"Will you be alright by yourself?" Phoebe Huxley asked.

Rosalind Green smiled. "I’ll be fine. What could happen in broad daylight?"

She followed the same road back toward the Lowe family’s home. It wasn’t far—Vessaria’s urban area was quite small back then, and you could walk from the east side to the west in about an hour.

Tang Xiaonan and Rory were playing in the yard with June Lowe keeping them company. Jim Thorne was so bored he couldn’t stop yawning. ’I really want to go out and play,’ he thought, ’but I have to watch my sister. Ugh.’

"Tang Xiaonan, Jim, it’s time to go home."

Rosalind Green’s gentle voice came from the gateway. Seeing that June’s mother wasn’t around, she decided not to go inside.

"Ms. Lowe, I’ll come play with you again next time!"

Tang Xiaonan clapped her hands clean and gave Rory a pat on the head. Jim Thorne had already run to the gate long ago. ’This place is no fun at all,’ he thought. ’I’d rather be in the fields catching loaches.’

"Goodbye, Tang Xiaonan. Goodbye, Jim," June Lowe said, a little sad to see them go. She had never had any friends before; Tang Xiaonan was the very first one she’d ever made.

Tang Xiaonan waved goodbye. Rosalind took her hand and gave June Lowe a gentle smile, a smile that bloomed like a gorgeous rose. Will, who was just coming out while chewing on a zongzi, was completely captivated. He was practically drooling.

’Could she be a goddess descended from the heavens?’

’How can a woman this beautiful exist in the world? Whoa... my legs have gone soft. I can’t even stand up straight.’

The sudden appearance of a strange man startled Rosalind for a moment. Like June’s mother, she wasn’t particularly fond of interacting with men.

"Aunt Green, this is Uncle Will," Tang Xiaonan said.

Rosalind smiled. "Hello. I’m Kenneth’s mother. Thank you so much for looking after him."

"Don’t mention it! That kid Adrian is quite capable. My boss praises him all the time." Will grinned until his eyes were just slits. ’Her voice is as beautiful as she is,’ he thought. ’It gives me tingles. God, I want to touch her!’

Will just couldn’t figure it out. With a wife this gorgeous at home, had that guy Ethan Hawthorne gotten his head slammed in a door? How could he go chasing after Bernice, a woman who was inferior to Rosalind in every conceivable way? Tsk tsk... It wasn’t that Bernice was ugly, but standing next to Rosalind, she looked as plain as a handmaiden. The difference was like night and day.

Rosalind relaxed considerably and said softly, "Is Mr. Yates in? I didn’t run into him this morning, and I was hoping to thank him in person."

"He is. The boss is sleeping. I’ll go get him." Will hurried off to wake Mr. Yates. He couldn’t let a beauty like her wait.

Inside the house, Mr. Yates was already awake. He had faintly heard Will talking to someone outside, so he called out, "Who’s looking for me?"

"Boss, it’s Adrian’s mom. She says she wants to thank you in person."

"What’s there to thank me for? This is business. No thanks are necessary."

Mr. Yates grumbled, running a hand through his hair. Still bleary-eyed, he hadn’t bothered with his overcoat, simply throwing on a sweater. He shuffled out in his slippers, potbelly first, looking completely relaxed.

When he reached the doorway, Mr. Yates’s eyes still hadn’t quite focused. His mind wasn’t sharp yet as he said casually, "You’re too kind. Kenneth is capable on his own."

"Even so, we’re very grateful for your support."

Rosalind kept her head slightly bowed, so she didn’t see Mr. Yates’s face clearly. But when he heard her voice, Mr. Yates froze. His eyes practically crossed as he stared, and he gripped Will’s hand so tightly he nearly crushed it. He had to force himself to stay calm. He couldn’t startle this beautiful woman.

’To search high and low and find nothing, only to have her appear by sheer luck!’ he thought. The beauty he had been desperately searching for was standing right in front of him. ’God is so damn good to me!’

"You’re Kenneth’s mother?" Mr. Yates asked calmly. Beside him, however, Will was biting his lip, his face contorted in agony, not daring to make a sound.

"Yes, Kenneth is my son."

Only then did Rosalind finally lift her head slightly. She didn’t recognize Mr. Yates, though. His voice sounded a little familiar, but she didn’t give it much thought.
