Ultimate Master in the City
Chapter 70: A Stunning Display of Skill
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: A Stunning Display of Skill
Watching from behind, Sofia’s beautiful eyes widened in astonishment. She couldn’t help but gasp, "The Ghostly Shadow Willow-Brushing Hand! That’s the most legendary needling technique in all of acupuncture...
"Oh my god, he’s guiding the needles with his internal energy! I thought that was just a myth. I can’t believe someone can actually do it."
As she spoke, Sofia gazed at Ye Feng, her eyes filled with wonder.
George, standing beside her, curled his lip. "Just a cheap street performer’s trick. If it can’t cure the illness, what’s the point...?"
The words were barely out of his mouth when the middle-aged woman beside them cried out excitedly, "He’s not coughing! The coughing has really stopped!"
George whipped around to look. To his astonishment, the old man, who had been wracked by coughs just moments ago, had completely stopped. Even the color in his face had improved significantly!
At that moment, Sofia was utterly captivated by Ye Feng’s medical prowess. Her arrogant demeanor had vanished completely. She hurried forward, stopping in front of Ye Feng and exclaiming excitedly:
"Little Divine Doctor, you’ve shown me the wondrous art of Chinese medicine. I’m a believer now. I believe that Chinese medicine can truly heal."
"Little Divine Doctor, could you teach me that incredible needle technique? Let’s work together to bring the medical arts to new heights!"
In that instant, Sofia was no longer the aloof, proud swan she had been. Instead, she was like a passionate fangirl meeting her idol, her expression a mixture of fervor and adoration!
Watching from the side, George’s face soured as if he’d just swallowed a fly; he felt utterly disgusted.
He’d had a secret crush on Sofia and pursued her bitterly for five whole years, but she had never given him the time of day. To see her acting so warmly toward this stranger made him so furious he felt like his lungs would explode!
So he glared at Ye Feng and said coldly, "As I said, it’s just a cheap street trick. He can only stop the old man’s coughing temporarily. It’s impossible for him to cure the root of the illness! Chinese medicine is completely useless."
Hearing George repeatedly slander Chinese medicine and put down his good son-in-law, Wang Genzhi couldn’t take it anymore. He glared at George and said:
"You’re just a frog in a well. How could you possibly know the power of Chinese medicine? Let me ask you this: what will you do if my master cures this patient today?"
George sneered, "That’s completely impossible!"
"But what if it happens?" Wang Genzhi pressed.
George declared arrogantly, "If he can actually cure the patient, I’ll admit that Chinese medicine truly works."
Seeing Sofia standing by Ye Feng’s side like a little fangirl, a skyscraper of rage erupted in George’s heart. It wasn’t enough, so he added another condition:
"If he can actually cure this patient, I’ll get on my knees and apologize to him. But if he doesn’t have the skill, then he has to get on his knees and apologize to me, and also declare that Chinese medicine is nothing but fraudulent witchcraft! I’m asking you, do you dare accept the wager?"
"I..." Wang Genzhi hesitated. Recalling Ye Feng’s earlier confidence, he gritted his teeth and shouted, "Fine! We accept!"
George sneered again. "I hope you don’t go back on your word!"
"A gentleman’s word is his bond! A real man’s promise is as solid as..." He trailed off, his confidence suddenly failing him. He quickly scurried to Ye Feng’s side and whispered:
"Ye Feng, are you sure about this?"
Ye Feng looked at Wang Genzhi with a perfectly straight face. "Uncle Wang, you were the one talking so big. You seemed pretty confident. Why don’t you handle it?"
Wang Genzhi’s face fell instantly. He looked at Ye Feng, so anxious he was on the verge of tears. "How could I possibly have that kind of skill? I’m counting on you, Master! You can’t leave me hanging like this!"
Ye Feng couldn’t help but chuckle at Wang Genzhi. ’Right, I’m the master here,’ he thought. He nodded at Wang Genzhi and said with complete confidence:
"Don’t worry, Uncle Wang. I won’t let your words be for nothing. And I won’t bring shame to Chinese medicine. Relax!"
With that, he turned to the old man. "Sir, your lung condition isn’t actually caused by a disease."
"Not caused by a disease?" The old man’s eyes flew wide as he stared at Ye Feng.
Ye Feng nodded. "Sir, if I’m not mistaken, you’ve been practicing a certain cultivation technique, haven’t you?"
The old man nodded quickly. "Yes, I’ve been practicing a Cultivation Technique passed down through my family to maintain my health."
"Would you mind letting me see the manual for this Cultivation Technique?" Ye Feng asked.
The old man immediately pulled a yellowed, ancient-looking book from under his pillow and handed it to Ye Feng.
Ye Feng briefly scanned the book, then nodded. "Just as I suspected," he said, looking at the old man. "This Cultivation Technique is indeed very powerful. It allows you to rapidly increase your cultivation."
"However, the technique has a fatal flaw. Its breathing method channels volatile energy into your lungs. Every time you practice, you are damaging them."
"Over time, this has riddled your lungs with injuries. Without a sufficient oxygen supply, your other organs have been affected as well, gradually failing. That’s why you are in your current state!"
The old man was stunned for a moment, then gave a bitter smile. "No wonder none of the big hospitals or their doctors could find the cause of my illness. So this was the reason all along!"
"Then, Little Divine Doctor, does this mean I can no longer practice this Cultivation Technique?"
Ye Feng shook his head. "That won’t be necessary. I can modify the breathing method for you. You’ll be able to continue your practice, and not only will it no longer harm your lungs, it will actually nourish them."
"You can start using the new breathing method right away. I guarantee that your body will gradually recover."
George, standing nearby, sneered at Ye Feng. "The patient is lying there, barely able to move. How is he supposed to practice a Cultivation Technique? You must be joking..."
The words were barely out of his mouth when, to his utter shock, the old man sat bolt upright in bed, swung his legs over the side, and stood up. All traces of his near-death state were gone, replaced by a vigorous aura that made him seem even sturdier than George himself.
George’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. ’How is this possible?’
But when he saw Sofia looking on with stars in her eyes, George’s stomach turned with disgust again. He curled his lip and said scornfully:
"Modifying a Cultivation Technique? That’s something only a grandmaster can do. How could a young brat like him possibly have that kind of ability? He’s obviously just grandstanding!"
"I guarantee that if the patient practices this ’modified’ technique, his condition will only get worse. He’s still going to be kneeling and apologizing to me today, and he’ll still have to admit that Chinese medicine is nothing but witchcraft!"
Wang Genzhi, standing beside them, was so anxious he was sucking air through his teeth. ’Ye Feng, oh, Ye Feng,’ he thought, ’you already stabilized the old man’s condition and made him so much better! That was enough! It was already enough to make George get down and apologize.’
’But you just had to go the extra mile, didn’t you? This time you’ve gone too far. Sigh... still too young, full of hormones and always wanting to show off. Don’t you know there’s a fine line between showing off and making a fool of yourself!’
