Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 527: Subdued
After so many years, one could almost call it devotion.
And he spent money on Aya Winters without batting an eye. Calling him an ATM was no exaggeration.
Mrs. Coleman had never discovered her husband’s relationship with Aya Winters.
She had been deceived by her husband’s act of loyalty. Years ago, Carl Coleman had only been able to build his business with the help of Mrs. Coleman’s family influence. His status today was largely thanks to the support of his wife’s family.
Moreover, on the surface, Carl Coleman would never dare to have a falling out with Mrs. Coleman’s family.
So, for all these years, he had cultivated the public image of a good husband and a good man.
When Mrs. Coleman found out, she nearly went mad with rage. But she was, after all, a lady of the Kensington Family, born and raised in Argent, and she refused to create such an ugly scene.
"I’m just worried that Miss Winters can’t afford this on her own," Mrs. Coleman added.
"You don’t need to worry about that. I can certainly afford it." Aya Winters pulled a card out and handed it to the sales associate. "Not just this one. I’ll take those others, too!"
’This Mrs. Coleman probably has no idea whose money I’m spending, does she?’
That earlier jibe had struck a nerve with Aya Winters.
Now, she watched the sales associate walk to the counter with her card, a hint of smugness in her eyes. She raised a hand to smooth her lustrous black hair, then lifted her gaze to glance at Mrs. Coleman.
’Never mind that Mrs. Coleman was old and faded now; even in her youth, she hadn’t been much to look at.’
’She just got lucky and was born into a powerful, wealthy family.’
’Too bad you can’t fix ugly.’
Mrs. Coleman saw the disdain in Aya Winters’s eyes and gave a cold smile.
The sales associate returned with the card and placed it in Aya Winters’s hand. "Miss Winters, here is your receipt, and here are the loose diamonds. What kind of jewelry would you like to have them made into?"
"I haven’t decided yet. There are so many diamonds." Aya Winters deliberately raised her hand, admiring the dazzling diamond ring on her finger, and asked Mrs. Coleman, "Mrs. Coleman, what kind of jewelry do you think would be best?"
"I’ve never been particularly interested in diamonds."
"Right. At your age, diamonds aren’t really suitable anyway. Emeralds and jade would be more fitting for someone of your status."
Mrs. Coleman didn’t get angry. Her gaze on Aya Winters was more like she was admiring an object.
"You really are very beautiful. No wonder men can’t control themselves."
Aya Winters’s expression stiffened. Although she dared to trade a few barbs with Mrs. Coleman, she still felt a pang of guilt and didn’t dare to confront her head-on.
’Especially since she felt that Mrs. Coleman might already know about her relationship with Carl Coleman.’
’But Mrs. Coleman probably doesn’t have any real proof, right?’
’Carl Coleman is so meticulous and discreet. Mrs. Coleman must only be suspicious.’
"Are you also here to choose diamonds, Mrs. Coleman?"
"Yes. They certainly are dazzling. It’s hard for any woman to resist the allure of diamonds." Mrs. Coleman looked at the counter in front of her and suddenly pointed to a ring. "What about this one?"
"Mrs. Coleman, you have... excellent taste. That’s a diamond of less than fifty points—basically just a scrap." Aya Winters adjusted her hair again and glanced impatiently at the sales associate.
"Why isn’t it packaged yet? I’m in a hurry."
"Miss Winters, it’s all ready." The sales associate handed a beautifully wrapped bag to Aya Winters.
Just as Aya Winters was walking out, several men in plain clothes suddenly approached her. One of them moved in and subdued her.
