the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1569 - 1551: Marcus Quinn’s Identity
After A-tan left the affluent district, she headed straight to the mall to buy clothes for Marcus Quinn.
It was her first time buying clothes for a man; she used to gift her father watches, cufflinks, or ties for the holidays, but never clothes.
Considering Marcus Quinn’s rugged and wild appearance, along with his physically demanding job, she couldn’t pick anything too delicate or refined. After much deliberation, she settled on loose T-shirts and casual cropped pants.
She chose one in taupe and one in slate blue, with black pants. The total cost was 1200 Yuan. After completing the purchase, she also bought him a pair of breathable summer sneakers for 800 Yuan. This whole process left A-tan starving, realizing she hadn’t eaten lunch yet, so she was too exhausted to keep shopping. She hurried home, buying a soft and tender rice cake from her neighborhood on the way.
By the time she got home, it was past three in the afternoon. A-tan, tired and thirsty from the day’s errands, fetched a jar of yuzu honey Marcus Quinn had made the night before from the fridge. She scooped some out, mixed it with hot water, and drank it like fruit tea. She took a bite of the still steaming rice cake, finding it irresistibly delicious, and ended up eating all the five-Yuan worth of rice cake she bought.
Seeing the sun was setting, A-tan quickly brewed a large pot of yuzu honey tea and put it in the fridge while waiting for Marcus Quinn to return.
Meanwhile, Marcus Quinn, as usual, was out repairing and installing air conditioners. With his outstanding performance, resilience, and non-choosy work attitude, the air conditioner company provided him with a second-hand mobile phone specifically for work contact, intending to cultivate him. They planned to recruit him for an after-sales technician role after the summer peak, as temporary workers earned more but lacked stable benefits like social insurance.
The head of after-sales repair looked at Marcus Quinn differently, giving him all available jobs, which inevitably aroused dissatisfaction from other temporary workers.
"Marcus Quinn, someone’s looking for you." When Marcus Quinn had just packed up his tools and was about to go home, he saw a group of seven or eight burly, dark-skinned men blocking his way.
The man placed the twenty kilograms tool kit on the ground and silently stepped into a nearby alleyway.
"From tomorrow, you’re not allowed to come to work," the leader of the group said viciously.
"Yeah! You’re taking half of our jobs! If you stay, we’re left with nothing to eat."
Generally, those doing such temporary jobs were either ex-prisoners who couldn’t find work or people without education or skills relying on physical labor for a living. They wanted to slack off during the summer for a basic salary and heat allowance, but once Marcus Quinn arrived, he single-handedly did more than half the work. They couldn’t even ask for a bit of heat allowance, and it was fortunate they hadn’t been fired yet. Within just a week, Marcus Quinn’s presence had induced collective displeasure.
"Your work efficiency is too low," the man spoke in a low tone.
"Cut the crap, guys, get him." The leader pulled out a knife and menacingly waved it in front of Marcus Quinn, and then the seven or eight men rushed at him.
The man’s gaze turned cold, and he showed no mercy. He kicked the leader to the ground, leaving him wailing for a long time, unable to get up.
Having not fought for a long time, once he did, his eyes revealed a savage aura. Realizing the situation was unfavorable, the remaining men attempted to flee, but the man knocked them down with a punch each.
"Brother, we didn’t realize who you are, please be magnanimous and forgive us."
"Yes, yes, we were wrong, we won’t dare again."
Marcus Quinn looked down at the group, coldly saying, "Get lost."
Too lazy to chastise them further, he exited the alley, picked up his tool kit, and took a bus home.
Upon returning to his residential area, he saw a military jeep parked downstairs, with a uniformed man squatting nearby.
Chester Walker, who had been waiting the whole afternoon, rushed over excitedly when he saw Marcus Quinn, shouting as if he’d seen his father, "Bro, I’m here to deliver documents to your wife."
Chester Walker saw Marcus Quinn for the first time in years, observing his vest, long pants, and disheveled appearance, his jaw dropped as if he could swallow an egg whole.
Marcus Quinn tapped his shoulder, pointed to the shade of a tree, and they both went over to sit.
Knowing that Chester Walker would come over once he called him, Marcus Quinn asked in a flat tone, "You got leave from the commander to come here?"
"Yes, yes, the commander immediately approved when I said I was coming to see you. He even asked when you’d go back to visit him." Chester Walker nodded like a chicken pecking rice, his eyes a little red. He finally reached out to hug Marcus Quinn, choking out, "Major Quinn, everyone has missed you over the years."
Marcus Quinn showed a faint smile and said in a low voice, "Mm, I know."
"Major Quinn, will you come back?"
Marcus Quinn shook his head, replying, "I retired due to injuries a long time ago, and my life is quite good now, I won’t be going back."
Chester Walker, a five-foot-tall man, felt like crying out loud at that moment. Injured retirement was bullshit; Marcus Quinn, even seriously injured, was a one-man army.
"If you hadn’t retired back then, at the very least, you’d be a Major General now, destined to be a Major General..."
"Let’s not talk about the past. I’m happy you came. I’ll cook tonight, call your sister-in-law, and let’s go out for dinner together." Marcus Quinn interrupted, smiling for once, and said, "Go change your clothes; your sister-in-law is timid, don’t scare her."
Chester Walker looked at his military uniform, a little stunned. Even without his insignia, could he scare his sister-in-law? If she knew about Marcus Quinn’s past feats, she would be scared to death.
Despite his thoughts, knowing that Marcus Quinn would be cooking, Chester Walker happily nodded and went off to find a clothing store, buying a casual outfit to change into.
While Chester Walker went to buy clothes, Marcus Quinn already went upstairs to fetch A-tan.
When A-tan saw him return, she immediately took out the yuzu honey tea from the fridge and poured him a large glass, smiling brightly, "Marcus, you’re back, have a glass of fruit tea to cool down."
The man set down his tool kit, and seeing her radiant smile, his expression softened a bit. He took the glass and drank it in one gulp, then said gently, "A-tan, an old friend came to see me, we’re going out for dinner tonight."
A-tan was momentarily taken aback; Marcus Quinn had friends?
"Alright, go take a shower, I’ll brew another pot of yuzu honey tea to take with us." A-tan smiled and nodded, ever since she tasted Marcus Quinn’s homemade yuzu honey tea, she couldn’t bring herself to drink fruit tea from outside. Thinking that since they were going out for dinner, they might as well bring a pot along.
Marcus Quinn nodded, his gaze falling on the men’s clothing bag on the table. He was momentarily stunned. Walking over, he looked at the clothes inside, his long-frozen eyes softening slightly, his voice a bit hoarse as he asked, "A-tan, did you buy these for me?"
