rice in one sitting, but didn’t eat much of the dishes, always waiting for Ada to be full before he finished off all the leftover food. So, with two dishes for dinner, he didn’t cook anything more.

Seeing Ada helping to serve rice, he suddenly felt a sense of home.

Ada took a sip of the sour soup, feeling her tongue might fall off with the freshness; it was both fresh and sour, also fragrant, with quite a powerful flavor.

"Delicious, this fish fillet is delicious." Ada opened her appetite with the smooth and tender fish fillets, looking at Marcus like he was a gold mine, smiling as she asked, "What is this wild vegetable?"

"This is a unique herb from South River, also called alfalfa. Today, I used black fish, but once I buy wild perch, I’ll make herb perch for you, which was a favorite dish of my grandfather." Marcus replied with a gentle smile, softening even the scar on his brow.

"Sure thing." Ada’s eyes curved into a smile, thinking she had truly found a treasure. The Chase Family used to have chefs, and though their food was good, it couldn’t compare to Marcus’s cooking. If she could eat such delicious meals every day, she’d find herself unable to leave Marcus.

Ada, with her little chicken stomach, soaked some rice with sour soup, eating quite a bit of fish fillet before feeling full, naturally leaving the rest for Marcus to finish.

Seeing the Black Chicken Motherwort Soup still needed an hour to stew, Marcus handed the bank card to Ada, and using Ada’s phone, registered for WeChat, linked the bank card, then downloaded mobile banking. Once everything was set up with the day’s earnings, he handed it all to Ada.

Ada counted, seeing 2000 in cash, was momentarily stunned, then looked at the bank card with her name on it, finding 9000 balance, she again froze.

"The 9000 was from selling pig trotters. I found a restaurant to supply them steadily. Since cash isn’t in vogue anymore, I’ll collect payments through WeChat in the future. The bank card was opened with your identity." Marcus watched the wide-eyed girl, suddenly feeling that earning money was a great thing, at least he could see such a cute expression on Ada.

"But I don’t have an ID card?" Ada hadn’t even asked him about getting 2000 after a day’s work, excluding groceries and Chinese medicine; she just wanted to ask him, since she was undocumented.

Marcus lowered his eyes, coughed slightly, and said, "I have a friend in a bank, internal accounts don’t require ID. Earlier, you told me your ID number, and the bank card password is your birthday. You can directly modify it on your phone."

Ada instantly felt happy, not even questioning why a plumber would have an insider at a bank. She flipped out her wallet, calculated, and found she had over 6000 in cash. With the bank card amount, she could buy Marcus clothes in good materials.

"So, do we earn 9000 yuan selling pig trotters every day?" Ada was a bit excited, her pretty eyes curving with a smile, staring at the man without blinking.

Marcus felt heated from her gaze, his cheeks slightly flushing uncontrollably, but fortunately, his skin was healthily tanned, making it invisible.

"Yes, but pig trotters can only be sold for three months; after that, I plan to give the recipe to the restaurant. It’s not a long-term solution; however, we can save up some money in the short term." Marcus, seeing her excited demeanor, was infected by her happiness, showing a slight smile.

Who sells pig trotters for a lifetime, moreover, he didn’t want too much contact with outsiders. Passing on the recipe, they wouldn’t have any reason to cling to him. Marcus was cautious.

Ada felt like jumping up and giving him a kiss; she never really thought about poverty before, but ever since Marcus rescued her, poverty had been a mountain pressing on both of their shoulders. She needed to carefully calculate how much stable income they had each month.

Marcus watched the girl calculating her income with a calculator, looking like a little miser, incredibly cute, his gaze softening.

He used to see money as dirt, Ada seemed to be raised in honey jars, yet here they were, two people with nothing, relying on each other, working hard to build their little home together, and it felt truly wonderful.
