Chapter 1627: Chapter 1585: Reunion with an Old Friend (Part 2)
This house of Marcus Quinn is at least 4,500 square meters and has a separate garage.
“Well, I don’t often return to the Imperial City, so I rarely stay here. Uncle Howard helps take care of it,” Marcus Quinn said as he carried their luggage into the house. Seeing her mesmerized look, he couldn’t help but chuckle, pinching her fair cheek lightly, and said with a low laugh, “Once we’re settled, I’ll take you to see Uncle Howard.”
Alice nodded, noting that Marcus seemed not to have returned for years. Yet the spotless condition of the place suggested Uncle Howard truly took diligent care of the house. Seeing Marcus in a casual sports outfit, his tall and strong build, and immediately boiling water and unpacking the luggage like a regular young man, left her speechless. This house is worth at least a hundred million, so when they first met, Marcus, who only had 2,000 yuan in his pocket, wasn’t really a pauper. This deceiver.
Alice still found it hard to accept, sitting blankly on the chair in the yard.
Worried she was hungry, Marcus fetched the fruits and water from the suitcase, washed them cleanly, and brought them to the stone table. He also found a towel to wipe her hands and little face. Seeing her adorable, dazed look was irresistibly cute, and he couldn’t help but lean in to kiss her softly, saying, “Eat some fruit if you’re hungry, and later I’ll take you to dinner.”
His restrained kisses brought Alice back to her senses. She blushed, pushed him away, and said, “Go do your things, I need to process this.”
She needed to take her time to process. For the first time, she seriously considered that a man who could own a 4,500-square-meter courtyard in the Imperial City might not be ordinary. She had always thought Marcus’s maternal grandfather was just a hereditary chef in the Royal Kitchen, but now it seemed not that simple.
Born into wealth, she never valued money much. Marcus seemed to care even less, viewing money as dirt, thus never mentioning this nearly billion-worth courtyard. However, although valuable, one cannot simply exchange it for money, as it was an inheritance from his maternal grandfather, one he cherished too much to sell.
Alice originally thought she was marrying a retired regular guy, prepared even to farm with him for life, but this “regular” guy owns a mansion in the Imperial City!
Marcus, having unpacked the luggage, took Alice out for dinner.
The car in the garage hadn’t been driven in years. Alice watched as he lifted the cover off the car, revealing a brand new Hummer with a pretty unique license plate. She quietly glanced at Marcus and asked, “Your car?”
“The year I went to military school, Uncle Howard gifted me this car. I used to drive my grandpa’s car, which is quite old now and I don’t want to drive it much,” he said, then took Alice to see another car—indeed, a vintage jeep of great collectible value.
Noticing how cherished his grandfather’s car was, Alice smiled slightly and said, “If such a good car gets banged up, it would be heartbreaking.”
Cars from decades ago are true treasures.
“Who is Uncle Howard to gift you a Hummer?” Alice thought, considering they were about to get their marriage license and she should understand his background, she asked.
“Grandpa saved Uncle Howard’s life, so over the years, the Howard Family has been looking after us grandpa and grandson. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to Uncle Howard’s house.” Marcus briefly recounted the story. Decades ago, during the most turbulent years, many noble families’ children from the Imperial City were relocated all over the country. His maternal grandfather joined the military to the Northwest Wasteland, supporting over a dozen high-ranking officials’ children through his culinary skills, among them members of the Howard Family.
So, though his grandfather passed away years ago, his resting place in Suton and Green County remains undisturbed, otherwise, with Anfield Village only 20 minutes away from Green County, it would’ve been redeveloped for urban construction long ago.
Alice understood—good fortune favors the good-hearted. Old Mr. Quinn spent his life doing good deeds and benefiting many, so people now repay Marcus in turn.
Alice wasn’t from the Imperial City. Seacoast was quite a distance away. Young as she was, she spent her first twenty years buried in books. Not long after returning from studying abroad, her family faced drastic changes, leaving her uninformed about Seacoast’s situation, nor did she know the Howard Family’s stature among the Imperial City’s elite families.
“Why didn’t you tell me before? If I knew we were visiting elders, I would have brought some local specialties,” Alice bit her lip and said.
Marcus chuckled quietly, took her hand, opened the car door for her, and said, “No need, I’ve sent plenty of local products from the Holiday Village to the Imperial City. Enough for them to share and enjoy.”
