Jasper Rockwell had already opened the door.

Shawn Fisher was holding a little girl, with Candy by his side.

Melody Monroe’s smile was a bit stiff. ’The little girl in Shawn Fisher’s arms must be his daughter, right?’

"What wind blew Master Fisher in? What a rare sight!" Jasper Rockwell clapped his hands at Sweetie. "Come on, let uncle hold you!"

Sweetie’s little mouth trembled, and her eyes instantly filled with tears.

"What the hell! Am I that scary? I’m a friendly-looking guy, okay?"

"WAAAH!" Sweetie couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out crying.

"Come, come, Sweetie, Mommy will hold you." Candy immediately took her daughter.

Shawn Fisher grabbed Jasper Rockwell, hauled him up, and threw him onto the sofa. "You stay right here and behave! Don’t show your face to my daughter again. If you make her cry one more time, I’ll kill you."

Jasper Rockwell pointed at himself, a look of confusion on his face.

’What did I do to deserve this?’

’Am I really that unlikable?’

Sweetie snuggled in her mother’s arms, tears still glistening in her beautiful eyes. Seeing such a pretty little doll, Melody Monroe felt a genuine fondness bloom in her heart.

’Sweetie didn’t appear much in the original novel, but she grew up to be a great beauty. I thought that after all the suffering, she might have been a good match for Ian, giving him a better ending.’

’But I never expected the author of the original novel to just kill Sweetie off like that!’

’When I read that part, I really couldn’t help but send some... choice words the original author’s way.’

"Melody, you remember me, right? We’ve met before."

"Where did you meet?" Shawn Fisher hated seeing scenes like this the most.

"Video calls count!" Candy shoved Sweetie into Shawn Fisher’s arms, her eyes shining as she looked at Melody Monroe. You can just imagine the excitement of a fangirl suddenly meeting her idol.

"Melody, I’m so sorry for showing up uninvited. I knew it was Ian’s birthday today, so I came over. I’ve wanted to meet you for a long time, but I was in the middle of exams. My coursework has been killing me."

"I couldn’t be happier that you came." Melody Monroe started to feel a certain fondness for Candy as well.

Because of the ending in the original novel, a part of her still held some reservations.

’If our two families get along well starting from now, will it prevent what happens later?’

’Sweetie and Ian have met more than ten years early. Now that they know each other, maybe they can develop some feelings? That way, when Ian’s fate intersects with the original female lead’s, it might be impossible for him to develop feelings for her, right?’

"Auntie Lana, please prepare some tea, snacks, and fruit," Melody Monroe immediately instructed.

"Of course, Madam. I’ll go prepare them right away. Honored guests, please make yourselves comfortable in the living room."

The group moved to the living room, where Jasper Rockwell was taking up a seat all by himself.

But as soon as Sweetie turned her head and saw Jasper Rockwell, her mouth trembled and she started crying again.

Ian Monroe picked up a pillow and used it to cover Jasper Rockwell’s face.

Sweetie immediately stopped crying, reached out her little hands, and made a grasping motion toward Ian Monroe.

Shawn Fisher’s expression instantly darkened.

That was the gesture his daughter made when she wanted to be held.

She’d gotten very clingy lately, not even letting the nanny hold her—only him and his wife.

Ian Monroe didn’t understand the gesture. He turned to grab a toy from behind him, walked over to Sweetie, and handed it to her.

But then, Sweetie grabbed Ian Monroe’s hand!

The scene stunned all the adults.

Jasper Rockwell pulled the pillow away. "Ian, you have to take responsibility now. You’ve already held hands."

Shawn Fisher shot him a glare.

Jasper Rockwell immediately shut his mouth.
