Thirty Days to Hoard: Reborn into the Frost
Chapter 120
Beiming Qianye said, “To Han City Base.” He couldn’t wait to see her.
Shen Zhongchen said worriedly, “But Chief, you just wrapped up such a major case. You should really get some rest. Won’t you take a break before going?”
A smile involuntarily surfaced on Beiming Qianye’s lips. “No, I don’t want to wait any longer.”
Shen Zhongchen hesitated. However, seeing the joyful gleam in his boss’s eyes, he felt a stir of emotion. For as long as he could remember, Beiming Qianye’s gaze had always been deep and melancholic, as if he were perpetually weighed down by heavy burdens. Today was the first time in many years that he saw that radiant, youthful joy shining in Beiming Qianye’s eyes again.
It turned out that love truly could change a person.
Shen Zhongchen immediately nodded. “Understood, Chief. I will go prepare the car right now.”
“Wait,” Beiming Qianye called out, stopping Shen Zhongchen just as he was about to leave.
Shen Zhongchen paused and asked respectfully, “Chief, do you have any other orders?”
“Let’s return to the residence first,” Beiming Qianye said. “I’m going to take Xiao Bao with me to see her.”
Tapping his long, slender fingers gently against the sofa, Beiming Qianye thought, “She must be missing Xiao Bao too.”
These past few days, he had made sure Xiao Bao was impeccably cared for. Not only had he tailored a developmental plan to suit the boy’s personal interests, but he had also bought him plenty of his favorite books and toys, allowing Xiao Bao to thrive to his heart’s content. Xiao Bao had grown quite a bit taller over these last few months! Naturally, the boy had also grown much closer to him.
At the mention of Xiao Bao, Shen Zhongchen smiled as well. The child was indeed mature for his age and incredibly endearing.
“Understood, Chief,” Shen Zhongchen replied.
At Han City Base, the base’s broadcasts were blaring across the settlement.
“Everyone, hurry back to your respective rooms! Especially families with children! Haven’t you heard the saying? ‘The snow isn’t cold, but melting snow is freezing!’ The sun has come out, and the heavy snow will soon melt!”
The broadcasts incessantly urged people to return indoors. However, who would actually go back? Having not seen the sun for an entire year, they had finally caught a glimpse of it. Everyone was going crazy, staring unblinkingly at the sky, completely unwilling to leave.
Chen Momo, however, indeed felt a sudden chill wash over her. She looked up at the surrounding trees and saw snowmelt continuously dripping from the branches. It seemed the ice and snow were about to melt entirely.
“Xiao Ka, let’s head home. It’s going to get freezing soon,” Chen Momo said.
Xu Xiaoka was reluctantly lingering, holding her phone up to record the sun nonstop. She planned to post all the footage to TikTok. After all, her TikTok account had turned her into an influencer with a hundred thousand followers. Although she didn’t have millions of followers like Chen Momo, a hundred thousand followers still made her a veritable micro-influencer!
After Xu Xiaoka uploaded the video, it quickly attracted a flood of likes from her fans. Only after Chen Momo urged her a few more times did she finally tear herself away and head home.
Once they arrived, Chen Momo began considering her next steps. As soon as the sun melted the ice and snow and the world returned to order, regular currency would quickly bounce back. When that time came, the base credits would lose their value, just like the RMB had right before the apocalypse. She needed to quickly exchange all the base credits in her possession before the apocalypse officially ended!
Chen Momo returned to her room, entered her spatial dimension, and opened her safe. Over this recent period, her personal savings, combined with the funds from her franchisees, had pushed her total assets past the hundred-million mark. She had already converted a portion of her wealth into gold, leaving her with over fifty million in base credits on hand. She intended to convert every last bit of that fifty million into gold or other valuables. Once the apocalypse ended, she would sell these items and exchange them for the new post-apocalyptic currency.
But where would she find enough trading channels for such a massive exchange?
Well, Chen Momo was currently an influencer with millions of followers. Whatever she wanted or needed to do, all she had to do was promote it online, and people would immediately come flocking to her. Thus, Chen Momo posted an announcement on her TikTok declaring that she was purchasing gold and diamonds.
Sure enough, not long after the post went live, she received a deluge of private messages. The people messaging her were those who had amassed large quantities of gold and silver jewelry before the apocalypse, which unfortunately had proven completely useless during the disaster. Now, they were more than willing to sell their gold, silver, and diamonds at a steep discount in exchange for base credits.
Chen Momo immediately capitalized on the rock-bottom prices, purchasing directly from her followers. She successfully converted her remaining fifty million base credits into gold, diamonds, and similar assets.
Gold and diamonds retained their value incredibly well. Chen Momo anticipated that once the apocalypse concluded, the prices of these precious metals and gems would skyrocket. At that time, all she had to do was exchange the cheap gold and diamonds she had hoarded back into whatever cash was used in the newly restored world!
After Chen Momo finished converting all her own assets, she urged Xu Xiaoka to exchange her base credits as well.
Xu Xiaoka asked cluelessly, “Sister Momo, I don’t even have a use for that much gold and diamonds. Why are you making me spend all my money on them?”
Knowing it would be impossible to explain clearly to Xu Xiaoka in a short amount of time, Chen Momo simply told her, “Just do as I say for now.”
Although Xu Xiaoka didn’t understand her reasoning, she had always been very obedient. Having followed Chen Momo for so many years, the facts had proven that Chen Momo was almost always right. Since she told her to do it, Xu Xiaoka didn’t overthink it. She kept a small allowance for living expenses and used all her remaining base credits to purchase gold and diamonds.
Xu Xiaoka had made quite a lot of money working alongside Chen Momo recently. Coupled with the fact that luxury goods were incredibly cheap during the apocalypse, she managed to buy a substantial haul with her earnings.
With all the wealth she had accumulated during the apocalypse successfully converted, Chen Momo simply had to wait for the world’s order to return to normal. Once the apocalypse ended and normalcy was restored, her pickled fish franchise plan would be able to expand even more smoothly. When that time came, her restaurants would spring up everywhere like bamboo shoots after a spring rain! She was going to open Chen Momo’s Pickled Fish branches in every corner of the country!
What Chen Momo didn’t know was that an even greater surprise was waiting for her.
Beiming Qianye was currently on his way to Han City Base with Chen Xiaobao. He knew that Chen Momo had lost all of her past memories. She no longer remembered any of the sweet little details that once belonged exclusively to the two of them. At the thought of her spending these past few years by another man’s side, Beiming Qianye couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache.
He was going to help her regain her memories.
