Chapter 69: Chapter 69: President of the United States Medical Association, Sofia
Ye Feng looked at Wang Genzhi and asked with a smile, "Uncle Wang, you’re friends with a high-ranking military official? How come I’ve never heard Luyao mention it?"
Wang Genzhi flushed and said awkwardly, "We just met. Just met."
’Friends, my ass,’ he thought. ’He’s just a powerful figure I’m trying to latch onto.’
Just then, the guard came out. He looked at the two of them and said coldly, "You can go in, but I’m warning you, be on your best behavior. Follow me."
Wang Genzhi nodded hurriedly. He and Ye Feng followed the guard into the courtyard and over to the east wing, where the guard gestured for them to enter.
Wang Genzhi and Ye Feng entered the east wing.
Inside the room, an old man was lying on a bed set against the wall.
The old man’s hair and beard were completely white. He was gaunt and so thin he was nearly skin and bones, yet even lying there, he possessed a dignified and inviolable air.
Clearly, this was no ordinary man.
Standing beside the sickbed was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman.
The woman looked to be around twenty years old. With her delicate features and fair, smooth skin, she was a Western beauty.
Her figure was incredible. The white lab coat couldn’t hope to conceal her magnificent curves; one glance was enough to pull a man’s eyes right in.
Just then, the old man on the bed’s breathing grew increasingly rapid. A moment later, he began to cough violently as fresh blood trickled from the corners of his mouth.
The woman frowned. "Sir, your condition can’t be delayed any longer. You need to follow my recommendation and have surgery immediately to remove your left lung. Otherwise, the infection will spread to your right lung, and at that point, it will truly be beyond saving."
The old man looked at the woman and asked, "If my left lung is removed, can I make a full recovery?"
The woman shook her head. "Your right lung is also severely damaged. Removing the left lung will only slow the infection’s spread. In other words, I can extend your life by three months."
The old man, however, chuckled. "If it means living without any quality of life, I’d rather just go. It would be a cleaner end."
The woman’s frown deepened. "Sir, you really should listen to me and have the lung removed. Otherwise, you absolutely will not survive the week."
The old man smiled. "If I can’t survive the week, so be it. I’ve lived for over eighty years. I’m truly not afraid of death."
A middle-aged woman caring for the old man quickly chimed in, "Miss Sofia, a Divine Doctor actually prescribed some Chinese medicine for the old master, and he’s been taking it..."
Before the woman had even finished speaking, a curly-haired man standing behind the blonde woman scoffed, "Chinese medicine? A Divine Doctor? Heh. Let me tell you, Chinese medicine is nothing but fraudulent witchcraft. It might be able to treat a few minor aches and fevers, but when it comes to a critical illness like this, it’s utterly useless."
Ye Feng, standing in the back, hadn’t planned on saying anything. But hearing the curly-haired man slander Chinese medicine so viciously, he couldn’t listen anymore and spoke up, displeased.
"Who told you Chinese medicine is witchcraft? That it can only treat minor aches and fevers and is useless for critical illnesses?
Open a history book. Look at how many world-renowned practitioners of Chinese medicine Great Xia has produced! How many patients on the brink of death have they saved?
Speak if you know what you’re talking about. If you don’t, then stop spouting nonsense."
"You..." The curly-haired man flushed beet-red from the rebuke, his mouth hanging open, speechless.
Just then, the blonde woman turned to face Ye Feng and said, displeased,
"Sir, the truth is that Western medicine has developed to a point where, in many respects, it is indeed superior to Chinese medicine..."
She had barely finished speaking when Ye Feng cut her off without a shred of courtesy. "Miss, let me ask you something. Where exactly is Western medicine superior? Is its only solution to just cut out whatever part has a problem?
It’s a great method, I’ll admit. By the end, the patient has no more illness... because they’re just a skeleton who’s gone off to have a chat with God!"
Hearing Ye Feng talk to the woman with such disrespect, the curly-haired man behind her exploded in anger.
"Do you have any idea who she is? I’ll tell you! She’s the president of the United States Medical Association, President Sofia!
The medical standards of the United States Medical Association are considered top-tier worldwide! Our president is respected all over the globe.
And you dare to speak to her like that? Insolent fool! Apologize to the president at once, or don’t blame me for what comes next."
But Sofia raised a hand, stopping the curly-haired man. She then looked at Ye Feng and spoke coldly.
"Sir, I despise this self-righteous and blindly arrogant attitude of yours.
If you can prove you have actual skill today, then we can let this slide. But if you can’t, then I’m afraid you will have to apologize to me!"
Seeing Sofia’s haughty expression, Ye Feng chuckled. He ignored her completely and walked straight over to the sickbed.
The old man looked at Ye Feng and gave a wry smile. "Young man, if you’re also here to suggest cutting parts off me, you can save your breath. This old man would like to leave this world in one piece!"
Ye Feng shook his head. "Sir, Chinese medicine is about restoring balance, not brute-force removal. Rest assured, I won’t touch a single ’part’ on you."
The old man’s eyes lit up slightly, but they soon dimmed again. He shook his head and said,
"Doctor, if all you can do is prolong my life and force me to live without dignity, then never mind!"
Ye Feng smiled faintly. "And what if I can help you make a full recovery, to be as strong and healthy as you were before?"
The old man’s eyes lit up instantly. He looked at Ye Feng with a smile and said, "Young man, if you can really do that, then this old man will be sure to thank you properly..."
The curly-haired man behind them glared at Ye Feng and sneered, "You haven’t even looked at the test results. You have no idea what the patient’s condition is, and you’re just here spouting nonsense. It’s nothing but a pathetic attempt to grab the spotlight."
The old man looked at the curly-haired man and was about to speak, but he was seized by a violent coughing fit. The cough grew worse and worse until he couldn’t stop. His face turned ashen, and blood trickled from the corners of his lips.
"George, give the old gentleman his cough medicine, quickly," Sofia ordered, looking at the curly-haired man.
George glanced at Ye Feng beside him and suddenly chuckled. "President, didn’t he say he could grant the patient a full recovery? In that case, a little cough like this should be a trivial matter for him!
Let’s have him stop the patient’s coughing!"
Sofia frowned. "Chinese medicine works slowly, and the patient’s condition is critical. We can’t afford any delays! Just give him the medicine already!"
George looked at Ye Feng and said with a smug grin, "See? Chinese medicine is slow. It might help with recovery, but in a life-or-death moment, you still need Western medicine to save the day. Got it?"
Ye Feng looked at George and asked coldly, "Who told you Chinese medicine is slow?"
Without another word, he ignored George, pulled a needle pouch from his pocket, and drew out a handful of silver needles. With a flick of his wrist, in the blink of an eye, forty-nine silver needles were embedded in the old man’s vital acupoints.
Ye Feng placed both his hands over the silver needles, channeling his Inner Strength directly into them. Stirred by his Inner Strength, the needles began to tremble nonstop, letting out a low hum.
