The Wizard's Pursuit of Truth
Chapter 326: Wang Ya vs. Duoguyin, Forceful Suppression
He wore a dark Wizard’s Robe, and a crow with black feathers and white stripes was perched on his shoulder. It curiously eyed the food in the shop with its tri-colored pupils of gray, white, and black.
Hank was stunned. ‘When did this figure appear?’ None of them had even noticed, and their Extraordinary Spiritual Power had been completely useless.
He was right there in front of them, yet it felt as if he were an illusion—a ridiculous contradiction of their senses.
Then, Hank noticed the Dark Land insignia on the man’s outer Law Enforcement Wizard Robe.
Hank’s face went deathly pale, his lips trembling. The Wizards behind him fared no better.
‘This is a real Dark Land Wizard, and he heard every word we said.’
‘We’re screwed!’
The rules were the supreme decree of the Dark Land Wizards. No one was allowed to defy them—not even the Dark Land Wizards themselves, who were expected to adhere to them strictly.
This was a defining feature of the Dark Land.
In the territories of other Wizard Influences, no regulations existed to constrain Wizards, much less prohibit them from slaughtering mortals. There, you could even see mortals and Wizards coexisting peacefully within a Wizard City, engaging in mutually beneficial trade.
Hope flared in the shopkeeper Wizard’s eyes. As if he’d found his savior, he exclaimed, “Master Wizard from the Dark Land! These men have violated the rules of White Lake Wizard City—the very rules established by the Dark Land! Please, apprehend them! Kill them all!”
Wang Ya adjusted the Black Lotus Mask on his face with his right hand. His gaze, seen through the mask’s hollow eye sockets, was mysterious and profound, as if it could pierce right through a person’s heart.
He glanced at the shopkeeper Wizard, then at the shabby appearances of Hank and his group. A moment’s thought was all it took for him to grasp the situation.
Startled by Wang Ya’s gaze, Hank and the others stared at him in extreme suspense.
Hank steeled himself. ‘Even if it costs me my life, I have to fight back against this injustice.’ Even if this Dark Land Wizard decided to attack, they would find the courage to resist him.
‘Living with dignity is more important than following the rules.’
Hank felt his Wizard’s Heart surge. The Wizards behind him showed the same grim resolve.
This was despite the despair-inducing gap in power they felt emanating from Wang Ya.
“You ungrateful bastards! A Wizard from the Dark Land is here and you’re still trying to cause chaos in White Lake Wizard City? You’ll all be purged sooner or later.”
The shopkeeper Wizard clearly knew some inside information.
In fact, Wang Ya could already see the true situation. The outer district was relatively calm; although auras of Witchcraft Energy flared up here and there, it wasn’t yet chaotic.
Most of the fluctuations in Particle Energy were concentrated around the Extraordinary Shops, places that held Extraordinary Resources.
‘Probably just Wild Wizards trying to profit from the chaos.’ These people were of no concern to Wang Ya. The Inner City Area, however, was a completely different story. There, chaotic fluctuations of Particle Energy and ceaseless waves of Witchcraft Energy were tangled together, their very Qi interconnected.
Even Wang Ya felt a chill run down his spine. ‘Just how many Wizards are fighting in the inner city?’
In short, White Lake Wizard City had descended into chaos, and both the Law Enforcement Wizards and the City Lord Mansion Wizards were nowhere to be seen.
He would have to go to the Inner City Area to see the situation for himself.
‘The best-case scenario is that the Extreme Wizard Apprentices defending White Lake Wizard City are still alive,’ he thought. ‘With the support of the six of us, we could regain control of the city’s order and purge the invading enemies.’
To deal with the situation, Wang Ya simply extended his pale, slender fingers from beneath his sleeve. In the next instant, a wave of deep, dark light scattered outward, directed squarely at Hank and his group.
Although the dark wave of light looked utterly unremarkable, just a slowly expanding ripple, the danger it posed to Hank and his men was lethal.
They couldn’t let it touch them. They would die.
The warning screamed from the depths of their souls.
Their eyes widened in terror as the Particle Energy within them surged violently.
The Wizards who had been readying their spells unleashed them, attempting to counter the unremarkable dark wave that was now expanding toward them.
But the result plunged them into despair. No matter the Witchcraft or burst of Particle Energy they unleashed, the moment it touched the plain-looking dark wave, it completely disintegrated, reverting to raw, natural particles.
The temperature began to rise, and a searing heat roasted their bodies. Then, black flames truly ignited, coiling around their right legs.
The process was fleeting, lasting less than a second.
In that single moment of excruciating pain, their legs were incinerated into nothingness by the black flames.
Even at its weakest, Burning Silence Particle Energy was not something this band of Wild Wizards could possibly withstand.
Lacking a proper magical lineage, this underclass of Wizards survived by scraping together Extraordinary Resources and Extraordinary Magical Plants. What real combat ability could they possibly possess?
“My foot! It’s gone! The pain… No… My leg! I can’t accept this!”
Some of the Wizards collapsed, clutching the stumps of their thighs and wailing in agony. The intense, focused heat had instantly cauterized their wounds, charring the flesh.
Hank was among them, his screams joining the chorus of agony. He had no capacity to endure such pain—it was the feeling of his very cells being incinerated into nothingness.
Worse, the Particle Energy radiating from the wounds would continue to corrupt and destroy the remaining tissue.
