Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Stay Away From Me, Men and Women Should Keep Their Distance
If Luo Yaqian didn’t know what Wang Chenning had been up to lately, she would have certainly thought he was a madman.
But Wang Chenning had already proven to the world with his achievements that he was an exceptional man.
So many heavyweights in the world of traditional medicine had been won over by him. Countless old men had sent their most outstanding children and grandchildren to Yandu to become his disciples.
The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine had made a special exception to approve the formation of a team under his leadership and was even preparing to build a laboratory for him.
In just over half a month, he had acquired several significant assets from a few of Yandu’s wealthy scions...
All of this proved that Wang Chenning was an incredibly capable man.
His desire to set his sights on South Korea’s Shanxing Group, his ambition to build an empire with Huo Qubing as his idol—this was definitely not just empty talk.
She was stunned by Wang Chenning’s words.
"You... aren’t you afraid this will cause a huge incident?"
"Not at all. We’re setting out to do something big, so why would we be afraid of causing a stir?" Wang Chenning said with a laugh. "Besides, we will use legal means to achieve our goals!"
"Can you explain your idea in detail to Aunt Luo?" Luo Yaqian’s focus had now shifted from Wang Chenning’s attitude toward relationships to the matter at hand.
"Aunt Luo, I’m very sorry," Wang Chenning politely declined. "I can’t reveal the details at this time."
"Very well." Luo Yaqian didn’t press the issue.
Wang Chenning then explained his joint project with Luo Yuqing and his method of collaboration with Yang Xiaofei. Then he asked her, "Do you know why I didn’t partner with Xiao’an?"
Luo Yaqian was a very intelligent woman. From Wang Chenning’s question, she immediately knew the answer.
’There’s no need for formal ’cooperation’ between a husband and wife. You only need collaborative plans with outsiders.’
But she didn’t want to answer his question. In silence, she turned her gaze out the window.
Wang Chenning didn’t pursue the topic either, instead bringing up Zhao Jiefang’s medical condition.
He told Luo Yaqian that with conventional treatment and recuperation, Zhao Jiefang could only hold on for another five or six years at most.
In the worst-case scenario, his lamp of life would run dry in two or three years, and his journey would come to an end.
"But if I continue to manage his health, I can guarantee that, barring any accidents, he will live to be over a hundred. By accidents, I mean things like being poisoned, getting into a car crash, or being hit by a falling object." Wang Chenning’s voice was nonchalant. "I’m sure Aunt Luo understands his value to the Zhao family better than I do."
Wang Chenning was, in fact, quite irritated by Luo Yaqian’s aggressive questioning earlier. That’s why he was now being so blunt and direct.
Luo Yaqian shot Wang Chenning a surprised glance, but in the end, she simply nodded without a word.
The car soon arrived at the Zhao family’s ancestral home.
After parking, Wang Chenning got out of the car, carrying his medical kit.
Zhao Jiefang’s secretary, Huang Yajun, came out to greet them. After a brief greeting, Wang Chenning headed toward where Zhao Jiefang was.
The afternoon sun was pleasant, and Zhao Jiefang was still in the courtyard, enjoying the warmth.
"Grandpa Zhao, I’ve come for your treatment!" Wang Chenning said with a wide smile as he sat down beside Zhao Jiefang. "You’re looking quite well today!"
"Ever since I started your treatments, I’ve felt much more energetic!" Zhao Jiefang was also beaming. He looked at Wang Chenning, then at his daughter-in-law, Luo Yaqian, and said with a double meaning, "Ah, Xiaowang, you are far more outstanding than I ever imagined. No one in your generation can compare to you!"
"Thank you for the praise, Grandpa Zhao!" Wang Chenning gestured toward Luo Yaqian. "I’ll start your treatment now. I need to give Aunt Luo a conditioning treatment later as well."
"Excellent!" Zhao Jiefang agreed readily, asking Huang Yajun to help him into a more comfortable position.
