"It’s all right."

Lord Feng didn’t get a clear look at the woman’s face, but her voice was lovely. It was the soft, lilting dialect of the Wu region—gentle and sweet, like listening to a Suzhou ballad. Many girls in Tristone spoke just like that.

"I’m sorry."

Rosalind Green glanced up for a moment before quickly lowering her head again. She wasn’t used to speaking with unfamiliar men. With a slight bow, she turned to leave. She still needed to find her son and settle a score.

"Wait a moment."

Lord Feng grabbed Rosalind Green’s hand but, realizing his gaffe, quickly let go, afraid he had scared her. Seeing the alarm written all over her face, he felt he had been far too forward and hastily invented an excuse. "Excuse me, could you tell me where to go for hospital admissions?"

Rosalind Green relaxed. ’For a second there, I thought he was some kind of creep. I’m overthinking things.’ She gave a sheepish smile. "This is my first time at this hospital as well, so I’m not sure where that is."

"Thank you. I’ll ask someone else," Lord Feng said with a slight smile. "Judging by your accent, you must be a local, miss?" His courteous demeanor helped Rosalind Green lower her guard, but she kept her head bowed, not daring to look him in the eye.

"I am a local, but I’m hardly a ’miss’ anymore. My son is already over ten years old."

Rosalind Green found this amusing. ’How funny, calling me ’miss’ at my age,’ she thought. ’This man’s eyesight can’t be very good.’ She wasn’t in the mood to chat with him, anxious as she was to go settle things with Adrian Hawthorne. She just smiled at Lord Feng and said, "Well, goodbye then."

She turned and walked away quickly. Adrian Hawthorne was nowhere to be seen in the hallway, so Rosalind Green assumed he had gone down to the first floor to find Mrs. Green. She hurried down the stairs, completely unaware of the fervent gaze following her.

Lord Feng rubbed his chin, a goofy grin spreading across his face. ’That’s the second time I’ve seen her,’ he thought. ’This must be fate.’

’You can’t go against the will of heaven. I have to make her mine.’

’The fact that she’s married with a kid isn’t a problem. I’ll just kick the husband to the curb and get a son as a bonus. Perfect.’

Lord Feng glanced at the adjacent office, and a plan formed in his mind. He went in and said politely to Doctor Hughes, "Doctor, how is my wife doing? It’s not serious, is it?"

"And which one is your wife?" Doctor Hughes asked, baffled. He saw so many female patients every day; how the hell was he supposed to know which one belonged to this man?

"The one you just saw. The most beautiful one is my wife," Lord Feng said shamelessly.

Doctor Hughes understood immediately. He picked up a prescription slip from his desk and handed it to Lord Feng. "You’re just in time. Your wife forgot to take her prescription. She can’t get her medicine without it."

Lord Feng was secretly delighted. ’That was almost too easy.’ He took the prescription slip, trying to read the name written in the name field, but—

’What the hell is this chicken scratch? Is this supposed to be writing?’

Lord Feng gritted his teeth. ’What an unprofessional doctor,’ he fumed internally. ’This handwriting is so awful a ghost couldn’t read it.’ But he couldn’t ask what it said—that would blow his cover instantly.

"So, there’s nothing seriously wrong with my wife, is there?"

"There are no major issues," Doctor Hughes said in a kind voice. "She just isn’t sleeping well. Some medicine to calm her nerves should help. And you need to be more attentive and caring toward your wife on a daily basis. She’s emotionally delicate and needs meticulous care. Are you familiar with orchids?"

"I know them. Those flowers are quite valuable."

Lord Feng nodded. He’d once procured a ’Suguan Dinghe’ orchid for a big boss in Port Krol. Honestly, he never understood what was so special about the plant; to him, it looked like a clump of wheatgrass. But the boss loved it, calling it a peerless treasure. He had gone deep into the mountains to find a wild specimen, and after he brought it to Port Krol, several tycoons clamored for it. It was eventually snapped up by the owner of a jewelry house for a hundred thousand.
