Chapter 1691: Chapter 41: Maid's Notebook

  • Next Chapter

Within Tianchen Courtyard, Lei Yaz reunited with his mother and recounted the events that had transpired over this period.

Lei Yaz had many questions in his heart, which he dared not share with others—but the person was his mother, and he had no reservations.

“…Mother, what’s the truth about father’s situation? Did he really do that to me back then?” Lei Yaz hesitated to finish his sentence.

Kaia listened calmly throughout.

Only now did she reach out to stroke Lei Yaz’s face, “I’ll find a way to investigate the truth from back then… Lei Yaz, until then, you just need to take good care of yourself.”

“But… I’ve inexplicably become a prince of the Undersea City now!” Lei Yaz stood up excitedly.

Kaia looked at him and gestured for calmness.

She placed her hands on Lei Yaz’s shoulders and softly said, “Lei Yaz, do you remember the last message I left you?”

Lei Yaz nodded instinctively, “You said you couldn’t answer calls conveniently at the camp recently, and you would find a way regarding father’s situation.”

Kaia shook her head, “I asked you to take care of yourself.”

“Mother?”

Kaia said seriously, “Listen, Lei Yaz, only when you take care of yourself can I be at ease. Since the Emperor intends for you to be the heir, you must seize this identity… Whatever he wants you to learn, strive to learn it, whether it’s knowledge or skills. Don’t find them tedious and lose interest, because eventually, you will need them.”

“That big brother… also said something similar,” Lei Yaz said instinctively.

“Is it the two who live here with you?” Kaia asked thoughtfully.

Lei Yaz nodded.

Kaia then took a deep breath and said, “Alright, Lei Yaz, the time Emperor permitted for me to see you is over… You know, I’m a soldier of the Undersea City, I cannot leave my post at will… This is the duty of an adult.”

“I understand.” Lei Yaz nodded seriously.

“Remember what I’ve said.” Kaia finally gave Lei Yaz a gentle hug, “You must take care of yourself to ease my mind.”

“Mother!” Lei Yaz suddenly said, “Do you think I can request from the Emperor that father meets you? I feel the Emperor might agree.”

“I’ve already seen your father.” Kaia did not meet Lei Yaz’s gaze, “But right now, he can’t come to see you… And you mustn’t ask about your father.”

“Why is that!”

“He has more important matters to attend to at this time,” Kaia slowly said. “He can’t be distracted… Lei Yaz, do you not trust me?”

Lei Yaz could only shake his head, yet doubt lingered in his heart… But eventually, he chose to trust and buried his doubt.

“Remember, remember what I just said, remember to take care of yourself, learn whatever the palace teaches you.” Kaia instructed, “Imagine yourself as a sponge, absorbing the nutrients given to you as much as possible.”

“Alright!” Lei Yaz nodded, then asked, “Mother, when can I see you again?”

“I’ll come find you.”

…

The reunion between mother and son did not last long… Soon, Kaia and Lei Yaz left the room where they had met alone and appeared before the courtyard’s hall.

Emperor and Boss Luo were leisurely enjoying the maid’s brewed tea—of course, this included Professor Jin Kailun and the young man Konghai, though the professor seemed a bit distracted.

The Girl Liuge was also not present… She hadn’t been seen since leaving the library.

“Your Majesty.” Kaia, leading Lei Yaz, first paid respects before Louis XXXIX.

Lei Yaz had to mimic his mother’s actions—frankly, this was his first time using such formal etiquette in front of the Emperor of the Undersea City.

“I hope this meeting has eased your mind.” The Emperor smiled slightly, “Lady Kaia, if you’d like, you can visit Lei Yaz here at any time.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Kaia responded calmly, “But as a soldier of the Undersea City, I cannot leave my post freely.”

“I’m glad the military has a responsible soldier like Lady Kaia.” The Emperor smiled broadly and then gestured to Professor Jin Kailun, “This gentleman is one of the most renowned scholars in the Undersea City and has been teaching Lei Yaz lately. Lady Kaia, the professor wishes to have a brief chat with you.”

Professor Jin Kailun’s gaze instantly focused on Kaia.

“No need.” Kaia said indifferently, “I’ve heard of Professor Jin Kailun’s name, receiving lectures from the professor is Lei Yaz’s good fortune… As a mother, I don’t have much to say, Lei Yaz is entrusted to the professor, although he is mischievous, his nature is good.”

