Triple X System
Chapter 428 - 12 Hours
Elara didn’t answer right away. She lowered her goblet, the sweet moon-nectar floating in faint, pale ripples as her small hands tightened around the crystal glass. The lighthearted warmth that had filled the Azure Haven just moments before seemed to evaporate into the damp air, leaving only the soft hum of the turquoise water.
She looked up at the sea queen, her golden eyes dimming into a cold, flat stare.
"Life choices," Elara said softly.
Just two words. No grand story, no defensive justification, and no trace of the cheerful, teasing girl who had been choking on her drink seconds prior.
Seraphina let out a long, light sigh, her silvery-blue hair shifting across her bare shoulder like liquid silk. "I see..."
The ambient light inside the room plummeted. The glowing turquoise tide-glass beneath their feet suddenly lost its warm radiance, shifting into a deep, bruised navy. A suffocating pressure settled over the hall as Seraphina’s violent aura seeped out—not in a roaring blast, but as a heavy, drowning weight that made the air feel as thick as liquid lead.
"Then your life choices are about to become a very real, very lethal danger to my home," Seraphina said, her voice dripping with pure, unadulterated malice. The soft, playful queen had vanished, replaced by an ancient sovereign whose kingdom was threatened by the political rot of the upper world. "The Clover Council does not forget a runaway candidate, Elara. And they certainly do not let their sacred spell-craft walk into the planetary core without sending their executioners to tear down whatever sanctuary hides you."
Elara didn’t flinch, though her pale knuckles turned white against her glass.
Kyle’s body went taut. He braced his arms against the coral couch, ready to force himself into the gap between them despite his screaming muscles.
Then, just as suddenly as the storm had gathered, the suffocating pressure dissolved.
Seraphina’s gaze drifted away from Elara, landing squarely on Kyle’s tense face. The cold malice vanished from her features in an instant, replaced by a soft, amused curve of her lips.
"Though..." Seraphina murmured, resting her chin comfortably on her hand once more, "you are extraordinarily lucky that you chose to run alongside him. You have managed to hide yourself inside his fate. By binding yourself to his circle—even if your arrogant little mind refuses to notice it yet—you have bought yourself protection that even the Clover Council will hesitate to break."
Elara blinked, her jaw dropping slightly as she looked between Seraphina and Kyle. "Wait... what?"
"What do you mean she’s part of it without knowing?" Kyle asked, his brow furrowing deeply. He looked over at Yua, who was staring at Seraphina with equal confusion, her crimson eyes narrowed in suspicion. "You keep talking in riddles, Seraphina. Elara is my friend and our spell-caster. That’s it."
"For now," Seraphina purred softly, giving him a knowing, lazy wink. "The threads of destiny do not lie, my king. But we shall leave the light-user’s complicated past for another day. My domain has survived worse than council executioners."
She turned her head slightly, her violet eyes shifting away from Elara to lock directly onto Yua’s pale, bandaged form.
"What piques my interest far more," Seraphina continued, her voice dropping into a thoughtful, serious register, "is the foreign energy sleeping inside our little vampire’s core. When she went into her violent frenzy earlier, it was not merely pureblood rage driving her blood magic. There is a secondary pulse woven into her soul—a dark, suffocating essence that carries the unmistakable scent of Lilith."
Kyle’s breath caught in his throat. He sat bolt upright on his couch, ignoring the sharp stab of pain in his chest as his dark eyes locked onto Seraphina.
"Lilith...?" Kyle rasped, his voice trembling slightly. "You know Lilith?"
Yua’s eyes widened as well, her hand instinctively pressing over her heart, where her blood core hummed weakly beneath her skin.
"Of course I know of her," Seraphina said smoothly, her silvery hair swirling in the water as she leaned back against her coral bench. "Lilith. The Demon of Lust. The second most powerful entity in the abyss, standing directly beneath Lucifer himself... and an old acquaintance of mine from the ancient wars."
She tilted her head, watching the sheer shock register on Kyle’s face.
"I know her mark, Kyle," Seraphina added, her eyes narrowing slightly as she studied his reaction. "And I know the tragedy of her fall. She was your first wife, was she not? The foundation of your original harem, before Lucifer dragged her into the dark core and scattered the rest of your inner circle across the realms."
"How... how do you know that?" Kyle asked, his chest heaving as memories of his past life and his stolen bond flashed through his mind. "I haven’t told anyone on Kraken about Lilith’s capture. Even Yua only knows fragments!"
Seraphina let out a light, musical chuckle, tapping two long, violet-scaled fingers silly against the corner of her temple.
"Have you already forgotten, my king?" she teased, her violet eyes shimmering with a bright, mystical radiance. "I told you. My sight is not limited to physical walls or current moments. What your eyes do with your shadow-gaze, mine do through the echoes of the planet. I see the ripples of what was, what is, and what will be."
Kyle stared at her in dead silence.
Beside him, Yua was quiet, her small hand reaching out across the space between their couches to lightly touch Kyle’s fingers. She could feel the sudden, heavy wave of grief and determination rolling off him at the mention of Lilith’s name.
Kyle closed his eyes for a brief moment, letting out a slow, steadying breath.
In the quiet privacy of his own thoughts, he analyzed what Seraphina had just revealed. Her spatial awareness and her version of foresight were staggering. It wasn’t absolute omnipotence—she had clearly stated earlier that altering the future carried a heavy cost on her core, which was why she hadn’t relied on it to beat him in their duel—but her raw perceptive authority was terrifying.
