the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1658 - 1600: Caught Off Guard Receiving the Marriage Certificate
As soon as Tan agreed to register for the marriage certificate, she remembered her household registration booklet wasn’t with her and immediately tugged Marcus, saying, "What about the household registration booklet? It’s still at Seacoast."
Marcus couldn’t suppress the upward curve of his lips ever since he heard Tan agree to register, his eyes filled with tender affection as he looked at Yeats Howard and asked, "Is there a way to report the household registration booklet lost and get a new one?"
"Of course, it’s possible. The police station has records. Getting a new household registration booklet is a hassle. I’ll call my dad, and I promise we’ll get everything from the marriage certificate to ownership transfer handled today in one go," Yeats Howard said with a laugh, "If we can’t even pull off this kind of special privilege, what’s the point of connections?"
Saying this, Yeats Howard quickly called his dad. As soon as Sage Howard heard that the Duncan Family was coming to demand a house and Marcus needed to register for a marriage certificate and transfer ownership, he immediately got someone to handle it without saying a word.
Meanwhile, as Marcus was busy with all the arrangements, the Duncan father and daughter and the two sons from their uncle’s family were also in discussion.
"Uncle, I think the Howard Family’s Demon King Hun is giving Marcus bad advice. If we keep delaying, once people from the Howard Family come over, we’re out of luck."
"Dad, my cousin is right. How about you pretend to have a heart attack from anger, see if the Howard Family dares to meddle further," Elowen suggested.
Father Duncan maintained a stern face, feeling restless inside. He hadn’t expected that after a few years, Marcus would change so much, exuding a cold aura and sharp gaze. He also found a wife; once a man has his woman, he naturally cherishes her, pushing aside his father and sister. Moreover, over the years, Marcus was like an outsider in the Duncan Family.
It’s his own fault for being overconfident, only investigating Marcus’s assets without checking into the woman beside him. Now, it’s too late.
"Marcus." Father Duncan shouted anxiously, "Pack your things and come home with me. We’ll deal with our family matters behind closed doors. Don’t let your soft ears get swindled by those Howard scoundrels."
"Just wait a bit longer, there are things to settle," Marcus responded calmly, employing a delaying tactic, then leisurely went to make tea. This visit was such a hassle, he hadn’t even had a sip of hot tea. He didn’t mind, but today was such a joyful day, he couldn’t let his wife go thirsty.
Thinking about having a woman and children in the future, a warm bed, no longer being alone, Marcus, a rough man, was slightly excited, his usually stern face looking as if basking in a spring breeze, even making him see Father Duncan and his stepsister in a slightly more pleasant light.
Seeing Yeats Howard finish a phone call and inform her that they could get everything done today without needing to go to the Civic Bureau, no need to go to the Real Estate Bureau for the transfer of title, just wait at the courtyard, Tan was astonished, exclaiming that having power and influence was just fantastic!
Marcus brewed a pot of Dragon Well tea in the kitchen, took out two sets of cups, and brought them out to the courtyard. Seeing the Duncan Family’s faces dark as iron in the courtyard, he didn’t pay them any attention, pulling Tan along and said, "Let’s go change our clothes. We’ll need to take photos later."
Tan’s small hand was entirely enveloped by his strong, large hand, and under the man’s fervent gaze, she couldn’t help but blush slightly, nodding and saying, "Wedding photos usually have a red background, so let’s wear white shirts. It’ll look good in the pictures."
"Okay." Marcus subconsciously controlled the curve of his lips to prevent it from looking too silly, so Tan wouldn’t think of him as too daft.
As the two went to change clothes, Yeats Howard crossed his legs, sipping tea while playing games. The noise from the game only made the Duncan Family’s faces even more grim.
The Duncan Family was out of ideas. They’d originally planned to be civil first before resorting to force, intending to take Marcus and Tan back to the Duncan Family. However, with Yeats Howard’s antics in the courtyard, even if they called the police, they wouldn’t come. What else could the Duncan Family do? No one dared to step forward and hit Yeats Howard, and now Marcus was no longer the naive kid he once was.
"Go, call your husband’s family, best pull in their elders too, come ask for money. Elowen, how much dowry you can get depends on you," Father Duncan said, lighting a cigarette as he sat on the stone bench in the courtyard.
Elowen panicked, "Then I’d lose face going to my husband’s family. What if Marcus doesn’t give money and their family cancels the wedding?"
"If they cancel the wedding, even better. You’ll have food and accommodation right here in this courtyard forever," Father Duncan said.
Thinking this over, Elowen reckoned it wasn’t a loss. After all, her family couldn’t come up with much money. Her mom did hide a lot of private savings, but no one ever thinks they have too much money. So, Elowen called her boyfriend and spun a tale, saying her big brother was back, and urged their family to demand a large dowry, demand whatever they wanted!
