True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits
Chapter 375: Lucian Cross’s Teacher.
"Well... it would but you alone won’t be able to do any meaningful dama—"
Before he could even complete his words, Vivienne was already walking towards the barrier with her sword in her hand.
She was going to break this thing herself.
Valerian watched her walk away and stop far enough away that her attack wouldn’t affect the Veyr Formation.
Then, she pointed her sword at the barrier in a way that its tip touched it, then, she took her stance, moved the sword back in a straight line and—
She pierced forward and—
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
The collision between her sword and the barrier caused a huge explosion. The Veyr Vampires stared at the sight in front of them in utter shock.
To think... one person could let out this much force...
Just...
What sort of absurd being was she...?
Still, even as Vivienne attacked, even as the ground beneath her shook from the impact, the attack itself only made the barrier ripple, nothing else.
Valerian stared at that. The barrier wasn’t damaged much and he wasn’t surprised.
The Arcelis Barrier was specifically designed to withstand beings like them, if it was weak enough to be broken by Vivienne, Valerian would have destroyed it already. After all, he too, had a sister inside.
He thought Vivienne would give up seeing her attack had practically no effect on the barrier but...
The woman simply took her stance again and—
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
She attacked again.
Valerian frowned at that.
"Everhart."
He called out.
"You won’t be able to break it."
He spoke honestly and Vivienne—
"I know."
She just nodded and took her stance again.
Valerian stared at her and for a very short moment, he saw it. Her hand that was holding the sword trembled a little.
He looked into her cold eyes and there, he noticed something beneath that coldness...
Desperation.
And Valerian’s face changed.
This woman...
She knew.
She knew this was practically useless, she knew even her attacks wouldn’t make a difference against an Ancient Formation and yet...
She was still doing it.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
She attacked again.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Then again.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Then again.
The woman kept going, again and again, trying to make a difference when she knew she wouldn’t.
"Patriarch..."
One of the Veyr Vampires stared at the sight with an awed look on his face.
"Eyes forward."
Valerian gave an order.
His Vampires turned.
"Again."
Valerian announced, the Veyr Vampires activated the Formation once again while Valerian himself...
He kept staring at the woman still attacking the barrier in front of her. As if she had made up her mind that either she was going to break the barrier today or... she was going to break herself.
Valerian’s face changed, he then raised two fingers, one of the Vampires who wasn’t part of the Veyr Piercing Formation noticed it instantly and appeared behind him.
"Contact the Enclave."
Valerian ordered.
"Yes, Patriarch."
The Vampire nodded.
He took out a communication artifact, contacted the Enclave, then, after a few conversations, he made them direct the call to those with the highest authority before finally giving the artifact to Valerian.
Valerian took the Artifact and as he did, a voice came from the other side.
[Patriarch Veyr.]
"Directorate Severin."
Valerian recognised the voice.
The Concord Seat, the one responsible for the Enclave’s diplomacy.
[I am here with all available Directorates.]
Valerian nodded at that.
That meant the Enclave too, was taking this seriously and wasn’t just trying to dismiss him.
Valerian’s eyes momentarily moved toward Vivienne, still attacking the barrier, then—
"I have Vivienne Everhart standing outside House Arcelis."
He spoke directly and after a small pause, he received an answer.
[We are aware.]
Valerian raised an eyebrow at that.
"Is she operating under Enclave authority?"
He asked and this time, the response came almost immediately.
[She is not.]
Valerian’s expression changed, he looked at Vivienne again.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
She struck the barrier again.
"Then why is Humanity’s Strongest Hunter here?"
The Vampire asked.
Then, after another momentary pause, the Concord Seat answered.
[Her student is inside.]
From his tone, it seemed like even he couldn’t believe he was saying those words.
"Lucian Cross?"
[Yes.]
Valerian paused at that.
So she was independently attacking an Ancient Vampire House’s Barrier... for her student?
He stared at the woman again.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
She attacked the barrier again, not caring about anything else happening around her.
The very thought made him... go silent.
He didn’t know how he was supposed to react to that and that was when Severin spoke again.
[Patriarch Veyr.]
"Hm?"
[A request.]
Valerian raised an eyebrow at that.
"I’m listening."
[Please do not obstruct her.]
The Concord Seat spoke, from his tone, it was clear the man was practically losing his mind right now.
Valerian was confused for a moment. He glanced at Vivienne. If she was doing all this for her student, that would mean she just wanted to break the barrier and get inside. Their goals were the same, so he had no reason to obstruct her.
"I wasn’t planning to."
He gave an honest answer and Severin...
[Thank you.]
He seemed... relieved.
Valerian frowned, something about that response bothered him. It felt... incomplete, as if there was a story he did not know.
And there was.
[We tried.]
"...you tried to stop her?"
Valerian asked with an absurd look on his face.
Severin remained silent for a moment, he was looking at the rest of the Directorates around him, then, he glanced at the missing seats.
[Three Directorates are currently receiving medical treatment.]
He revealed information he normally never would have revealed and Valerian...
His eyes returned to Vivienne again.
"Did she...?"
He didn’t ask a complete question, he didn’t have to.
[Yes. They tried to stop her from going. Then all we heard was an explosion, the building they were in was destroyed, the three were lying unconscious and she was gone.]
Again, Severin would never reveal this.
He just wanted to tell Valerian how grave the situation was.
Vivienne usually never lost control, even in battles where she might die, she always made decisions once she considered every little aspect of them.
Right now, however, that Vivienne was gone.
She was desperate.
And...
Desperate Vivienne was very dangerous.
The last thing Severin currently wanted was for the Veyr Vampires to try and stop Vivienne and for Vivienne to remove them from existence in anger.
The political mess that would cause would be... enormous.
And Valerian...
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
As he stared at Vivienne still attacking the barrier—
"Thank you for telling us."
He understood the situation very well.
Right now,
Vivienne Everhart wasn’t Humanity’s Strongest Hunter.
She was Lucian Cross’s Teacher.