After a quick examination, Wang Chenning immediately began the acupuncture treatment.
For this session, he had soaked the silver needles in a special medicinal solution for a long time.
Huang Yajun wanted to ask what the solution was, but after a couple of glances at Zhao Jiefang, he kept his question to himself.
Wang Chenning treated Zhao Jiefang for over an hour. By the time he finished, Zhao Jiefang’s complexion was even ruddier than before, and the light in his eyes was brighter.
He felt much better himself. As Wang Chenning packed up his equipment, Zhao Jiefang offered his sincere thanks.
As Wang Chenning was finishing up, Zhao Jiefang spoke again. "I hear you’ll be visiting South Korea and Japan in a few days. How about this: before you leave the country, come and treat me one more time. We can have a proper chat then. I have some important matters to discuss with you."
"Of course," Wang Chenning readily agreed. "I will be sure to come and listen to your wisdom."
After giving Zhao Jiefang a new prescription, Wang Chenning took his leave.
"The old man had something he wanted to say to you, but he held off because I was there," Luo Yaqian said quietly after they got back in the car. "He really does think highly of you."
"Perhaps Grandpa Zhao just thinks I’m very useful," Wang Chenning chuckled. "I just hope he doesn’t decide to use me as a pawn!"
Wang Chenning’s words sent a jolt of alarm through Luo Yaqian.
She hadn’t expected Wang Chenning to have sensed this already, even without having a detailed conversation with Zhao Jiefang.
’This young man is truly perceptive. He won’t be easy to fool.’
To Wang Chenning’s surprise, Luo Yaqian had brought him to Luo Yuqing’s residence.
Wang Chenning froze for a moment when Luo Yaqian knocked on the door and Luo Yuqing’s head popped out.
He’d never been to this villa before, but he could tell it was a place Luo Yuqing frequented.
After Wang Chenning followed Luo Yaqian into the villa, Luo Yaqian went to take a shower.
"What did the old man say to you?" Once Luo Yaqian was in the shower, Luo Yuqing cozied up to Wang Chenning and whispered, "And what did my sister say to you?"
"Nothing much." Wang Chenning said, surveying the villa’s decor. "This is a pretty luxurious house."
"Hmph, so stingy," Luo Yuqing huffed, rolling her eyes. "If you want to come hang out, I can just bring you next time. I’ll make sure to get rid of my caretakers beforehand."
Wang Chenning ignored her and started scrolling through his phone.
"Why are you being so obnoxious!" Luo Yuqing was getting angry. "You won’t even talk to me?"
"Aren’t you afraid your sister will notice something?" Wang Chenning edged away. "Keep your distance. A man and a woman should maintain their propriety."
"Is there any part of me you haven’t touched? And you’re going to lecture me about propriety?" Luo Yuqing looked like she wanted to hit him. After glaring daggers at him, she asked, a little puzzled, "What’s wrong? Did something set you off?"
Wang Chenning countered, "What did your sister say to you? And what did you say to her?"
"Nothing!" Luo Yuqing threw up her hands, feigning innocence. "What did she say to you?"
"Don’t play games behind my back," Wang Chenning warned her. "And don’t try to plot against me. The thing I hate most is being manipulated by women."
The color drained from Luo Yuqing’s face. "What exactly did my sister say to you?"
"She questioned why I’m so close to both you and Yang Xiaofei." Wang Chenning decided to embellish a little.
’The fact that Luo Yaqian had brought him here, and Luo Yuqing hadn’t warned him beforehand... he sensed something was off.’
’He had a feeling these two sisters were up to no good.’
’They were probably plotting against him together, so he decided to vent a little.’
Luo Yuqing’s expression flickered. Facing Wang Chenning’s hostile gaze, she finally lowered her head and mumbled, "My sister asked me to help her—to help the Zhao family—win you over to their side. And I agreed."
