Chapter 435: Demon Vs Mage

The air inside the dry, pressurized cylinder of vacuum crackled with heat. The heavy-armored Clover Knight lowered his massive, double-edged greatsword, the tip hovering inches above the stone seabed. Concentrated golden light flowed along the etched runes of his plate armor, humming with an oppressive, metallic resonance.

"You speak no name, yet you reek of abyssal corruption," the knight said, his pale metallic eyes narrowing as he took a slow, heavy step forward. "I am **Commander Sir Gareth**, Third Blade of the Fifth Fleet. By the authority of the Clover Council, your existence ends here."

Kyle didn’t bother responding with words. His teeth were slick with dark blood, and every pulse of his shadow channels felt like hot needles sliding beneath his skin. But behind his eyes, a cold, calculated stillness took over.

*Snow,* Kyle called out internally, shifting his weight onto his back foot. *Target analysis.*

[Target identified: Heavy Paladin Class,] Snow’s voice chimed inside his consciousness. [Armor composition: High-density solar steel with kinetic dissipation runes. Primary weapon output: High-frequency light manipulation. Note: Physical defense is near absolute against standard physical and elemental strikes. Target relies on heavy, directional bursts.]

’Directional,’ Kyle noted. ’Then he can’t turn quickly in mid-swing.’

"Die, rat!" Gareth roared.

Gareth lunged forward. Despite the massive weight of his gilded plate armor, the light-mana bursting from his greaves propelled him across the dry vacuum zone like a cannonball. He brought his greatsword down in a brutal, diagonal cleave aimed straight through Kyle’s left shoulder to his hip.

**"Solar Cleave!"**

A wave of solid, blinding light erupted from the blade’s edge, cutting through the dry air and shattering the stone floor beneath them.

Kyle didn’t try to block it. With his shadow channels active, he forced his damaged legs into a lateral burst, leaning back just enough for the glowing edge to graze his leather coat. The intense heat scorched the fabric instantly, leaving a angry red burn across his chest, but the heavy blade slammed harmlessly into the seabed behind him.

*BOOM!*

Rock debris erupted into the dry air.

Before Gareth could reset his stance, Kyle stepped directly into the knight’s guard. He reversed his grip on his shadow talon, channeling every scrap of dark mana he could squeeze from his fractured core into the blade’s point.

**"Abyssal Thrust: Point Blank!"**

The pitch-black blade struck the center of Gareth’s chest plate.

*CLANG!*

Sparks of black and gold energy exploded wildly inside the vacuum cylinder. The point of Kyle’s shadow blade bit three inches into the solar steel, but the armor’s kinetic dissipation runes flared bright gold, spreading the impact across the entire chest piece and preventing the blade from reaching the flesh beneath.

Gareth didn’t even stumble. He looked down at Kyle’s blade buried in his chest plate, a cruel, arrogant smirk spreading across his face.

"Is that all?" Gareth sneered. "Abyssal magic is a pathetic flame before the sun!"

Gareth slammed his left gauntlet forward, the bronze knuckles glowing with white-hot light as he delivered a devastating, short-range punch straight into Kyle’s ribs.

*CRACK!*

The force of the impact lifted Kyle off his feet. Two of his ribs snapped like dry twigs, and the agonizing shockwave traveled through his damaged spirit tracks, causing him to vomit a fresh spurt of blood mid-air. He slammed hard into the wall of the trench, sliding down into the cold mud outside the vacuum cylinder.

"Kyle!" Snow’s warning chimed sharp inside his head. [Core stability dropped to twenty-eight percent! Severe blunt-force trauma to the chest cavity! Further physical impacts will cause total skeletal collapse!]

Kyle gasped for breath, his vision swimming with dark spots as cold seawater washed over his burnt chest. The salt bit into his open cuts, screaming pain through his nervous system, but the cold water also forced his brain into hyper-focus.

Gareth walked out of the vacuum cylinder, stepping casually into the deep water. The golden aura surrounding his armor repelled the ocean pressure effortlessly, casting long, ominous shadows across the ruined aqueduct.

