Chapter 1284: Chapter 1282: Embarking on a Stable Academic Journey

"Come on, come on, little junior brother, don’t be like those bookworms, only knowing how to read all day long.

That won’t do. What do Undead Mages rely on? Combat!

Just burying yourself in books doesn’t work. When you’ve got time, come out and communicate more with us. Say no more about anything else—once we’re familiar, if something really happens, you think we wouldn’t give you a heads-up?"

After all three dungeons were opened, Gu Xi didn’t rush to leave.

Instead, he started chatting there with the other senior and junior brothers.

This time they were talking about various news related to dungeons and the Game World, as well as some exchanges of Resources and such.

Everyone could talk freely here.

Without Gong Lingyu around, everyone was pretty relaxed.

Through chatting with the seniors, Gu Xi more or less figured out some of the situation here.

Including the three seniors who were already preparing their graduation theses, the seventeen seniors here had actually split into five small groups.

The ones currently pulling Gu Xi aside to talk were from the Combat Faction; what they specialized in was pure combat.

In their words, if an Undead Mage doesn’t kill people, can he still be called an Undead Mage?

So they spent most of their time in the game, leading their Undead underlings slaughtering from one end to the other, then from the other end back again.

Gu Xi had done things like this before too—those so-called Lower Worlds had already been slaughtered by him until nobody was left.

Precisely because of this, the seniors in the Combat Faction thought highly of Gu Xi.

They wanted to pull Gu Xi into their Combat Faction.

In their view, everything comes from combat; what’s the point of thinking about all that other stuff—just kill.

Opposite the Combat Faction was the Reading Society, whom the Combat Faction called bookworms.

This was also the smallest and most scattered of the little groups; the Players here mainly focused on reading. Aside from necessary gaming, they spent most of their time on reading.

You could say they always liked to find their growth direction inside books.

Then there was the Talent Faction, basically a small exchange group formed by three Players with similar Talents.

The Experiment Society, a few Players with wild imaginations who liked to run experiments in their spare time.

Then there was the Trade Group; these few took advantage of the situation in Death City and the caravans to do business between the game and the real world.

Judging from how things were now, their business was really booming.

Once the dungeon started, they used "time is money" as an excuse and were the first to bail.

The Players from the Experiment Society were the second to leave, since they still had a lot of experiments on hand. They’d only come over for a look tomorrow when the dungeon ended, to collect the loot and Resources gained inside.

Right now they had no interest in hanging around here chatting.

Still, they left some contact addresses for Gu Xi; if Gu Xi had any experimentation-related stuff, he could look for them to run tests.

They’d especially heard from Gong Lingyu that Gu Xi was currently working on the Tower of the Undead project.

This project had them somewhat tempted, so they’d taken a few extra looks, and also hoped that if Gu Xi really pulled it off in the future, he’d give them a heads-up.

But friendship is one thing; leaving was another. They still left, and judging by the look of it, they’d only come by again after the dungeon ended tomorrow.

As for the Talent Faction, Gu Xi didn’t have much to say there.

So the only ones left here were the Combat Faction and the Reading Society people.

Gu Xi had actually wanted to find a place to read, but he hadn’t expected the Combat Faction guys to surround him, going on and on about how endless fighting was endlessly fun.

They even wanted to drag Gu Xi into their mini Game World to fight.

In their words, that mini Game World was their battlefield, discovered and captured early on by some of the grad students who’d followed Teacher Gong Lingyu.

That mini Game World counted as the Combat Faction’s base, passed down generation after generation like that.

The biggest feature of this mini Game World was that it could splice in some already abandoned Game Worlds.

That way they could increase the population of the mini Game World.

Only like this would there be enough people in the mini Game World for these Undead Mages to kill.

Sometimes they’d even introduce strong enemies into it to temper themselves.

These Players surrounded Gu Xi, and between the lines their meaning was simply to drag Gu Xi down into the water with them.

In their opinion, as long as someone got through the first battle in this mini Game World, they’d definitely fall in love with this fighting style.

By then he’d be one of the Combat Faction.

The reason Gu Xi was willing to stay and listen was entirely because he was a bit interested in this mini Game World.

Gu Xi really wanted to ask: how many people are in your mini Game World, what Levels are they, and can they all be killed?

While Gu Xi was chatting idly with those people from the Combat Faction—

The Nidans had already gathered information on Gu Xi.

Because the Nidans’ situation was somewhat off-putting, aside from those officials who had to deal with the Nidans, the other Human Players were all unwilling to interact with them.

So their intelligence network was not all that detailed.

There were some pieces of information they simply couldn’t dig out through normal channels.

They could only use their own methods, locking onto targets via their abilities related to fate.

Gu Xi had, for a moment of carelessness, failed to release the White Bone Obelisk, and got locked onto by them.

Now these Nidans had already started plotting against Gu Xi.

In a certain high-rise in Yin City, many Nidans had gathered together.

The leading Nidan said unhappily,

"You guys can’t do this. I’ve said it again and again: our Curses must be underground, must be underground.

And what did you do? You got an empty building—what’s the point of that?

There’s no Earth Qi at all; the moment we perform a ritual, we’ll be discovered immediately."

"Lord Nikudaya, we want an underground space too, but in this part of Yin City, there’s simply no way to dig down. The moment you dig, you get swarmed by a ton of Undead.

We’re Curse Masters, not Undead Mages.

We extract Evil Qi, not life force.

We really can’t help it."

"Forget it, just reel the Soul over. Next time something like this comes up, you guys can handle it yourselves. I am absolutely not doing this kind of thing again."

The Nidan leader shouted loudly, and in front of him, in a Fire Pit, a big cauldron was boiling with some kind of Green liquid.

Next to the cauldron were some rag dolls, White Candles, arrows, and similar items.

"Pour the captured aura in."

Hearing this, a few Nidans nearby began tossing a clump of aura into the cauldron.

This was a wisp of aura they had captured from Gu Xi.

As they threw this aura into the cauldron, the leading Nidan took out a Black top hat and tossed it into the cauldron as well.

"Go hook the Soul. Bring over the Soul belonging to this aura!"
