Chapter 515: It’s Too Cold, Let’s Warm Up
"Thank you," Rose Shaw said softly.
"Are you thanking me for saving you, or for this bowl of porridge?"
Rose Shaw was suddenly speechless. Her gaze fell on Keith Coleman’s gauze-wrapped hand.
"Your hand..."
"It’s nothing. Just a dislocation. They’ve already popped it back in. This is just to keep it stable." Keith Coleman moved it a little to show Rose Shaw.
Suddenly, he stepped forward, took Rose Shaw’s hand, and said solemnly, "I don’t care who you’re still in love with. I’m never letting go of your hand again. Not ever!"
Rose Shaw looked up, staring blankly at Keith Coleman.
"If you owe Christopher Sterling your life, then now you owe me your life, too. That puts him and me on equal footing, and I’m confident I can win your heart back."
"Keith Coleman..."
"Have some porridge." Keith Coleman opened the container and handed the spoon to Rose Shaw.
"I can do it myself." Rose Shaw reached for the bowl, but Keith Coleman stopped her.
"It’s a little hot. I’ll hold it."
Rose Shaw lowered her head and quietly ate the porridge.
She only managed a few bites before losing her appetite.
"If you don’t want to eat anymore, that’s fine. I’ll go buy you something else when you’re hungry." Keith Coleman lowered the head of the bed and helped Rose Shaw lie down.
Rose Shaw turned her head to the side and saw Keith Coleman holding the porridge she hadn’t finished, wolfing it down.
"You haven’t eaten yet, have you?"
"I haven’t."
"Those are my leftovers. You should go buy something for yourself."
"I’ll just make do with this for now. When you’re all better, you can treat me to a big meal."
Since Keith Coleman didn’t seem to mind, she knew protesting further would just seem overly dramatic.
After Keith Coleman finished the porridge and washed up, he came back and stood by the bed.
"Asleep?"
Rose Shaw remained silent, feigning sleep.
She was exhausted, body and soul.
Suddenly, Keith Coleman lifted the covers and sat on the edge of the bed.
"What are you doing?"
"It’s freezing. Just getting warm."
Rose Shaw immediately reached out and gave Keith Coleman a push. "This is a hospital bed! It’s cramped!"
"It won’t be if we hold each other! You’re in this state; what do you think I could possibly do? Look at you. You’ve been lying here all this time, but the bed’s still cold, and you’re freezing."
"Keith Coleman!"
"Shh, the nurse will come over if she hears you."
Keith Coleman lay down beside her. "Careful with the IV line." He gently maneuvered the tube.
"You just rest. You’ve probably got two more bags to go, which will take until morning."
"Mm-hmm." Rose Shaw nodded and stopped struggling.
The warmth radiating from Keith Coleman’s body was incredibly comforting. She realized that, on her own, she hadn’t been able to warm the blankets at all; her hands and feet had remained ice-cold.
The warmth he offered brought a sliver of solace to her weary heart, and she gradually drifted into dreamland.
...
Melody Monroe and Evan Fairchild took the earliest flight back to Rockwellburg and went straight to the hospital.
Keith Coleman was already up. He had bought breakfast, and after Rose Shaw ate, she had fallen into a deep sleep again. He was keeping watch by her bedside.
Pushing open the door to the room, Melody Monroe saw Keith Coleman watching over the bed and Rose Shaw sleeping soundly.
"Melody, what are you doing here?"
"I was worried about Rose. Has she not woken up yet? Is she still unconscious?"
"No, she woke up last night. She ate a little something this morning and went back to sleep."
Melody Monroe walked to the bedside to look at Rose Shaw. Rose Shaw’s color hadn’t fully returned; she looked pale and weak. ’I wonder what could have driven her to this point.’
"Melody, have a seat." Keith Coleman pulled a chair over for Melody Monroe.