"You bleed like any mortal creature," Gareth said, raising his greatsword above his head as the runes along the blade ignited into a brilliant, golden cross. "Your shadow tricks cannot breach solar steel, and your fragile body is already breaking under its own weight. Accept your execution."

Kyle pushed himself up against the trench wall, wiping the blood from his lips with his sleeve. He looked at Gareth’s impenetrable armor, then down at the deep, jagged crack his previous thrust had left in the center chest plate.

The armor was impenetrable from the outside, yes. But the kinetic runes had taken the force of the strike and distributed it inward to prevent structural shattering.

*It distributed the force inward,* Kyle realized, a cold, dark smile touching his lips.

"Snow," Kyle whispered, clutching his chest with his left hand as dark, wispy tendrils of shadow mana began to gather around his right palm, condensing not into a sharp blade, but into a dense, fluid sphere of compressed black fog. "Can you synchronize my shadow pulse with the frequency of his armor’s kinetic runes?"

[Calculating...] Snow replied instantly. [Synchronization is possible, but it requires holding physical contact with the damaged chest plate for at least two seconds. Risk factor: High.]

"Two seconds is plenty," Kyle muttered.

"Still standing?" Gareth taunted, stepping closer as the golden cross above his sword reached maximum charge. **"Grand Art: Sunfall Execution!"**

Gareth swung the massive blade downward! A pillar of condensed, white-hot solar energy forty feet wide erupted from the sword, tearing through the seabed and vaporizing the sea water in its path as it raced straight toward Kyle!

The attack was too wide to dodge in the narrow trench.

Kyle didn’t try to run. Instead, he ignited the shadow channels in his feet, blasting himself directly *toward* the incoming pillar of light!

"Is he insane?!" Gareth gasped, his eyes widening in shock.

Kyle plunged straight into the outer edge of the solar pillar. The extreme heat scorched his skin, burning his clothes and searing his hair, but he forced his body through the blinding glare through sheer, terrifying willpower. He emerged from the flames right in front of Gareth, his dark eyes burning with unholy, pitch-black fire.

Before Gareth could raise his sword to guard, Kyle slammed his left hand directly onto the deep crack in Gareth’s chest plate!

"Got you," Kyle rasped.

"Get off me!" Gareth roared, raising his gauntlet to crush Kyle’s head.

Kyle ignored the incoming fist. He pressed his palm flat against the broken solar steel and detonated the fluid sphere of compressed shadow mana!

**"Abyssal Resonance: Internal Implosion!"**

*BZZZZZZT!*

The dark mana didn’t try to pierce the armor from the outside. Instead, it matched the frequency of the kinetic dissipation runes, riding the armor’s own magic channels straight through the steel plates and flooding directly into the interior cavity of the suit!

Gareth’s eyes snapped wide. The arrogant smirk vanished from his face, replaced by absolute, unadulterated horror.

"W-What did you...?" Gareth choked out.

Inside the sealed, airtight suit of plate armor, the compressed shadow mana expanded violently! With nowhere for the pressure to escape, the dark force imploded straight into Gareth’s internal organs!

*THUMMMMM!*

A muffled, sickening crunch echoed from inside the gilded suit. Blood poured out from every seam, joint, and visor slit of Gareth’s pristine armor, staining the surrounding sea water dark red.

The golden light on the greatsword flickered once, twice, and then extinguished completely.

Gareth’s knees buckled. The heavy, double-edged sword slipped from his fingers, clattering uselessly against the stone seabed. The massive knight collapsed forward, slamming heavily into the mud at Kyle’s feet, completely lifeless.

Kyle stood over the fallen knight, his chest heaving violently. His skin was pale, covered in severe burns and dark blood, and his shadow channels finally flickered out, leaving him utterly exhausted.

[Target eliminated,] Snow reported softly. [Shadow channels entering forced cooldown. Internal core stability at nineteen percent. Kyle, you must rest immediately.]

"No rest yet..." Kyle wheezed, stumbling past Gareth’s body as he looked down the dark, narrow canyon toward the Serpent’s Maw.

The distant sound of roaring explosions and flashes of dark crimson light told him Yua was still fighting. Taking a slow, painful breath, Kyle forced his broken legs forward, limping deeper into the abyss.
