Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 220: The Person Whose College Spot Was Stolen

  • Next Chapter

“Brooke York, give me a million.” The girl held out her hand, expecting Brooke to hand over the money as if it were her absolute right.

“Why should I give you money?” Brooke was baffled. Where on earth did this person come from, asking her for money out of the blue?

She wondered why this novel world, where she was the female lead, was so abnormal. How could a supporting character just boldly demand money from the main character like this?

“Playing dumb, are we, Brooke York? You’re the one who stole my university admission spot. Shouldn’t you pay me? Aren’t you afraid I’ll leak the truth?” The girl had found out that the York family was currently raking in money. Did they really think a mere million could permanently buy her university spot? Were they trying to dismiss her like a beggar?

Hearing this, Brooke’s expression changed. “You’re Sophie Lane?”

She at least knew the name of the person she had replaced.

When she had first heard the name Sophie Lane, she had been a bit worried. After all, the name was completely different from hers. At the very least, they should have found someone with a similar name!

But at the time, Miles York had told her that only this Sophie Lane was willing to make the exchange; no one else would agree. Left with no other choice, she could only take her spot.

“That’s right, it’s me! I didn’t even know your family was so wealthy. Since you’re that rich, just giving me a million doesn’t really cut it, does it? That’s a university spot! A degree is incredibly valuable and guarantees a good job after graduation. So, your one million is a bit too little!”

Sophie had originally assumed they were just mildly well-off parents hoping their daughter would succeed. She had figured they were an uneducated family trying to buy a bit of culture with their spare cash.

She never expected them to be running a company—and one connected to the prestigious Prescott family at that! In that case, a million was nowhere near enough! What she had given up was a university admission spot, one she had painstakingly earned through her own hard work.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Brooke decided to play dumb. Wanting nothing to do with Sophie, she turned to leave. After all, they were on campus, and students could walk by at any moment. If anyone overheard this conversation, she would be ruined.

Suddenly, someone grabbed her hand. Sophie’s questioning voice rang out. “What’s that supposed to mean? Trying to pretend you don’t know me? Trying to deny it?”

“What do you mean, ‘what’s that supposed to mean’? I mean I don’t understand what you’re talking about, got it? Let go!” Brooke tried to shake Sophie off.

But Sophie’s grip was tight, completely preventing Brooke from pulling her hand away.

Sophie sneered. “You don’t understand? What, are you going to deny it to the death? Let me tell you, I’ll start shouting right here. I’ll let everyone know that you scored zero in every single subject and only got into this university by stealing my spot. Just imagine how interesting it will be to see the looks on everyone’s faces once I shout that out!”

“You…” Brooke certainly didn’t want Sophie shouting right there. If she did, the scandal of her stealing a university spot would undoubtedly be exposed. “Let’s go find a place to sit down outside and talk.”

“Why should we go outside? Let’s just talk right here.”

Sophie had no desire to leave. She hadn’t even had the chance to properly soak in the university atmosphere yet! It had to be said, just stepping into this university gave off an entirely different vibe! It felt incredibly comfortable.

“What good does talking here do for you? If any students overhear our conversation and find out I’m an imposter, let me tell you, you will absolutely get nothing out of me.”

Hearing this, Sophie hesitated. Brooke had a point. But if she followed her off-campus, would Brooke just change her mind again?

“Do you really not believe me? The fact that you came looking for me means you already know my family’s background. What, are you afraid I’ll run away?”

“Of course not. Fine, let’s go find a place outside to talk.”

Brooke led Sophie to a bubble tea shop. They each ordered a cup, and Brooke footed the bill.

“You want a million?”

“That’s right!” Sophie nodded.

“How much did my dad give you before?” Brooke knew Miles York had paid her off, but she wasn’t sure of the exact amount.

“A million!”

“Then why didn’t you go back to my dad for more? Why come looking for me?” Brooke’s voice carried obvious resentment. Since it was her dad who had given her a million in the first place to buy the admission spot, why was she bothering her instead of going straight to him? Why bring this kind of headache to her? Couldn’t she just go find the person she was actually supposed to deal with?

Sophie took a sip of her bubble tea. “Because I wanted to come see the school, too. After all, I was the one who was almost going to attend. Shouldn’t I at least see what the campus looks like? Besides, I’ve already taken a million from your dad; it’s only right that I ask you next. You’re the one attending my university, not your dad!”

Her words nearly made Brooke choke on her bubble tea in sheer anger. Yet, infuriatingly, the girl wasn’t wrong. Brooke was indeed the one attending school in her place, not her father.

“If you want me to give you a million right now, I can’t do it.” Brooke told Sophie point-blank that she didn’t have that kind of money on hand.

Asking for a million was pure extortion. She didn’t even have a hundred thousand right now, let alone a million. Did these people really think that every rich heiress was rolling in cash? Come to think of it, she didn’t know if her situation as an heiress was just uniquely frustrating, but her monthly allowance was only a measly ten thousand.

“You can’t? Are you joking? You’re the true heiress of the York family, and you can’t cough up a million? If you told me that fake heiress, Chloe York, couldn’t afford it, I wouldn’t believe it—and you’re telling me you, the real heiress, can’t either?” Sophie clearly didn’t buy it.

“You said it yourself—I’m the true heiress who just recently returned. They don’t dote on me. After all, we didn’t grow up together, and they have no emotional attachment to me. How could they possibly just hand me that kind of money?” Brooke’s tone sounded somewhat pitiful.

Brooke genuinely wasn’t faking it. She really didn’t have much money on her. Chloe York had swindled her out of most of it, and all she had left was the ten thousand Alice Cole had just given her for allowance.

“You must be kidding. You’re their biological daughter! After suffering so many grievances, they should have given you a massive amount in compensation. Let me tell you, you don’t need to play the victim with me. I just want a million. Once I have it in my hands, I’ll—” Sophie raised a hand and made a zipping motion over her lips.

The implication was clear: as long as she got the million, she would keep her mouth firmly shut and absolutely wouldn’t breathe a word to anyone.

“Then you really have to give me some time to scrape the money together,” Brooke proposed.

“You seriously don’t have it right now?” Sophie was still a little skeptical.

“I really don’t. Whether you push me right now or go out there and shout to everyone that I’m an imposter who stole your university spot, I still won’t be able to pull out a million to stop you. Because I genuinely don’t have the money. I need time to gather it.

“Besides, you know better than anyone that I’m the last person who wants this exposed. So, you don’t have to worry about me tricking you. I will find a way to get the money for you.”