*She’s not at Lilith’s level,* Kyle calculated silently to himself, comparing the sea queen’s aura to the overwhelming, world-shaking memory of his first wife’s primal power. *Lilith’s strength was absolute, capable of bending entire domains to her will without casting a single spell. But Seraphina... even at her current stage, her power far surpasses mine, Yua’s, and Elara’s combined. If she had wanted us dead, we wouldn’t have survived the outer spring.*
"Stop thinking so hard, Kyle," Seraphina’s voice broke through his thoughts. She was watching him with a soft, affectionate smile, dipping her legs lazily into the warm, bioluminescent water. "Your brain is going to overheat, and we need you whole before you attempt the final descent to the core."
"I’m fine," Kyle said, opening his eyes and looking back at her. "Just trying to figure out how many more surprises you’re hiding under those scales."
"A queen must keep some secrets," Seraphina purred, stretching her long arms above her head once more, completely unbothered by the way her sheer silk dress shifted over her curves. "Otherwise, her king might grow bored."
"I am never going to get used to this," Elara groaned, burying her face in her hands as she slumped back onto her couch. "Can we please go back to fighting giant leeches? It was much less awkward."
Yua let out a quiet, tired snicker, her fingers tightening around Kyle’s hand. "For once, light-user... I actually agree with you."
Kyle looked at the three women resting around the turquoise pool—the exhausted vampire princess holding his hand, the reluctant light mage hiding her face, and the ancient sea queen watching him with possessive warmth.
The room fell into a quiet lull. The rhythmic lapping of the bioluminescent water against the turquoise glass floor sounded almost like a soothing lullaby, encouraging their sore muscles and depleted cores to finally sink into deep, restorative rest. For the first time since their violent escape from the upper ruins, the shadow of imminent death felt distant.
Yua closed her eyes, her deep, even breaths signifying that her blood core was entering a deep hibernation cycle to repair the micro-fractures in her soul matrix. Elara stretched out on her coral bench, pulling her plush cyan robe up over her shoulders, her wand resting safely against her side as she drifted into a light sleep.
Kyle lay his head back against the silk pillows, staring up at the luminescent blue kelp floating along the ceiling arches. The ache in his bones was slowly fading into a dull, manageable throb, thanks to the continuous flow of planetary mana coursing through the Azure Haven’s waters.
He closed his eyes, preparing to let his mind slide into sleep.
Suddenly, the warm, soothing hum of the turquoise water shifted pitch. The liquid starlight at the center of the pool vibrated violently, sending sharp, irregular ripples crashing against the edges of their resting couches.
Seraphina, who had been lounging lazily with an unbothered smirk, sat bolt upright.
Her long violet tail, which had split into her land-form legs, flickered back into a shimmering aquatic tail for a fraction of a second before stabilizing. Her silvery-blue hair fluttered around her shoulders as if caught in an invisible, underwater current, and the playful, sultry light in her deep violet eyes instantly vanished.
Kyle opened his eyes, his instincts instantly flaring back to life as he felt the sudden rise in atmospheric pressure. "Seraphina? What is it?"
Seraphina did not answer right away. She extended her right hand into the center of the pool, her fingers dipping into the liquid starlight. Her eyes closed, her forehead creasing in deep concentration as her high-frequency echolocation shot outward, bouncing off the spatial walls of the subterranean spring and reaching far up toward the surface world.
When her eyes snapped open again, they were glowing with a sharp, chilling brilliance.
She turned her head toward the resting group, her expression completely tensed, devoid of any teasing warmth or royal arrogance. The grave seriousness in her tone made even Elara stir from her light sleep, her golden eyes widening as she sensed the sudden shift in the air.
"Seraphina... what did you hear?" Elara asked, her voice trembling slightly as she sat up, clutching her robe.
Seraphina slowly pulled her hand out of the pool, droplets of glowing water falling from her delicate fingertips like liquid pearls.
"The ripples of the upper surface have turned dark," Seraphina stated, her voice echoing through the quiet arches of the Azure Haven with a grim, heavy authority. "The sky above the Wandering Spring is turning to ash. The temporal echoes are crystal clear now."
She turned her gaze directly toward Kyle, looking down at her newly bound king with a mixture of quiet sorrow and unyielding resolve.
"I hope you enjoyed your short nap, Kyle Conner," Seraphina said, her melodious voice carrying a sharp, ominous edge. "Because we have less than twelve hours until the Clover Council arrives at the boundary of my spring. Three high-tier executioner fleets have already breached the upper atmosphere, led by the grand inquisitors. They are coming to reclaim their runaway mage... and to purge every living entity hiding in these waters."
Elara went completely pale, her breath hitching in her throat as she clutched her wand tightly.
Kyle gritted his teeth, forcing his body up from the couch despite the lingering stiffness in his muscles. He swung his legs over the edge of the coral bench, his dark eyes locking onto Seraphina’s violet gaze with an unyielding, fire-forged determination.
Seraphina offered him a sad, small smile, her slender hand reaching out to touch his cheek one last time.
"I am sorry, my king," Seraphina whispered softly, her voice heavy with the inevitable storm brewing above. "Your rest is about to be cut very short."
