Triple X System
Chapter 494: Sky Fall
The transition through the master gateway of the Highland Overlook was unlike any vertical elevation they had experienced so far.
Instead of a blinding flash or a sensation of rapid acceleration, the silver-and-sapphire light engulfed them like cool, weightless water. For several long seconds, the team felt as though they were floating in an endless sea of pure spatial mana. The wild electrical static of the lower ridge, the heavy sulfur of the Pavilion, and the damp cold of the volcanic cliffs completely dissolved, replaced by an absolute, crystal-clear stillness.
Then, with the soft, heavy thud of leather boots hitting solid stone, weight returned to their limbs.
The air that rushed into their lungs was piercingly thin and freezing cold, carrying a sharp, metallic tang that tasted of unrefined silver and crushed glass. High-altitude winds howled across an open expanse, whipping through Kyle’s dark coat with a relentless, predatory roar.
When their vision cleared, Kyle, Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua were standing at the edge of a colossal, circular platform carved from pale-blue celestial granite.
They had reached Tier 4: The Sky-Falling Plateau.
Unlike the volcanic ridges of Tier Three or the enclosed marble avenues of the first tier, Tier Four was a realm of fractured, floating continents. As far as the eye could see, massive landmasses—some the size of small cities, others small jagged islands of dark slate—drifted slowly through a sea of swirling, indigo twilight. Floating far above the plateau, glowing with a ominous, pale-violet radiance, were hundreds of colossal, sharp crystal spires that hung upside down from the roof of the realm like gargantuan, frozen stalactites.
Every few minutes, one of the smaller crystal spires above would fracture with a sharp, echoing CRACK, plunging thousands of feet through the sky to shatter against the floating landmasses below in a brilliant shower of sparkling, lethal shrapnel.
"Well... the floor’s name certainly isn’t a metaphor," Falcon noted dryly.
She stood close to Kyle’s left, her dark hair whipping wildly across her face in the biting wind. Her four dark brown tails flared instantly, their tips igniting with vibrant, endothermic green poison-lightning that crackled softly against the freezing air to maintain her body temperature. Her golden eyes tracked a falling crystal spire three miles away as it slammed into a floating island, obliterating a stone ridge into fine powder. "Those falling spires aren’t just rocks. They’re packed with high-density spatial pressure."
"It’s a gravimetric decay zone," Seraphina said, her voice strained as she planted the butt of her ocean trident onto the pale-blue granite floor.
Her royal blue hair fluttered in the gale, and a thin, translucent sphere of condensed sea-water immediately flared around their group, locking the biting wind out. Her newly refined thunder-domain hummed softly within the water veil, grounding the ambient spatial static before it could touch their skin. "The spatial anchors holding the ceiling of Tier Four are failing. The atmospheric pressure shifts constantly depending on which floating plateau you stand on."
Yua walked to the very edge of the blue granite platform, leaning forward to look into the vast, bottomless abyss beneath their boots. Down in the infinite blue depth, faint rifts of dark violet void fire flickered like hungry eyes.
"No bridge this time," Yua said, turning her head back with a sharp, feral grin. She flexed her pale hands, dark purple ribbons of blood-electricity swirling around her fingers. "Just floating rocks and a long drop. How are we supposed to cross to the primary ascension tower over there?"
She pointed her clawed finger toward a massive, inverted pyramid floating five miles across the void—a gargantuan structure of dark silver stone and glowing blue runes that served as the central core anchor of Tier Four.
Kyle stood at the front of the platform, his dark coat heavy against his calves, his pitch-black demon gauntlet resting calmly against the hilt of his dark shadow blade.
His slitted dark eyes mapped the floating landmasses stretching across the void. The Lightning-Core Spatial Ring on his right index finger hummed with a quiet, steady resonance, automatically absorbing the ambient spatial static and funneling it into his secondary reservoir.
’Snow,’ Kyle commanded silently. ’Analyze the spatial lattice of Tier Four.’
’Scanning Tier 4: The Sky-Falling Plateau,’ Snow’s melodic voice resonated inside his mind space, laying out a complex, three-dimensional wireframe map across his sight. ’Warning: Ambient gravity fluctuates between 0.5G and 4.0G depending on proximity to falling crystal spires. Spatial teleportation across the void is restricted by active gravimetric rifts.’
’What is the primary transit method?’ Kyle evaluated.
’The floating plateaus move along fixed spatial ley-lines,’ Snow detailed, highlighting a series of glowing blue pathways connecting the scattered landmasses like invisible bridges. ’Ascendants must calculate the ley-line convergence points to jump between plateaus while avoiding falling crystal debris.’