Professor Jin Kailun nodded imperceptibly, “Rest assured, Lady Kaia… I will do my utmost.”

“Then, Your Majesty, I request permission to return to the camp.” Kaia gave a military salute before the Emperor.

“Go ahead.” The Emperor waved with a smile.

Professor Jin Kailun suddenly said, “Your Majesty, this afternoon, Lord Liuge’s lesson takes place, so I will also leave now to prepare tomorrow’s teaching material.”

“Please go ahead, Professor.” The Emperor granted permission as well.

Soon, the living room felt emptier… However, having just met his mother, Lei Yaz now looked considerably more spirited.

“I’ll have lunch here.” The Emperor smiled, “There are more people, it’s livelier.”

The maid did not speak, just nodded and left her seat, heading to the kitchen… These days, all the meals at the Tianchen Courtyard have been handled by the maid; the palace servants have not been involved.

Seizing this pause, Lei Yaz faced Louis XXXIX, gritting his teeth and said, “Your Majesty, I agree with that woman’s morning training!”

The Emperor was indifferent, “Handle this matter yourself… To become a qualified Emperor, don’t you even have the courage for this?”

“Alright.” Lei Yaz looked helpless, then thought for a moment and said, “But about inheriting, I… I hope to reconsider this, and wish Your Majesty could think it through.”

“I’ve been considering it since you were born.” The Emperor smiled, “Letting you come here means I’ve decided… This matter shouldn’t be raised again.”

Lei Yaz opened his mouth reluctantly and could only use an excuse, “I’m a bit tired, I’ll rest upstairs… I’ll skip lunch but be back for the afternoon class.”

The Emperor did not concern himself with this and allowed Lei Yaz to go upstairs… Then he looked at Boss Luo and said, “There should be some time before lunch, would you like to accompany me in a round of chess? I noticed there’s a chessboard outside the hallway.”

Boss Luo agreed.

While resetting the chess pieces, the Emperor unexpectedly asked, “By the way, when did this Giant Energy Civilization appear? Was it before us?”

“In another era.”

“That’s not a useful answer.” The Emperor shook his head but did not pursue further… At this moment, the chessboard was set; the Emperor made the first move without hesitation.

…

…

Until he was almost out of the imperial palace, Professor Jin Kailun quickly caught up with Lady Kaia.

“Lady Kaia, please wait.” Professor Jin Kailun called softly, “How did you come to the imperial palace, Lady?”

“Of course, it was due to the Emperor’s summons,” Lady Kaia said expressionlessly. “Professor, is there anything else?”

A hint of doubt flashed in Professor Jin Kailun’s eyes, and then he shook his head.

Kaia then directly boarded the specialized Flywheel provided by the imperial palace… without a moment’s pause—seeing this Flywheel gradually leaving, Professor Jin Kailun frowned even more deeply.

“What exactly happened?” The young Mr. Konghai approached, asking softly.

“We’ll talk about it when we return.”

Throughout the way, Professor Jin Kailun returned to his residence peacefully… The guards escorting him back from the palace had already left.

After entering the gate, as usual, the professor watered the garden, read a book for a while, then took a nap… he woke up around four in the afternoon, then continued working in the study.

After having dinner together with Mr. Konghai, he and Mr. Konghai took a walk on the street as usual—until nine o’clock at night, when the professor met a friend at a teahouse and discussed academic issues.

At eleven o’clock at night, he went home to take a bath… As he was about to return to his room, he bumped into Mr. Konghai in the hallway and whispered a few words.

“The base was destroyed by the Gendarme Team, not sure how many escaped… Kaia should be real, not just someone randomly impersonating the Emperor.”

“She didn’t say anything to you.”

“Perhaps she is also being watched.” The professor quickly said: “Tomorrow, you don’t need to come with me to the imperial palace… check it out, be cautious.”

Mr. Konghai nodded, then took out a folded piece of paper, “A map, drawn over the past few days.”

Professor Jin Kailun returned to his room and spent a sleepless night.

…

…

Early the next morning, Professor Jin Kailun dressed neatly and then boarded the Flywheel sent to pick him up, entering the Tianchen Courtyard.

