Chapter 250 - 15: The Maid Who Starts to Have Fun

  • Next Chapter

After calming down and at Flora’s urging, the Maid logged into the messenger app and checked the temporary player group chat for this instance.

There, Duan Someone mentioned that he had seen what the three students had done. He asked her and Flora to assist them, stating that it was related to a hidden mission.

Finally, he added that he couldn’t reveal the details of the hidden mission, but he assured everyone that he would absolutely not harm the other players.

Although everyone knew promises from someone you just met were unreliable, Duan Fei had at least made his position clear. There was no harm in trusting him for the time being.

Besides, helping NPCs fight against other players sounded like fun.

On top of all that, she asked Flora a crucial question: "What about overtime pay?"

"...Quadruple pay."

The promise of quadruple pay was all it took to fire up the Maid’s enthusiasm.

She immediately stuffed the mop back under her skirt, pulled the trembling Glasses to his feet, and propped up the unconscious Pot Lid Haircut and Wang Yun on chairs.

Then, producing a teapot and cups from under her skirt, the Maid smiled, poured everyone a cup of tea, and said to Glasses, "Alright. You want to uncover the teachers’ secrets, right?"

Glasses struggled to control his trembling hands, trying not to spill the tea in his cup.

To avoid provoking the beast before him any further, he said with a tremor in his voice, "Yes."

"And then? After you know the secrets, what do you plan to do?"

Sensing that the Maid didn’t intend to harm them any further, Glasses ventured, "Change the dean and our classmates back to the way they were."

"I see... Understood. I’ll assist you."

"Why would you help us? Aren’t you all teachers?"

"Different people have different goals. Don’t lump us all together just because we’re teachers. Alright, you’re the commander now. What do you want us to do?"

"First, tell me what your goal is."

"What do you think it is?"

Glasses was about to retort, ’I’m the one asking you,’ but then he noticed the broad smile on the Maid’s face and guessed she was testing him.

’So, what do the teachers want?’

’The food has improved, which means the teachers don’t want to abuse them. The new card-drawing mechanic does have some benefits. And from what I’ve seen, the student dorms seem to have gotten better, too—the old, worn-out quilts have been replaced with new ones.’

’The dean’s voice seems more energetic, not as hopeless as before.’

’Other subtle things are changing, too. Meals have gone from two a day to three. The food is much more refined. The drinking water no longer has a weird smell and can even be used for bathing.’

’All these changes indicate that the school’s situation is improving.’

’But why?’

’Things don’t just go from good to bad, or bad to good, for no reason.’

’There must be some external force that changed the course of events, causing this large-scale improvement.’

Having reached this conclusion, Glasses said slowly, "You’re... helping us?"

"That’s one conclusion. Anything else?"

’The rankings and the card-drawing system have made everyone restless and uneasy. Anxiety is written on nearly every student’s face. I’ve never seen anything like it before.’

Following this line of thought, Glasses continued, "But you’ve also brought suffering. Putting the two together... you are helping us, but that help isn’t free. You have to make us suffer to be able to help us?"

The Maid was somewhat surprised by Glasses’s deduction.

Since Duan Fei hadn’t revealed all the details, the Maid herself had only vaguely suspected as much.

But for this NPC to figure it out with so little information made the Maid realize Glasses had potential.

’Things are getting more and more interesting.’

At first, she was just in it for the overtime pay. But now, the Maid had found a new source of amusement. Her goals were now fun *and* overtime pay.

So, she shifted gears and said to Glasses, "Sure. Your deduction is probably correct."

"What do you mean, ’probably’?" Glasses asked suspiciously.

"It means I don’t know what the other teachers are thinking either."

"What!"

"That’s why I said the teachers aren’t all on the same page. Now, what’s your next move? I’ll give you my full support."

The Maid’s smile was gentle and warm, but like a bizarrely flavored cup of black tea, it left him with no idea what her true intentions were.

Swallowing hard, Glasses knew she was dangerous. But with a vast conspiracy looming before him, he had to use any power he could get to break through the darkness.

Staring into the Maid’s eyes, Glasses said, "Tell me, how many other teachers are there?"

"Three. And let me warn you, one of them is even stronger than me. Also, don’t even think about trying to persuade the dean. He’s already one of them."

"...Miss Maid, are you always this inappropriate?"

The Maid ruffled the hair of Flora, who was beside her. "Do you think I’m a serious person?"

"That’s like asking if a dog eats meat," Flora said indignantly. "Can’t you let me go? Why am I still tied up?!"

"I guess it’ll be eggplant tonight."

"You’re talking about dinner, right?! Tell me you’re talking about dinner!"

Watching the bickering pair, Glasses felt that of all the teachers he’d met, these two were by far the most inappropriate.

After finally getting the Maid to settle down, Glasses continued, "Next question. What can you tell me about the other three teachers?"

"Hmm... the petite one, the girl who seems perfect for some ’forced play,’ is named Lin Daiyu. By the way, do you know what ’forced play’ is? It’s where you..."

"Ma’am, please conduct yourself with dignity."

"Alright, so ’forced play’ is when..."

"Please, conduct yourself with dignity!"

"Sigh... Kids these days have no thirst for knowledge."

"..." Faced with the Maid’s transparent attempts to bait him, Glasses chose to remain silent.

Shrugging, the Maid continued, "Lin Daiyu is probably a melee-type Profession, but since all the teachers here have the same Attributes, her Power is likely very limited. She also seems quite afraid of Deceitful Objects, so if you’re looking for a weak point, she’s one."

"Jinghong’s melee Power is greater than mine, which makes her a handful. However, I have a foolproof way to defeat her. Just give me a chance to get her alone, and I can win."

"As for Duan Someone... that guy seems to be full of weaknesses, but when you look closer, it’s like he doesn’t have any. Guys like that are the hardest to deal with, so I suggest we save him for last."

"Alright, I’ve told you what I know about everyone. So what’s the plan, Captain?"

Watching the Maid casually give up such detailed information about her companions, Glasses only found her more and more mysterious.
