the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1667 - 1603: Wedding Night
Marcus Quinn originally planned to leave the Imperial City with Adan, but unexpectedly, the Duncan Family intervened, delaying them for an entire afternoon. When Sage Howard arrived to inquire, they were unable to depart.
Marcus Quinn brewed a new pot of tea. Yeats Howard, animatedly talking to his father, recounted the day’s events, starting from Lana Shaw’s engagement banquet to the shameless money demands from the Duncan and Zhao families.
Yeats Howard’s voice was so loud that it filled the whole courtyard. Marcus Quinn went to the kitchen to find tea leaves, and when Adan entered, she saw the man standing at the cooking counter, his expression obscured, silently pouring water into the kettle.
She walked over, hugged Marcus Quinn’s waist from behind, rested her small face on the man’s shoulder, and smiled, saying, "Marcus, I wonder if Water Uncle and the others have finished catching the green crabs at the scenic area. Let’s go home and continue catching crabs."
Compared to the tumultuous Imperial City, the days at the Holiday Village felt like a paradise. Adan longed for those simple and warm days.
Hearing her words, Marcus Quinn felt a lightness in his heart and grasped her little hand, "Adan, I’m fine. If the crabs are all caught, the persimmons in the forest should be ripening. When we go back, I’ll take you to pick them."
"Okay," Adan laughed, "When are we going back?"
"In a couple of days," Marcus Quinn’s eyes revealed a flash of cold determination. He originally planned to resolve the Yarn Family’s issues when returning to Seacoast next year. Given his current limited strength, since their departure was delayed, he decided to wait a few days and observe the situation’s development.
"Don’t be afraid." Marcus Quinn, sensing Adan’s slight tremble, covered her small hand with his broad palm.
Adan’s originally uneasy heart was soothed by his simple words. Yes, what was there to fear? Her father had passed away, the Chase Family was gone, and she had nothing left to lose. Marcus Quinn knew everything about her and still protected and pampered her. She no longer needed to fear the Yarn Family.
Even though the Yarn Family was the wealthiest and most prestigious in Seacoast, they wouldn’t dare act rashly against her, especially now when the Yarn Family was struggling to protect themselves.
"My dad is leaving; you two stop being lovey-dovey. It’s getting late." Yeats Howard poked his head from outside, reproaching the world and saying, "Hurry up and come back to the Howard Family with me."
Adan’s face flushed red, and she quickly let go of Marcus Quinn. Unexpectedly, Marcus Quinn held her hand tightly, not willing to let go.
"Yeats Howard, why don’t you and Uncle Howard head back first? This courtyard’s location is special, and there are plenty of armed forces around. Additionally, the Shaw Family is targeting the Yarn Family, so they won’t have the means to deal with us," Marcus Quinn said calmly.
The Yarn Family, during this sensitive period, was undoubtedly in chaos. Even if they had the ability, they wouldn’t dare easily give the Shaw Family any leverage. Thus, he and Adan were relatively safe.
On this wedding night, Marcus Quinn was certainly unwilling to spend it at someone else’s home.
Yeats Howard knew he was always decisive and, seeing the situation, was left with no choice.
"Then I’ll head back with my dad first. If anything happens, give me a call. I’ll inform people at the police station and have them send some guards to this area," Yeats Howard said.
"Alright. Have a cup of tea before you leave." Marcus Quinn carried the water-filled kettle and tea leaves back to the courtyard to brew tea for the Howard father and son.
Standing in the courtyard on the phone, Sage Howard saw Marcus Quinn bringing out the items to brew tea. He said a few words before ending the call and smiling, "I heard from Yeats that you two got your marriage certificate today. Couldn’t believe the Shaw Family’s careful selection of auspicious days ended fruitlessly, yet you two succeeded."
Upon hearing Sage Howard’s words, Marcus Quinn and Adan exchanged a glance and smiled. It was indeed a fortuitous turn of events; who would have expected the Duncan Family to come demanding money?
"This is called a heaven-sent match," Yeats Howard said with his legs crossed, only to receive a slap to the head from his father.
"What kind of conduct is this? Put your feet down. Look at Marcus; he’s settled down. And look at you, acting like a loafer."
Yeats Howard: "..."
"Yeats Howard just has a wild personality but is very composed in critical situations. If it wasn’t for him today, Adan and I might have suffered," Marcus Quinn timely defended Yeats Howard.
Sage Howard, who loved his son deeply despite his shortcomings, felt genuinely pleased upon hearing this.
"I’ll go get some snacks. Marcus made them," Adan said, quickly going inside to fetch several plates of snacks: one plate of Seven Layer Taffy, one of spicy beef jerky, one of fish skin peanuts, one of nut candies, and one of candied kumquats.
Adan brought out five plates of small treats, arranged beautifully, both in appearance and presentation. Initially thinking of declining, the Howard father and son were tempted by the aroma, and knowing Marcus made them, they gladly accepted.