What puzzled the professor was that today’s Lei Yaz was unusually serious during class; intuition made the professor feel as if he had changed.

“Why haven’t I seen Mr. Konghai today?” Boss Luo asked curiously during the break.

“Oh, I sent him to find some materials for me, so he didn’t come today,” the professor replied casually.

Boss Luo then asked, “Professor, do you know of a scholar called [Liz] during the Limoria Era?”

Professor Jin Kailun paused—he certainly knew [Liz], as he had been working on compiling a biography of this renowned scholar from the Limoria Era.

“How did you know about [Liz]?”

Boss Luo smiled and said, “Yesterday, I saw one of his astronomy works in the library when I found it interesting, so I wanted to know more.”

Professor Jin Kailun thought for a moment and said, “[Liz], a philosopher and astronomer from the Limoria Era, and one of the last seven great sages before the Undersea City submerged during the Limoria Civilization period… what specifically do you want to know?”

“In this book,” Boss Luo held up the book borrowed from the library by the servant girl yesterday, opened it to a page, and said slowly, “it mentions a place called the Land of Life Reincarnation, the end of death. Do you know about this [Land of Life Reincarnation]?”

Professor Jin Kailun took the book, swiftly flipping through the pages, then fell into contemplation; after a while, he spoke, “Based on my research over the years, after this book was published, it caused a significant stir at that time. Especially the matter about this [Land of Death’s End], even attracting government attention and sending people to explore.”

“Was there a conclusion? There’s not much explanation in this book.”

The professor shook his head and said, “No, I currently can’t find any information regarding the expedition. The royal library houses the essence of the previous era—the truly valuable knowledge. Since there’s no record about this so-called [Land of Life Reincarnation, end of death], it’s evident the government at that time considered it unimportant. Why are you interested in this matter?”

Boss Luo smiled slightly and said, “Just think it’s interesting.”

“Interesting?”

Boss Luo said, “If life could reincarnate… would you want to do something when given another chance, Professor?”

Professor Jin Kailun opened his mouth instantly, planning to say something — but when the words were just at the tip of his tongue, he found that he hadn’t really thought about what he wanted to do.

“I’ve never thought about this question.” Professor Jin Kailun couldn’t help but shake his head, “Moreover, if life really could start over, the Limoria Civilization might not have ended up extinct. It would have surely prohibited the magical energy from eroding the People of Limoria’s bodies before the onset of the Magical Energy Era, and naturally, there wouldn’t be the Undersea City now, nor would there be you and me here discussing this issue, right?”

“That’s indeed the case,” Boss Luo nodded, then put the book away… coincidentally, the break time was over.

Just then, Lei Yaz returned with a pile of books in hand; Professor Jin Kailun glanced and noticed these books mostly covered the human body structure, basic movements, and fighting techniques.

“Why are you reading these books?”

Lei Yaz said irritably, “Of course, to give Liuge a good beating!”

Oh, it seems this kid’s bandages have an additional layer today.

Professor Jin Kailun shook his head and directly confiscated Lei Yaz’s miscellaneous books.

Then he looked at Boss Luo and said, “In the library, there are quite a few books about the great sage [Liz]; if you’re interested, go find and read them… though don’t have high expectations. This great sage made many irreplaceable contributions to the Limoria Civilization, but toward the end of his life, most of his theories were unfounded and pure fantasy.”

“Since it’s fantasy, why is the professor still researching this great sage’s deeds?”

“I’ve said that fantasy only occurred in the later years of the great sage [Liz]; in the first half of his life, he made many contributions, even influencing governmental decisions at that time, certainly worth researching.” Professor Jin Kailun said irritably, “Furthermore, we historians can’t deny a person’s entire legacy just because of mistakes in their history, can we? Aren’t you afraid of limiting your paths by asking this way?”

“That’s indeed true,” Boss Luo casually smiled and shrugged.

Professor Jin Kailun suddenly frowned and pulled out a book from his brought collection, tossing it in front of Boss Luo, “Young man, be pragmatic, and don’t aim too high… Learn some basics. You should get familiar with this general history of the Undersea City before delving into the Limoria Era!”

The nearby servant girl suddenly picked up a pen and started writing something in her notebook.

Perhaps she was thinking like this.

If one day this professor also [fortunately] becomes a guest, then this little notebook would come in handy… perhaps.