’Hostiles?’
’Scanning sector,’ Snow warned, highlighting sixteen fast-moving crimson signatures descending from the upper crystal ceiling. ’Hostile entity detected: Void-Stalker Drakes—aerial wyverns mutated by spatial decay, capable of phasing through gravimetric waves.’
Kyle raised his right gauntlet slightly, signaling his team to prepare. "We don’t have time to wait for the plateaus to align naturally. We move across the ley-line convergence points on foot, jumping from island to island."
"And the falling spires?" Falcon asked, her tails tightening behind her.
"We smash them or dodge them," Kyle replied flatly. "And we have company coming from the ceiling."
SCREEEEEECH!
A chorus of high-pitched, ear-splitting screeches echoed from the dark indigo sky above.
Descending from the upper crystal ceiling was a flock of sixteen massive, reptilian beasts. Each wyvern was twenty feet long, with sleek, iridescent black scales that absorbed the ambient light, long whip-like tails tipped with sharp bone scythes, and wide, translucent wings made of pure, pale-violet spatial energy. Their eyes glowed with an unholy, void-corrupted crimson light as they locked onto the four figures standing on the celestial granite platform.
"Void Drakes," Seraphina identified, her grip tightening on her trident. "Their wings allow them to glide along the gravimetric rifts without being affected by the heavy gravity!"
"They think they own the sky," Yua laughed, her dark red blood-mana erupting around her arms like two roaring tornadoes laced with purple thunder. "Let’s see how well they fly with broken wings!"
"Hold your positions," Kyle commanded, his voice calm, flat, and absolute. "Seraphina, lock the atmospheric moisture around our platform to create a stable anchor. Falcon, use your green frost to freeze their spatial wings when they dive. Yua, clear anything that reaches the stone."
"What about you, boss?" Falcon asked, her eyes narrowing as the lead Void Drake tucked its wings and went into a steep, supersonic dive straight toward Kyle.
"I’m clearing the sky," Kyle said quietly.
He didn’t draw his shadow blade. Instead, he took a single step forward, executing an instantaneous, short-range spatial step that launched him fifty feet straight into the freezing air above the platform.
The lead Void Drake opened its massive, iron-toothed maw, preparing to unleash a beam of concentrated, violet void lightning directly onto the airborne human.
Kyle met the diving beast mid-air.
He raised his pitch-black demon gauntlet, his iron fingers closing into a tight, dense fist. The Lightning-Core Spatial Ring on his index finger flared with a brilliant, midnight-black light, discharging a massive pulse of stored volcanic thunder and anti-elemental spatial mana directly into his knuckles.
Void-Thunder Style: Third Form—Spatial Impact.
Kyle drove his gauntleted right fist straight into the snout of the descending twenty-foot Drake.
KA-BOOOOOOM!
The collision shattered the air like a sheet of ice. The sheer kinetic and spatial force behind Kyle’s punch didn’t just break the beast’s snout—it sent a crushing shockwave ripping through the Drake’s entire skeleton. The beast’s black scales exploded outward, its spatial wings disintegrated into fine purple dust, and its twenty-foot body was blasted backward into the sky like a cannonball, slamming into a second incoming Drake behind it!
Both beasts tumbled out of the sky, screeching in agony before plunging into the bottomless void below.
Kyle used the recoil of the impact to execute a second spatial step, landing lightly on his feet back at the front of the celestial granite platform, his dark coat sweeping smoothly around his calves.
"Fourteen left," Kyle stated flatly, his dark eyes reflecting the crimson glow of the descending flock.
"Show-off," Yua grinned, though her expression was filled with fierce, unshakeable pride.
Three Drakes broke away from the main cluster, swooping low around the left side of the platform to strike at Seraphina’s water veil.
"Sea-Storm Domain: Lightning Lock!" Seraphina shouted, driving the butt of her trident into the granite floor.
The translucent sphere of sea-water surrounding the team suddenly expanded fifty feet outward, transforming into a dense, swirling ring of high-pressure liquid. As the three Drakes slammed into the water veil, the violet thunder humming within Seraphina’s domain instantly surged into their bodies, paralyzing their muscular systems in a fraction of a second.
"Falcon! Now!" Seraphina called out.
Falcon launched herself forward, her four dark brown tails sweeping through the paralyzed Drakes in a brilliant, fan-like arc.
"Poison-Thunder Art: Frost Scythe!" Falcon shouted.
Her green-and-purple flames sliced through the three beasts’ wings like hot knives through butter. The intense endothermic cold froze their spatial membranes solid, causing the wings to snap off with clean, metallic CLACKS.
