Christopher Sterling didn’t return to the hospital room that night. He only reappeared on the day of Lana Sheffield’s discharge to pick her up.

Because the baby was premature and had neonatal jaundice, they had to remain in the hospital. Today, only Lana Sheffield was being discharged.

Mrs. Sheffield and Eileen Scott came to pick Lana Sheffield up.

Lana Sheffield walked out of the hospital room, supported by Eileen Scott.

Lana Sheffield had felt incredibly wronged these past few days. Christopher Sterling had left that night and hadn’t shown his face since! ’For a woman like Rose Shaw, he’d even ignore his own wife right after she gave birth!’

The baby had been sent to the neonatal ward and, being premature, needed to stay in an incubator for a while longer. Watching her child be taken away felt like her heart was being torn in two.

She lay in her hospital bed, unable to visit her baby in the neonatal ward. She spent every day in tears, sick with worry.

How she wished Christopher Sterling could be by her side, but he never showed up!

The moment she saw Christopher Sterling, her eyes welled up with tears.

"Sis, Rose Shaw left the company," Eileen Scott whispered in Lana Sheffield’s ear.

"Did your brother-in-law make her leave?"

"No, she left on her own."

Lana Sheffield’s anger, which had just started to subside, flared up again. "I refuse to believe the company can’t function without Rose Shaw!"

Once they were outside the hospital, they saw Jude Sheffield’s car parked waiting. On the other side was Christopher Sterling’s car.

Don’t you think I’m the one who should feel wronged? You were the one who saved her in the first place! If you hadn’t taken her in all those years, would she have the status she does today?!"

"This is between me and Rose Shaw."

"Between you and her? Have you forgotten you’re a married man? There can’t be *anything* between you and her!"

"Why did you investigate Rose Shaw?"

"Why shouldn’t I investigate her?"

Christopher Sterling didn’t respond, and the look he gave Lana Sheffield was utterly frigid.

Lana Sheffield suddenly spun around, stalked over to Jude Sheffield’s car, opened the door, and got in. "Mom, I want to go home!"

Mrs. Sheffield glanced at Christopher Sterling, hoping he would try to stop Lana, but he remained stony-faced and silent. She had no choice but to get into the car herself.

She only had one daughter; she didn’t want to see her suffer so much right after giving birth.

Christopher Sterling watched the car drive away, then turned and went back into the hospital, heading for the neonatal ward.

Through the glass, he gazed at his child in the incubator.

The baby slept soundly, its tiny fists clenched tight. ’So small.’

His gaze was full of tenderness.
