Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year
Chapter 576: The Only Fear Was That She Wouldn’t Come
"We can wait here together, Mom. Mom, are you cold?"
Evan Fairchild walked over to Melody Monroe, took her hand, and blew on it to warm it up.
’From now on, I’m not giving my son any more chances to play the attentive one.’
Watching his father’s antics, Ian Monroe’s little face puffed up in a pout.
Evan Fairchild glanced at his son’s expression, then tucked Melody Monroe’s hand inside his shirt. "Why are your hands so cold? Keep them here and warm up."
Ian Monroe: ...
’So that’s what they mean by "like repels like."’
’He definitely couldn’t stand the sight of Mr. Fairchild for more than three seconds.’
’And he was sure the feeling was mutual.’
"Mom, let’s just go inside," Ian Monroe said, tugging on the corner of her shirt. "It’s warmer in the house."
Evan Fairchild swept Melody Monroe up into his arms and strode toward the house. "Ian Monroe, go do your homework. Your mother and I have important matters to discuss."
Melody Monroe: ...
’Important indeed.’
’She had kicked him out of bed this morning while rushing to catch a flight.’
’She figured it was payback time.’
Ian Monroe watched Evan Fairchild’s retreating back and muttered under his breath, ’Childish!’
...
The press conference was scheduled to be held in a large conference hall at a hotel in Jansburg. Many media outlets assumed that any reporters allowed inside must have been pre-screened.
They figured any outlet without a special arrangement would not be granted entry.
But upon arrival, they discovered they only needed to register at the entrance to receive an entry pass.
This procedure was a pleasant surprise for the media outlets that had originally thought they wouldn’t be able to get in to film and conduct interviews.
Yasmine Scott, accompanied by one other person, collected their entry passes and went inside.
Looking at the pass in her hand, the corner of her lip curled into a cold sneer.
’I wonder what kind of expression Melody Monroe will have when she sees me.’
’I really can’t wait.’
Eileen Scott had called her, and Wayne Payne’s people from Stellaris had contacted her as well.
’She felt it was better to confront the person directly rather than scheme behind their back.’
She was currently just an intern at a media company, and her assignment for the day had been to cover a different event.
But she had come here on her own.
Using her intern credentials, she had managed to get in.
Just as Yasmine Scott walked in, a staff member outside made a call to Keith Coleman.
"She’s here?"
"Yes, she is."
Evan Fairchild’s long, slender fingers tapped on the desk as he said lightly, "I was worried she wouldn’t show."
"President Fairchild, with your son’s identity now public, are you excited? Nervous?"
"It’s not me they’re exposing. Why would I be excited? Or nervous?"
"After your son, it’ll be your turn next."
"Are you implying there’s a line?"
"No, no, that’s not what I meant at all! My mistake!" Keith Coleman immediately apologized.
After hanging up, he stared at his phone, a puzzled look on his face.
’Can a person have a split personality as severe as President Fairchild’s?’
’The way he treats Melody versus how he treats the rest of them... it’s like he’s two completely different people.’
"What are you doing standing here spacing out?" Rose Shaw walked over and nudged Keith Coleman.
"I just got off the phone with President Fairchild."
"Yasmine Scott is here?"
"She’s already inside."
"What’s the plan? Can this situation really be resolved for good today?"
"Of course. You have to consider who’s personally pulling the strings behind the scenes."
Rose Shaw turned and headed for the main hall.
In a lounge adjacent to the main hall, Melody Monroe and Ian Monroe were resting.
Ian Monroe was wearing a formal suit today. Melody Monroe and Evan Fairchild were both already impeccably good-looking, but Ian seemed to have inherited the best features from both of them.
