Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Is This an Official Announcement?
What Wang Chenning hadn’t expected was that his receiving the dragon-patterned medallion would provoke such a strong backlash from Wu Ziyue.
Wu Ziyue told him that in their organization, only people above a certain rank were allowed to carry that medallion.
She had one, but many of her teammates weren’t qualified to receive it.
The fact that Wang Chenning had gotten the medallion after just two treatments for Ling Weiguo would seem unfair to many of her teammates.
"Have you ever considered that your boss is playing the long game?" Wang Chenning asked Wu Ziyue with a cold smirk. "By giving me this small favor, he ensures you can call on me for any injuries or illnesses in the future without feeling indebted. Plus, I can teach you my techniques—both medical and Martial Arts. I bet you’ve already reported to your superiors just how skilled I am, haven’t you? Trading a measly little medallion for all that... wouldn’t you say you guys got the better end of the deal?"
Wu Ziyue was stunned speechless by Wang Chenning’s words for a long moment.
Before she could decide whether to agree or disagree with him, Wang Chenning hit her with an insult: "For a woman, the worst thing is being all bust and no brains!"
"What!" Hearing Wang Chenning call her all bust and no brains, Wu Ziyue instantly flared up. "Are you saying I’m all bust and no brains?"
"Well, you didn’t think of what I just said, and you didn’t think of what I said before you came, either." Wang Chenning ignored her anger and even looked her up and down. "I’m just wondering, is it because you haven’t been on many missions these past two years, or maybe your training intensity hasn’t been high enough, that your... development has been a bit too good? That’s great for a normal woman, but for someone in your line of work, it’s a liability. Don’t look at me like that. I’m just saying, if you need it, I can get your body into peak condition. Not just good-looking, but functional!"
"Alright, alright!" Wang Chenning patted the shoulder of a glaring Wu Ziyue. "Don’t glare at me like that, little girl. You always need to know the difference between a friend and an enemy, or you really will be all bust and no brains. Let’s go. For the next few days, you’re sticking with me, and you’ll do everything I say. No acting up, or I won’t be responsible for what happens!"
With that, Wang Chenning ignored Wu Ziyue’s reaction and started walking toward the parking area on his own.
After fuming for a moment, Wu Ziyue ultimately shouldered her pack and followed Wang Chenning.
Wu Ziyue hadn’t driven; Ling Weiguo had arranged for another team member to drive them.
Wang Chenning told the driver to take them directly to the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The car stopped at the base of the expert’s building.
"You can stay here with me for the next few days," Wang Chenning said, pointing to the third floor. "The university assigned me this apartment. It’s a two-bedroom, one-living-room place. You can take the guest room that doubles as a study."
Wu Ziyue stared coldly at Wang Chenning without moving.
"Don’t overthink it. I’m sure you guys have already run a background check on me. I’m surrounded by beautiful women. Even if I were looking for trouble, I wouldn’t be interested in you. This is just to make the treatment more convenient!"
After saying his piece, Wang Chenning started walking forward.
The look Wu Ziyue gave Wang Chenning was murderous enough to kill. Even with his back to her, he could feel the killing intent rolling off her in waves.
Less than ten seconds after he opened the door and entered his apartment, Wu Ziyue, shouldering her large pack, came in as well.
"Go take a shower first, then we’ll begin the first day of treatment," Wang Chenning said, checking the time. "By the time I’m done with your treatment, it’ll be dinnertime, and I have plans to eat with someone. You can’t eat anything for now. You have to wait at least four hours. I’ll bring you back a late-night snack when I return!"
"Alright," Wu Ziyue replied, no longer arguing. She complied with Wang Chenning’s instructions.
Wu Ziyue was no ordinary woman, after all. Her showering speed was comparable to Wang Chenning’s; she was out of the bathroom in less than ten minutes.
Her attire when she came out gave Wang Chenning a start.
She wore a tight tank top and a pair of boxer briefs, her full bust and long legs displayed plainly before him.
She had a great figure, but the numerous scars crisscrossing her body severely detracted from the overall aesthetic, creating a somewhat chilling sight.
The massive scar that ran from her lower right abdomen to her left shoulder was especially shocking.
