It seemed as though everyone had quickly forgotten their momentary panic, and everything returned to perfect order. However, Chen Momo still remembered that loud bang. Based on her experience, it was the sound of an explosion. She was confident that the truth would come to light soon enough!

The next day.

Chen Momo had yet to get out of bed when a sudden burst of cheers erupted downstairs.

“The sun is rising! Look, everyone, the sun is up!”

“Wow, it really is the sun!”

“Wake up, everyone! Come out and see the sun!”

The cheering was deafening.

Chen Momo jolted upright in bed. “The sun is out?”

She quickly threw on her clothes and rushed to the window. Pulling back the curtains, she saw a red morning sun hanging in the eastern sky like a giant lantern!

The sun really was out!

Overjoyed, Chen Momo immediately went to knock on Xu Xiaoka’s door. “Xiao Ka, wake up!”

Xu Xiaoka rubbed her sleepy eyes and asked groggily, “What’s wrong, Sister Momo? It’s only a little past six. I haven’t slept enough yet!”

“The sun is out!” Chen Momo exclaimed.

“The sun is out… I got it…” Xu Xiaoka mumbled in a daze.

But then her brain finally processed the words, and she snapped fully awake. She grabbed Chen Momo’s arm and asked, “Sister Momo, what did you say? The sun is out?”

Chen Momo nodded. “That’s right. There are already a lot of people downstairs watching the sunrise. Let’s go down and take a look!”

Xu Xiaoka was so thrilled she could barely speak. “Is that even possible? We haven’t seen the sun in almost a year, and it’s out today?”

“Stop dawdling and get dressed,” Chen Momo urged.

Now, Xu Xiaoka was completely wide awake. The sun! It had been a whole year since they last saw it!

Xu Xiaoka and Chen Momo rushed downstairs together, only to find a massive sea of people already gathered outside. There were mothers holding their children, couples leaning affectionately against each other, and people snapping photos with their phones.

In the eastern sky, a golden sun slowly rose above the horizon like a glowing lantern. It shone like a warm, radiant smile, bright and vivid.

Some young children who had never seen the sun pointed at the eastern sky with a mix of curiosity and fear.

“Mommy, what’s that?”

A mother stroked her child’s cheek and said emotionally, “That’s the sun, my child.”

“The sun?” The little one seemed completely unfamiliar with the concept.

Tears welled up in the mother’s eyes as she replied, “That’s right. After a whole year, we finally get to see the sun again.”

Xu Xiaoka was so excited she was rambling incoherently. She tugged hard on Chen Momo’s arm, pointing eagerly at the sky. “Sister Momo, is that really the sun?”

Chen Momo shot her a speechless look. “Xu Xiaoka, that’s the third time you’ve asked me that.”

Suppressing the excitement in her heart, Xu Xiaoka no longer complained about the sun’s glaring light like she used to. Instead, she quickly whipped out her phone and snapped picture after picture—CLICK CLICK CLICK.

Some children were so overjoyed that they started running around in the daylight. Even though the air remained bitingly cold, the crowd lingered for a long time. Everyone chattered animatedly, reluctant to look away, as if terrified the sun would vanish from the sky the moment they blinked.

Xu Xiaoka asked, “Sister Momo, how did the sun suddenly come out?”

Chen Momo didn’t answer. She remembered the loud bang from yesterday, harboring a vague feeling that the explosion was inextricably linked to the sun’s appearance today.

And Chen Momo’s intuition was spot on.

At this very moment, several people bound tightly in ropes stood before Beiming Qianye. Behind them stood several soldiers, their rifles aimed directly at the captives.

Just yesterday, Beiming Qianye’s subordinates had successfully located the Heilong Gang’s hideout. They shot and killed the leader and captured the rest of the gang in one fell swoop.

The Heilong Gang had built a technological base near their hideout. They had developed an advanced technology to continuously spray chemical substances into the atmosphere, effectively blocking out the sunlight. Once the gang was wiped out, their so-called scientific research base was blown up along with them.

The loud bang Chen Momo heard last night was the explosion that destroyed the Heilong Gang’s facility. With the base gone, they could no longer spray their sun-blocking chemicals into the atmosphere. Thus, the sun returned this morning!

Shen Zhongchen walked over, his voice filled with emotion. “Chief, the people in all the bases are cheering. After a whole year, everyone finally gets to see the sun again! Soon, the ice and snow will melt, and people can resume their normal lives!”

This was a monumental victory!

Beiming Qianye remained silent as the image of Chen Momo’s face floated into his mind once again. She was the one who had given him this strength. He had originally thought he wasn’t far from death. He had lost the will to live, let alone the energy to deal with the Heilong Gang.

But now, knowing that Bai Zilin was still alive, Beiming Qianye suddenly felt like he had been reborn. He pulled himself together, combined all the clues he had gathered over the years, and worked day and night analyzing every detail until he finally eradicated the Heilong Gang’s hideout in one decisive strike.

“This is not my achievement alone,” Beiming Qianye said.

Shen Zhongchen looked at him, not understanding what he meant by those words. But only Beiming Qianye knew that this was a shared victory between him and her. If Chen Momo’s spirit hadn’t secretly supported him and given him strength, he never would have had the energy to take on these deranged lunatics.

Suddenly, one of the bound Heilong Gang members dropped to his knees with a heavy THUD.

“General Beiming, please spare my life! I only did it to put food on the table. I’m still young, and I have elderly parents and young children to feed. I can’t die like this! I haven’t even properly cared for my parents yet…”

The man in black kowtowed so hard that his head hit the floor—THUD THUD THUD. He remained kneeling, slamming his head against the ground until his forehead split open and blood began to seep out.

However, Beiming Qianye was completely unmoved. A frigid, murderous intent surged within his eyes.

“Execute them all,” Beiming Qianye ordered coldly.

He remembered that explosion. These people had been so cruel to his woman, almost causing him to lose her forever. Today, he would make them pay in blood. This was his revenge. For every member of the Heilong Gang, a life would be paid in return!

Several of the captives fainted from sheer terror on the spot.

“Drag them all out and carry out the executions,” Shen Zhongchen commanded coldly.

The rifle-bearing soldiers immediately stepped forward and dragged the bound men away.

Beiming Qianye turned to Shen Zhongchen. “Secretary Shen, prepare a car.”

Shen Zhongchen frowned. “Chief, where are we going?”

“To the Han City Base,” Beiming Qianye replied.
