the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1654: Shaw Family's Counterattack (Part 3)
Richard Shaw also went to change his clothes. When he came down, he saw Lana Shaw with a somewhat pale face. She couldn’t cry in front of people anymore, just sat there silently, her face wooden. Those in the Shaw Family who knew the whole story had mixed expressions; some were angry, some relieved.
“I knew there was a problem with this guy.” Calliope Shaw spat angrily. Originally thought to be unreliable, he turned out to be even more vicious than imagined, harming the entire family of his fiancée just to climb higher.
“During this time, Calliope, it would be good for you to accompany Lana abroad for a vacation or stay in the countryside for a while, just don’t stay in the Imperial City. It’s best if the third aunt’s house doesn’t have anyone either; if the Yarn Family can’t find you, they can’t cause any trouble. As for the public opinion in the Imperial City, I’ll keep an eye on it.” Leah’s peach blossom face was slightly cold as she softly said, “Even though this event may not be good for Lana’s reputation, the Shaw Family’s daughters never have trouble finding suitors. I dare say, nowadays, any prestigious family in the Imperial City that has sons are happily thinking of connecting with us.”
“Leah, do the Yarn Family really dare to stir things up with our family?” The third aunt of the Shaw Family asked incredulously.
“They naturally won’t dare to confront us directly. You must know that sometimes playing weak and gaining sympathy can be more malicious than blatant conflict.” Leah said indifferently, “The fear is that the Yarn Family would go to extremes, even risking lives, to continue the engagement. Are we supposed to send in troops to suppress them? For people to say we are using power to bully, that would truly ruin our reputation.”
Leah’s words shocked everyone; the net the Yarn Family set was sinister. Once the engagement with the Shaw Family falls through, who would dare to engage with the Yarn Family? The Yarn Family would not sit by and let themselves fall into such a desperate situation. If sacrificing a life could turn public opinion to stand with the Yarn Family, then?
“Sis, are you saying the Yarn Family might turn the tide using someone’s life?” Calliope Shaw felt a chill all over, tightly holding Lana’s hand, realizing her hand was even colder. If that family really did that, it would be forcing Lana to die.
If the marriage failed, the Shaw Family was the victim, but if someone from the Yarn Family died, they would become the victims, and it was clear what pressure the Shaw Family would face then.
“Prepare for the worst.” Richard Shaw came downstairs, walked to Leah’s side, and spoke in a deep voice.
Everyone was shocked, not expecting a happy event to suddenly turn into a disaster, and instantly felt a heavy weight in their hearts.
Leah was also got a headache from this, but fortunately, the matter just happened; it hadn’t reached that point yet. This issue must be quickly resolved. They could only detain Caspian Yarn overnight; it must be solved before he returns home. Otherwise, if Caspian returns, the Yarn family regains their senses, it would be hard to manage.
“According to what I said before, everyone from the third aunt’s family should take a leave of absence, don’t stay in the Imperial City. Don’t bother packing, just send someone to fetch the passports, leave today. The second aunt’s and fourth aunt’s families should also take a few days off at home, lock the doors. If things go smoothly, this matter can be resolved in two days.” Leah spoke calmly and then patted Lana’s hand.
Lana Shaw’s tears rolled down; she suddenly realized marriage was never just about two people. The affair between her and Caspian Yarn had disturbed the whole Shaw Family, forcing everyone to escape disaster, because she implicated them.
Once Leah finished speaking, everyone looked at each other, then families went home and shut their doors. The third aunt’s family sent someone to retrieve the passports and discussed where to go. Leah then pulled Richard Shaw up, speaking in a low voice: “Someone should be sent to ensure Tara Chase’s safety too, Caspian Yarn cannot be released tonight.”
Richard Shaw nodded, his eyes deep, and made a phone call to Yeats Howard, asking him to take Marcus Quinn and Tara Chase to the Howard Family.
Tara Chase returned to the courtyard, feeling downcast, sitting in the yard in a daze, completely unaware of the upheaval in the Imperial City caused by her appearance and Marcus Quinn’s few words. The Shaw Family’s third Miss’s engagement banquet was completely ruined, and the Shaw Family and Yarn Family had turned against each other.
Tara sat in the courtyard, resting her chin on her hand, deep in thought. From the start, she believed Marcus Quinn was just a rough man doing manual labor, with a low social status, thus she never mentioned the Chase Family’s affairs. Like a little ostrich, she carefully tried to survive in the cracks, living frugally for daily needs. Yet now, following Marcus Quinn, she had come to the Imperial City, faced the Shaw Family, stood before her former fiancé; she realized the situation had developed beyond her expectations. How should she explain the cause and effect to Marcus Quinn?