"These scars on my body—can they be treated?" Wu Ziyue asked, meeting Wang Chenning’s gaze unflinchingly. "If you can, treat them all at once. I’ll thank you twofold when it’s done."
"They can," Wang Chenning said, glancing at the time. "But that would interfere with my plans tonight. Besides, your body might not be able to handle it all at once. Let’s do it in stages. We’ll treat the scars on your face first. Once your body has had time to recover, I’ll work on the ones on your body. After we do your face, we can treat another area around ten o’clock tonight."
"Okay," Wu Ziyue agreed readily.
Wang Chenning had Wu Ziyue lie down on the small bed in the study/guest room. He then instructed her to keep her eyes and mouth tightly shut and to plug her nostrils with cotton to prevent any blood from getting in.
Wu Ziyue didn’t resist, once again following Wang Chenning’s instructions.
Once the preparations were complete, Wang Chenning began the treatment.
He first performed acupuncture on several points on Wu Ziyue’s face, then took out a sharp scalpel and began to cut away all the old scar tissue.
Although he was meticulous while cutting away the old scars on her face, his movements were swift.
Soon, Wu Ziyue’s face was dripping with blood.
However, because Wang Chenning had performed acupuncture on her acupoints beforehand and injected some anesthetic, Wu Ziyue felt no pain. She couldn’t even feel the warm blood flowing down her face.
It took Wang Chenning over an hour to finish dealing with all the old scars on her face.
After cutting away each scar, Wang Chenning would apply a medicinal powder. Once all the new wounds had been treated, he covered her face with a dressing made of a special material.
As a result, Wu Ziyue’s head was wrapped up as tightly as a zongzi, with only her mouth and nose exposed.
"Go to sleep for about four hours. I’ll definitely be back by then, and we’ll continue with the treatment," he whispered in Wu Ziyue’s ear before continuing with the subsequent steps of her therapy.
A moment later, Wu Ziyue drifted into a deep sleep.
By the time the treatment was finished, Wang Chenning was drenched in sweat. He took a shower, changed his clothes, and left to meet Zhao Xiao’an.
Zhao Xiao’an had said that to express her gratitude, she was treating him to a big dinner tonight, during which she wanted to discuss the specific details of the program’s filming with him.
She had asked him to pick her up from her workplace, as her car was having problems today.
Naturally, Wang Chenning didn’t refuse.
As he was driving near the CCTV station, Zhao Xiao’an called. She said she had to bring some materials down but was too frail to carry them all, so she asked Wang Chenning to come inside and help her.
"I’ve already cleared it with the security guard. Just give him your name and you can come right in."
Sure enough, the security guard didn’t stop Wang Chenning and even enthusiastically gave him directions.
Wang Chenning made his way unimpeded to the eighteenth floor, where Zhao Xiao’an worked.
But to his surprise, the moment he stepped out of the elevator, he was surrounded by a crowd.
Several hosts who looked vaguely familiar—they were probably on TV a lot—came over to greet him, and a few pretty girls with sweet smiles pulled him in for photos.
"Teacher Wang, you’re so handsome," one of the female hosts, a regular on a news program, giggled while posing next to him for a photo. "A famous doctor this young and this good-looking is such a rare sight. No wonder An’an is so happy!"
This left Wang Chenning at a loss for whether to laugh or cry.
Thankfully, Zhao Xiao’an quickly rescued him from the surrounding crowd of handsome men and beautiful women.
What surprised Wang Chenning even more was that while he was sitting and waiting for Zhao Xiao’an to pack up her things, she used a photo a colleague had taken of them to post on Weibo and her Moments.
"This is Dr. Wang’s first time visiting our station. Don’t you all think he’s even more handsome than our own hosts? Even our very own Sister Die and Sister Bingbing were fighting to get a picture with him! Mhmm, looks like your big sister here is having another fangirl moment!"
The moment this Weibo post went live, it immediately attracted countless views and was quickly pushed to the top of Weibo’s trending list.
Yang Xiaofei, Luo Yuqing, Yang Xiaofu, Zheng Qiuhang, and the others also saw the post the moment it appeared...
