the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1648 - 1595: Reunion with an Old Lover (Part 3)
There was no surprise at seeing a former lover, nor was there any shock, but fear. What was he afraid of? If Marcus had only guessed before, now he’s certain that Leah’s captivity is definitely connected to Caspian.
Such a venomous serpent hidden in darkness, he absolutely wouldn’t allow it to approach Leah. A hint of cold cruelty flashed in the man’s eyes.
"Are you cold?" Marcus reached out to touch Leah’s hand. Seeing her palm was covered in cold sweat and her face somewhat pale, he frowned and took a cocktail from the attendant, giving her a sip to warm her body.
Leah took a sip of the cocktail. The icy liquid flowed into her body, causing her fingertips to tremble. Watching the high-spirited Caspian amidst the crowd, she recalled how this man had once treated her with tenderness, cherished her, and promised to marry her and love her for a lifetime. Yet, within a year, everything had changed; her heart felt desolate. She tugged at Marcus and choked back her words, "Marcus, let’s go home early."
Marcus noticed her eyes were red like a rabbit, felt a bit distressed, and softly stroked her cheek, replying in a low voice, "Then wait for me a little while, I’ll go and say goodbye to the hosts, then we’ll head home."
Leah nodded, realizing he agreed to her unreasonable request without asking the reason, she instinctively leaned closer to him, as if his presence could ward off all fear.
"Leah, sit here and don’t move, I’ll be right back." Marcus instructed softly.
Leah nodded and found a place to sit down.
Marcus gestured towards Yeats, then stood up and walked over to him, asking in a serious tone, "Did anyone from the Shaw Family arrive?"
"People from the third branch of the Shaw Family are here. But we arrived a bit early; the main branch hasn’t arrived yet. Richard Shaw might not come, but Leah Squire will definitely be here." Yeats asked in a low voice, "Is that guy causing trouble?"
On an occasion like today, though it’s an engagement party, the main branch of the Shaw Family will certainly have someone attend. Leah Squire and Lana Shaw are good friends, she’ll definitely fly over.
Marcus squinted at Caspian, who stood out in the crowd, nodded, and said in a deep tone, "He’s calm, didn’t show any panic when he saw Leah. The calmer he is, the more severe the situation likely is. I’ll inform someone from the Shaw Family with what I know. Telling Lana wouldn’t be appropriate, do you have a suitable candidate?"
"Leah Squire, right? She’s top-notch in the Shaw Family." Yeats gave a thumbs-up. Since Leah Squire married Richard Shaw, affairs in the Shaw Family have been managed by her. Yeats in the Imperial City is incredibly influential, but in front of Leah Squire, he’s as compliant as a grandson. After all, she has a loyal husband, with power reaching the heavens.
Yeats thought of Leah Squire’s devilishly beautiful face and suddenly felt a dread instilled by her beauty. That woman is not only stunning, but she can also handle herself well. And most importantly, she is exceptionally cunning. Involving Leah Squire in this is undoubtedly the right call.
Marcus nodded in agreement.
"I’ll give Leah Squire a call. For you, I’m sacrificing much, you owe me cooked meals as compensation tomorrow." Yeats muttered under his breath, "You have no idea how terrifying this woman is. Her husband is even more terrifying; ordinary people wouldn’t dare speak to Leah Squire, his jealousy could extinguish a regiment."
Yeats suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, the typically commanding Howard, his face plastered with a smile. When the call was connected, he laughed, "Mrs. Shaw, it’s me, Yeats Howard. Sister Lana’s engagement is today, when will you arrive?"
Leah Squire was slightly surprised to receive Yeats Howard’s call; though they were about the same age, they rarely interacted. What was Demon King Hun calling her for?
"I’m at the entrance, Yeats. What made you think of calling me?" Leah Squire remarked, smiling from within her car. Beside her, Richard Shaw heard this and frowned slightly; Yeats was calling his wife? Was he trying to lead his wife astray?
"It’s my little uncle asking me to pass on a message. I’m waiting for you at the engagement venue. Has Vice Admiral Shaw arrived?" Yeats chuckled and replied, nearly bowing all the way. Hopefully, the vinegar-bottle wouldn’t appear.
Leah Squire’s alluring eyes glanced at the stern man seated beside her, she smiled, "He’s not here, I’m arriving soon."
Evil matches evil; Richard Shaw can keep the Howard heir in check—indeed a worthy achievement.
Leah Squire ended the call, observing a hint of displeasure on the man’s handsome, cold face. He pinned her down and bit her, asking menacingly, "I didn’t come, hmm?"
