The Villain Reborn as Game's Final Boss

Chapter 314: Poor Soul [3]

"I am no longer a kid, brother."

After a short silence, Samara moved closer to her brother before standing next to him.

"Do you really think I am the same ignorant girl from childhood that you and father could fool with your lies?"

Hm?

Though Samara wasn’t crying, I could see her eyes becoming moist as she looked at her brother with firm determination in her eyes.

Haa...

These theatrics of family bonds had always repulsed me to my core.

Still, I couldn’t look away, as knowing more about these two would help me to control them in a far better and more efficient way.

"Samara."

Jacob, simply resigning himself to be defeated in the war of words, looked down towards the ground, as he might have felt guilty about lying to his sister.

Right now, looking at the two of them, I felt like I was watching some movie with a lot of emotions in it.

My eyes couldn’t bear to see such ugly scenes, though I still held on.

"Are you working for the cults?"

Samara’s question caused Jacob to look at her, though he didn’t seem surprised by her words.

Maybe over the time that they had been together, Jacob might have already suspected his sister of having hints about his relation with the cults.

And my mention of his superiors along with the attack by the cults seemed to have struck the final nail in the coffin for the werewolf.

Though Jacob didn’t reply to his sister’s question... his silence was an answer in itself.

"So all the resources that we had been getting until now were provided by them?"

"..."

"Was all that wealth derived from the blood of the innocents?"

Blood of the innocents, huh.

Though Samara was genuinely hurt by the truth, and it could clearly be felt from her words... I, on my part, found her statement to be an amusing one.

She might have suspected her brother quite a long time ago, but still remained silent on the matter.

Wasn’t she an equal partner in his actions?

"Samara... I had never killed anyone nor had I done anything wrong towards the people."

Jacob, knowing what thoughts must have been going through his sister’s mind, tried to clarify the situation, but looking at Samara’s expression, she didn’t seem to be condemning him.

"It’s alright. I can understand that you had no choice but to walk in father’s footsteps."

Samara’s words made Jacob turn silent, as his eyes had now begun to water up.

"I am not blaming you, it’s just that... please include me in whatever you do from now on."

Both the siblings had now turned emotional, as tears began to stream down their faces.

Though one could call the conversation before me a part of the natural turn of events, I couldn’t help but focus my eyes on Jacob’s sister.

Even if I couldn’t be called the best person at analysing the people around me... I considered myself decent enough in the given field.

And looking at Samara and the ease with which she had accepted the situation... a new thought arose in my mind.

Something that surprised me quite a bit, as it was rare for me to misjudge the people around me.

"How long had you known about it?"

My words were directed at Samara, who looked at me while wiping the tears from her eyes.

"What do you mean?"

Trying to play ignorant, huh.

"How long had you known about Jacob’s involvement with the cults?"

I repeated the question while moving closer towards the twins.

"She didn’t—"

"I had only suspected him of being involved in something shady. I never knew it was the... cults."

Samara lowered her voice to a whisper at the end, making Jacob look at her with a guilty expression on his face.

"Let me rephrase my question... how long had you known about your house being involved with the cults."

"..."

That seemed to have hit the mark, as Samara’s face had now frozen at my words.

I could see her pupils dilating in real time, as if a secret she had long been trying to bury had been thrown across her face, and that too before her brother... who should have never known about it.

"She wasn’t involved in any of it, so stop treating her like some criminal!"

Jacob seemed to have gained back his courage as he uttered the words with a growl.

Long gone was his soft voice, now replaced by his beastly habits.

"Are you sure of it?"

"I am—"

"Looking at the expression on your sister’s face... she wouldn’t agree with you, would she?"

My question made Jacob turn to look at his sister, who was still frozen in her place.

"Samara... you don’t have to answer him. I know it was my fault for following in father’s footsteps and joining that bloody cult—"

"I knew about it."

"Huh?"

How sweet.

I had never expected the girl to agree so easily to my accusations.

Maybe... she really did love her brother.

"Jacob."

Saying her brother’s name, Samara looked into his eyes, before moving closer to him and wrapping her arms around his back, as she hugged him while breaking down into more tears.

"Father had already told me about everything."

"..."

It was now time for Jacob to be frozen in his place.

The revelation must have been quite the heartbreaker for him.

"I am s-sorry I didn’t tell you about it. Father wanted you to work for the cults, so he had asked me to pretend to be ignorant about everything, so that you wouldn’t be burdened by the fact, and that you would try your best... to work for my sake."

Every word uttered by his sister might have been like a dagger to Jacob’s heart, as I could see his eyes now having a new stock of tears in them, as they were quickly emptied out while streaming down his face.

Poor soul.

"I wanted to tell you everything, but before that father had been killed by the authorities, and then I couldn’t bring myself to break the promise that I had made to him."

I had no choice but to wait till the family drama was over.
