Chapter 408: Chapter 408: I Refuse to Be the Fall Guy

Ye Feng hurried to catch up. He looked at the girl and asked, "Cao Bi, does your family have a Qilin Spear?"

"You motherfucker! Still trying to get fresh with her?" the tall man in black beside her roared furiously.

But the girl waved him off, looked at Ye Feng, and said calmly, "You’re going to the Deng family because you want the Qilin Spear?"

Ye Feng nodded. "That’s right. I’m here for the Qilin Spear. I hear your godfather is a difficult man. Do you think he’ll give it to me?"

"He will. Of course he will. My godfather is actually very easygoing," the girl said casually, then turned and started walking ahead.

After walking a short distance, the girl turned to Ye Feng and said, "Wait here a minute. We set some traps nearby. We’re going to go check if we’ve had any luck."

Ye Feng stopped and watched as the girl and her group walked into the nearby woods.

But in the next instant, everything changed.

A bolt from a giant crossbow whistled through the air, heading straight for him.

Ye Feng dodged sharply to the side. An instant later, the massive bolt screamed past where he had been.

Before he could even regain his footing, he heard another whoosh from above. Ye Feng looked up to see a large hunting net falling down on him.

Ye Feng dodged to the side again, but the next moment, the ground beneath his foot gave way.

Ye Feng slapped a nearby tree, launching himself to the side. But before he regained his balance, a landmine on the ground detonated with a thunderous BOOM.

"Holy shit, I’ve fallen into a goddamn nest of traps!" Ye Feng yelled. But in the next instant, a black dagger shot toward the back of his heart, followed by a furious shout: "You bastard, go to hell!"

It was the girl.

Ye Feng’s expression turned completely cold. In a single, fluid motion, his hand shot back and clamped onto the girl’s wrist. He yanked her into his embrace, pressing the cold steel of her own dagger against her long, elegant neck.

The men in black surrounding them stared at Ye Feng as if they were seeing a ghost.

’So many traps, and even with the young miss attacking him herself, we still couldn’t take this bastard down. How can he be this strong?’

Ye Feng looked at the girl, frowning. "We have no history, no grudge. Yet you keep trying to kill me, over and over. Don’t you think you’re going a little overboard?"

The girl’s eyes were full of astonishment, but it was quickly replaced by fury. She glared at Ye Feng and roared.

"You bastard! You were a complete pervert the moment we met, and you say we have no grudge? You say *I’m* going overboard? Who the hell do you think is going overboard here? Don’t you have a fucking clue?"

Ye Feng looked at her with an expression of pure innocence. "Miss, when was I ever a pervert to you? You can question my looks, but you can’t question my character!"

"Character? Hah! You think you have any character left? You bastard! Let me ask you, what was the first thing you said to me?" the girl roared, glaring at him.

"I just said your name... Cao Bi, wasn’t it...?"

"You’re Cao Bi! Your whole family is Cao Bi!" The girl was trembling with rage as she cursed him out.

"Cao Bi..." Ye Feng repeated, seeing how furious she was. Then, in the next instant, it clicked. "Holy shit. I’ve been had. Jade-Faced Asura, you just wait for it."

"Jade-Faced Asura?" The girl looked at Ye Feng, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.

Ye Feng gritted his teeth. "That’s right, it was her! She told me that in the shadowy Deng family, there was a devastatingly beautiful daughter named Cao Bi. I saw that you were an assassin and just as beautiful as the rumors said, so that’s why I asked!"

Hearing this string of honeyed words from Ye Feng, the girl’s expression softened considerably. She shot Ye Feng a glare.

"You sure have a mouth smeared with honey. Now are you going to let me go?"

Ye Feng gave an embarrassed chuckle and released the girl. "So you’re not called Cao... er, whatever it was. What’s your real name, then?"

"Our Young Miss’s name is—" the tall man in black began to say, but the girl cut him off.

"My name is Gunai!"

"Gunai?" Ye Feng repeated, looking at the girl.

"Yes! Good grandson!" she replied, then couldn’t help but start giggling.

Ye Feng instantly got it. ’Damn it, she’s messing with me.’

’He was so mad he could spit. These people and their damn homophone puns, one is more clever than the next.’

Seeing the look of utter exasperation on Ye Feng’s face, the girl burst out laughing, her whole body shaking with mirth.

In that moment, the entire world seemed to grow brighter. Ye Feng watched the girl, completely captivated.

’Holy shit, she’s beautiful!’

"You—!" Hearing his foul mouth again, the girl’s pretty face instantly turned cold. She shot him a vicious glare, then turned and walked away.

Ye Feng caught up with her. "Miss, we’re even now, right?"

"Hmph. Even," the girl nodded.

But Ye Feng could distinctly hear her gritting her teeth as she said it.

Ye Feng smiled wryly to himself. ’This girl really holds a grudge.’

’Then again,’ he thought, ’considering how I "greeted" her, anyone would be upset.’

Ye Feng shook his head. ’Forget it. I’m just here to get my Qilin Spear back. Why should I care so much about her?’

The group arrived before a valley. At its entrance stood a tall gatehouse. On the lintel above the gate were two large, dark gold words: Deng Residence.

Seeing the girl, the guards at the gate hurried over, bowing respectfully. "Young Miss!"

The guards had barely finished speaking when a young man walked out from the main gate. He looked at the girl and burst out laughing.

"Ling’Er, you’re finally back! I’ve been waiting for you for so long!"

The young man walked up to Ling’Er, his eyes raking her up and down, his greedy gaze completely undisguised.

Ye Feng sized up the young man. His face was covered in acne as bumpy as a toad’s back, and the dark circles under his eyes spoke volumes about his debauched lifestyle. He was dressed in a designer suit, but it did nothing to conceal his sleazy aura.

The young man rubbed his hands together, staring at Ling’Er with a sleazy grin. "Ling’Er, I’m here today to formally propose to you!"

With that, he pulled a ring from his pocket, dropped to one knee in front of her, and held it high as he declared loudly:

"Ling’Er, marry me!"

Ling’Er looked at the young man, her eyes filled with disgust. She was about to snap at him, but then she saw Ye Feng standing off to the side.

An idea flashed in her eyes. She pointed at Ye Feng, then looked back at the young man and sighed.

"Feng Jia, you see? I already have a sweetheart. So, I can’t accept your proposal. With your standing, I’m sure you can find someone much better than me!"

The young man, Feng Jia, spun around and fixed Ye Feng with a death glare, his eyes instantly turning ice-cold.

Standing behind them, Ye Feng immediately understood what the girl was up to.

’Holy shit, she’s using me as a human shield again! Not this time! I’m not playing the part of the fall guy!’

So he waved his hand at Feng Jia and said earnestly:

"Hey buddy, she’s just messing with you. There’s absolutely nothing between us. I don’t even like her—"

"But I like you!" Ye Feng’s words had barely faded when the girl’s interjection left him completely stunned.
