Chapter 345: The Law Had Six Rows and the Claimant Wanted One

  • Next Chapter

Six legal slats lay across the floor, each separated by the width of Jiang’s foot.

The first carried the April15 royal letter. The second carried the October8 Sudavik tribunal. The third held the source-language classification applied to eighteen men. The fourth represented the invoked `Jonsbok` rule. The fifth held Ari’s later enforcement summons. The sixth carried the separate January26,1616 Myrar proceeding.

Conti placed the modern legal index on a seventh rail above them.

"That rail stays removable," Jiang said.

He tested each gap with one emperor foot, then used his beak to push the royal-letter slat farther from the tribunal. His body lacked hands, but the broad feet and low center made accidental merging harder than it would have been for a kneeling human.

"You have become an archival doorstop," Hessa said.

"Evolution finds a purpose for everyone."

Aylin stood beside the exterior stop without holding it. Her own white-seal writ had changed labels after issuance while its enforcement survived. That experience made her useful for noticing record inflation and dangerous as a substitute interpreter of another world’s law.

"I can identify when one row borrows authority from another," she said. "I cannot tell you what their law meant."

Conti entered both limits.

The board opened in exterior mode. Jiang remained fully awake in his current body. Memory Dive entry stayed0, and Hessa retained the only closure control.

The royal-letter row displayed a source date and a modern summary of prohibited trade, communication, and whaling, along with authorized seizure and violent enforcement. The exact royal wording remained closed.

[ROW1:ROYAL LETTER]

[Date:1615-04-15]

[Modern content summary1]

[Verified verbatim text0]

[Royal voice0]

[Named eighteen men0]

The Sudavik row displayed October8, a twelve-man tribunal, and a judgment concerning eighteen men associated with Aedey. It did not inherit every person addressed by the royal letter.

[ROW2:SUDAVIK TRIBUNAL]

[Date:1615-10-08]

[Tribunal members counted12]

[Men addressed18]

[Individual evidence rows0/18]

[Universal survivor ruling0]

The classification slat kept `rettdraepa obotamenn` in its source-language field. Conti blocked the system’s first attempt to render that phrase as a complete modern criminal status.

[ROW3:SOURCE CLASSIFICATION]

[Persons addressed18]

[Source term retained1]

[Modern equivalence0]

[Citizenship finding0 | combatant finding0]

[Soul status0]

"A translation can be accurate and still arrive with the wrong courtroom attached," Conti said.

Jiang pressed the classification slat away from the modern index. "Then it keeps its own floor."

The fourth row identified `Jonsbok`, adopted in1281 and used across later centuries, plus the thieves or robbery provision cited by modern historical summaries. Its direct1615 application remained a tribunal claim rather than a system judgment.

[ROW4:JONSBOK]

[Lawbook adoption1281]

[Printed edition1578]

[Use during1615 supported1]

[Rule invoked:theft or robbery provision]

[Exact procedural application0]

[Per-person finding0]

The fifth slat began only after the October judgment. It contained Ari’s call for armed participation, threatened fines for refusal, and a later assembly count of roughly fifty by October10.

[ROW5:ENFORCEMENT]

[After Sudavik judgment1]

[Armed summons1 | threatened fines1]

[Assembled force:approximately50]

[Tribunal members automatically same0]

[Men judged automatically same0]

The sixth row remained in1616. It carried the January26 Myrar proceeding concerning roughly fifty whalers at Patreksfjordur. Weather later prevented the planned expedition from reaching them.

[ROW6:MYRAR PROCEEDING]

[Date:1616-01-26]

[Group:approximately50]

[Separate judgment1]

[Same eighteen0]

[Enforcement reached group0]

All six rows stayed apart. Passive Abyss distinction found pressure0 on the royal letter, tribunal, classification, lawbook, summons, and second proceeding.

[HISTORICAL LEGAL SCAN]

Hessa opened the modern index rail.

One nonphysical pressure track appeared at once. It entered through the collection path identified in the prior comparison and moved above the six rows without touching them.

[MODERN INDEX OPEN]

[Claimant index route1]

[Pressure tracks0->1]

[Historical row crossings0/6]

[Physical source changes0]

The claimant displayed its earlier promise.

[JUDGMENT AVAILABLE]

The modern index pulled `royal letter`, `tribunal`, `classification`, `lawbook`, `summons`, and `second judgment` into a proposed merged heading: STANDING KILL ORDER.

Jiang planted his feet across the gaps. His left foot held the letter apart from the tribunal. His right held the classification away from `Jonsbok`. He lowered his breast behind the enforcement slat and stopped it before it touched the Myrar row.

The pressure track knocked above the classification field. ORIGINAL JIANG appeared beside the eighteen-person count.

There was no Jiang in any legal source row.

Aylin leaned close enough to read without crossing the stop line. "It is doing what happened to my writ. A later label is trying to pretend it was always in the first order."

"Pattern compatibility," Conti said. "Not shared author, law, or source."

"I know." Her answer came sharper than necessary. She looked at the white-seal copy in its separate evidence sleeve. "Record the compatibility and none of the authority."

Conti recorded exactly that limit.

[CROSS-WORLD RECORD PATTERN]

[Later-label expansion compatibility1]

[Same issuer0 | same law0 | same mechanism0]

[Authority transfer0]

[Aylin writ effect0]

The claimant tried a second merge. It joined the April letter directly to the January judgment and skipped the October tribunal, classification, lawbook row, and enforcement summons.

Jiang hooked the January slat with his beak and dragged it back to the sixth position. The movement scraped the floor but left both packet seals untouched.

"Two dates do not become one command because you dislike the middle," he said.

Hessa recorded row order restored6/6. The pressure track remained above the modern index and entered no historical lane.

Conti withdrew the `Jonsbok` slat while the modern rail stayed open. The claimant lost the lawbook label but kept both its pressure and proposed standing-order heading. Legal-rule attachment remained0.

He withdrew the April royal-letter slat next. The claimant lost the earliest authority label and kept moving above the remaining rows.

[AUTHORITY WITHDRAWAL TEST]

[Royal-letter row1->0]

[Pressure track retained1]

[Claimant route retained1]

[Historical legal attachment0]

[Standing authority gained0]

"It does not need the law," Aylin said. "It needs the headings."

Conti restored both slats to their sealed positions. "Under this configuration, yes. We have not tested every index or every legal source."

Jiang shifted his left foot from the restored royal letter to the modern rail. The track followed the rail’s heading and ignored the returned authority rows.

[ROUTE CONFIRMATION]

[Historical rows restored6/6]

[Track follows modern heading1]

[Track follows royal authority0]

Conti closed the modern rail.

The pressure track disappeared. The proposed standing order and inserted Jiang label vanished with it. All six legal slats remained visible and separate.

[Historical rows retained6/6]

[Inserted person retained0]

[Merged judgment retained0]

Hessa used the exterior stop. Conti verified packet order, mass, source labels, and slat positions7/7. Historical changes, imported text, imported pressure, current-body effects, and legal effects remained0.

[LEGAL AUDIT RESULT]

The candidate ability replaced `JUDGMENT AVAILABLE` with a colder instruction.
