Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 153: Taking a Goddaughter
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Taking a Goddaughter
On the morning Chloe York was scheduled to visit, Sophia Quinn had the staff start preparing lunch bright and early.
She figured Chloe would be hungry by the time she arrived.
When it was about time, Sophia Quinn and Miss Prescott went to wait for her in the garden.
When they saw a car pull up, their faces lit up with joy.
After paying the driver, Chloe York got out of the car. She immediately spotted Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn standing in the garden.
"Grandma, Auntie!"
"Oh, Chloe, dear! Chloe’s back!"
The main gate was already open. The two women walked toward Chloe, and Chloe walked toward them.
Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn each took one of Chloe’s hands.
"Chloe, you’re finally here! Come, let Auntie have a look at you. How have you been at school?"
Miss Prescott also spoke in a loving tone, "Good girl, are you getting used to university? Is the coursework tiring? Are you comfortable in your dorm?"
"I’m doing well, Grandma, Auntie. And you?"
"We’re doing well, too!"
"Come, let’s go inside. Auntie had the maids prepare lots of your favorite dishes."
"Okay, thank you, Auntie!" Chloe said her thanks as she followed them inside.
"Chloe, there’s no need to thank your auntie. If you keep this up, I’ll get angry," Sophia Quinn said, feigning anger.
"Alright, no more thank yous!"
The three of them chatted and laughed as they made their way to the dining room, where the table was already laden with a feast.
And it was almost all of Chloe’s favorite foods. Her tastes were identical to the original owner’s, so Sophia Quinn had prepared everything based on what Chloe enjoyed on her previous visits.
"Chloe, sit down, quickly. Look at you, after some time at Southbend University, Grandma thinks you’ve gotten thinner."
Chloe was a little shocked to hear Miss Prescott’s words. ’Have I gotten thinner?’
’I don’t think so. I’ve been eating really well. If it weren’t for the system giving me a body that can eat without getting fat, I’d probably be as big as a pig by now.’
"That’s right, Chloe. Auntie thinks you’ve gotten thinner too. No matter what, you have to eat more today and build yourself back up." As Sophia Quinn spoke, she started piling food onto Chloe’s plate.
Miss Prescott did the same, and soon, Chloe’s bowl was overflowing with food.
"Grandma, Auntie, you two should eat too."
Seeing the two of them relentlessly putting food on her plate, Chloe offered a gentle reminder.
"Yes, yes, we’ll eat too. Let’s all eat."
Chloe picked up her chopsticks, chose a piece of bamboo shoot, and put it in her mouth. It was delicious.
Looking at the smiles on Miss Prescott’s and Sophia Quinn’s faces, Chloe decided not to bring up the matter of breaking the engagement at the dining table. ’I’ll bring it up after we finish eating.’
Throughout the meal, Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn would periodically place more food on Chloe’s plate, treating her just like a small child.
After the meal, Chloe was stuffed to the brim. She followed Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn to the living room.
Sophia Quinn asked about Chloe’s life at school. "Chloe, is the food at school to your liking? Is anyone bullying you? If you’ve been wronged in any way, just say the word. Auntie will back you up."
"Auntie, the food at school is actually quite good, and how could anyone possibly bully me?"
"It’s good that no one is bullying you. But didn’t I hear that Brooke York also went to your university? As for their claim that the teacher made a mistake with the scores, I don’t believe a word of it. In my opinion, it must have been that couple from the York Family who pulled strings to get Brooke in."
"Speaking of which, they have some nerve. She got a zero on the exam, and they still managed to get her in. Is that fair to the students who studied hard for the test?"
Sophia Quinn was clearly being protective, and of course, she was protecting Chloe.
It was a classic case of "rules for thee, but not for me."
When Miles York and the others had pulled strings to get Chloe into high school, Sophia had been absolutely thrilled, supporting it with both hands and feet. But now that it was Brooke York, she was full of disdain.
Chloe could also feel Sophia Quinn’s favoritism toward her—or rather, toward the original owner.
Speaking of which, the one truly lucky thing that happened to the original owner was meeting an auntie as wonderful as Sophia Quinn.
Miss Prescott gently patted the back of her hand. "Chloe, don’t just focus on your studies; you have to take care of yourself too. The weather is getting cooler, so remember to wear more layers and don’t catch a cold."
Miss Prescott couldn’t help but nag a little. She just felt that Chloe was too thin. Such a slender girl needed to wear more clothes; otherwise, she’d easily catch a cold if the weather suddenly turned or the seasons changed.
"I know, Grandma!"
"Oh, right." Sophia Quinn’s eyes were full of concern. "Tell Auntie, what’s new at the university? Have you made any friends?"
The two women flanked Chloe, one on each side, their every word a genuine expression of care as they asked about her life at school.
At that moment, they were like her real family, kind elders listening to a junior member talk about her school life and learn about how she was doing.
After chatting with them for a while, Chloe decided it was time to get to the point and state the purpose of her visit.
"Grandma, Auntie, I actually came to see you today because I want to call off the engagement between me and Ethan Prescott. We’re both adults now, and it’s possible that he—or I—might meet someone we like. We’d want to date them, and this engagement would just get in the way."
"Alright, Chloe. Auntie agrees. I’ll keep my word. I definitely won’t force you. I’d never insist on you becoming my daughter-in-law; that’s out of the question. We just need to find a time to officially dissolve the marriage contract, and that will be that!"
"Thank you, Grandma. Thank you, Auntie." Chloe was quite touched that they had agreed so easily.
To be honest, she had been afraid that Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn would refuse, that because they were so fond of her, they might try to persuade her to go through with it.
Thankfully, they respected her wishes.
"Why are you thanking your grandma and auntie again? I told you, you’re my goddaughter! Or... are you saying you don’t want to be Auntie’s goddaughter?" Sophia Quinn feigned anger. She didn’t like hearing Chloe thank them; it made her feel like they were still being treated as outsiders.
"I’m willing! Of course I’m willing to be Auntie’s goddaughter."
"Then it’s settled. From this day forward, you are my goddaughter. Auntie will find a time to arrange a gathering, invite The Yorks, and we’ll cancel the engagement and formally recognize you as my goddaughter."
"Okay!"
Miss Prescott and Sophia Quinn wanted to ask Chloe to stay the night, but then they remembered she wasn’t formally their goddaughter yet, and they hadn’t prepared a room for her.
They would have to wait until Chloe truly became a part of the Prescott Family. Then, they would prepare a new, larger room for her—a room befitting a daughter of the Prescott Family. Having her move in then would be the greatest sign of respect.
"Mom, I don’t agree. I will not break off the engagement with Chloe."
Ethan Prescott couldn’t believe it. He had simply chosen not to come home, and the next thing he knew, he was getting a call from Sophia Quinn informing him that his own mother and grandmother had already made this decision for him.