The three wingless Drakes crashed heavily onto the blue granite floor, skidding across the stone right toward Yua’s waiting feet.
"My turn!" Yua roared.
She leaped into the air, bringing her heavy, blood-mana-infused heels down onto the head of the first Drake, crushing its skull into the stone. Without pausing, she spun on her palm, sweeping her right leg out in a brutal, blood-lightning-infused kick that shattered the neck of the second beast, then drove her claws straight into the chest core of the third, tearing its internal mana matrix to shreds.
In less than forty seconds, five of the sixteen Void Drakes had been completely annihilated.
The remaining eleven Drakes abruptly pulled up from their dive, hovering three hundred yards in the air above the platform. Their crimson eyes flickered with a new, terrified caution as they realized the four mortals on the platform were not helpless prey, but apex predators who dismantled their flock with terrifying efficiency.
CRACK-THUUUUUUM!
Before the remaining Drakes could coordinate a second attack, a colossal crystal spire—over two hundred feet long and weighing thousands of tons—fractured from the ceiling directly above the platform!
The gargantuan crystal spear plunged through the sky like the pillar of a falling temple, bringing with it a suffocating wave of extreme gravimetric pressure that locked the air around the platform in place.
The eleven hovering Drakes were caught in the sudden gravimetric drop, their wings buckling under the immense weight as they were dragged down toward the platform alongside the falling spire.
" Kyle!" Seraphina yelled, her water veil compressing rapidly under the crushing atmospheric weight of the falling crystal. "The gravimetric pressure is too high to dodge!"
"We aren’t dodging," Kyle said, his voice flat, calm, and utterly unyielding.
He stepped to the very center of the platform, reaching out with both hands. His left hand gripped the hilt of his dark shadow blade, while his right gauntlet flared with the full, pale-blue authority of the Spire Key: Core Access Matrix.
The Lightning-Core Spatial Ring on his index finger spun rapidly, drawing out every drop of stored volcanic thunder and spatial kinetic energy he had gathered from the lower floors.
Kyle looked up at the descending two-hundred-foot crystal monolith that threatened to crush them all.
"Snow," Kyle commanded internally, his slitted dark eyes turning completely pitch-black as his Demon Knight core reached maximum resonance. "Override the local gravimetric lattice."
’Core Access Matrix engaged,’ Snow’s voice echoed like a ringing bell. ’Local gravity neutralized for three seconds.’
Kyle flexed his entire frame, bringing his shadow blade up from his hip in a massive, upward diagonal slash.
Void-Thunder Style: Final Form—Heaven Splitter.
A two-hundred-foot blade of absolute, midnight-black spatial void energy erupted from his sword, slicing upward through the storm like a ray of dark light.
SHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-BOOM!
The black spatial blade struck the descending crystal spire right down its center.
The two-hundred-foot crystal monolith didn’t shatter into dangerous falling rocks; the void energy dissolved its molecular structure instantly, turning the gargantuan spire into a harmless cloud of fine, sparkling blue dust that blew away in the mountain wind. The eleven Void Drakes trapped in the spire’s wake were caught in the sweeping void arc, their bodies disintegrating into nothingness before they could even let out a final screech.
The heavy gravimetric pressure vanished instantly. The sky above the blue granite platform cleared, leaving only the quiet, howling wind and the gentle drift of sparkling blue crystal dust.
Kyle slowly lowered his shadow blade, sheathing the sleek black steel with a quiet, satisfying CLICK. His dark coat settled around his calves, and his pitch-black gauntlet returned to his side, the spatial ring humming softly as it stabilized his core.
Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua stood in silence for three seconds, looking up at the clean, empty sky where the colossal spire had just hung.
Falcon let out a long, low whistle, her four dark brown tails giving a relaxed, proud swish behind her. "Well... that’s one way to clear the sky, boss."
Yua wiped a lock of dark hair from her eyes, her white fangs showing in a wide, satisfied grin. "I’m starting to think these floors are getting scared of us."
Seraphina walked up to Kyle’s side, her blue eyes filled with deep, unshakeable respect as she looked out over the floating plateaus stretching toward the inverted pyramid in the distance. "The path across the ley-lines is open. The gravimetric disturbance cleared a direct line to the second island."
Kyle turned his slitted dark eyes toward the inverted silver pyramid floating five miles across the void—the core anchor of Tier Four.
"We don’t stop," Kyle said, his voice grounded, heavy, and absolute. "We cross the plateaus, take the core, and keep climbing."
With their cores steady, their domain authority refined, and their strength tested against the falling skies, Kyle Conner led his party off the blue granite platform, stepping onto the floating ley-line path toward the next Chapter of the Spire.
