Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Results
Wang Chenning never expected Yang Xiaofu to burst in and create such a scandalous scene. He was instantly mortified.
Luckily, he reacted quickly, pulling Yang Xiaofu into his room and shutting the door.
"Brother Ning, you’re so rough!" Instead of struggling, Yang Xiaofu hugged Wang Chenning even tighter. "But I like it when you’re like this!"
"Yang Xiaofu, have you lost your mind?" Wang Chenning demanded, tossing her onto the bed. He then let loose a tirade. "Are you running a fever this early in the morning? Did a donkey kick you in the head?"
"Brother Ning, you yelled at me!" Yang Xiaofu pouted, looking deeply wronged. "You were in Seoul and Tokyo for so many days and didn’t show me any affection. Then you came back and just disappeared, never coming to see me. I take the initiative to come to you, and this is how you treat me? I’m angry!"
Seeing her act this way, Wang Chenning got angry too.
However, he didn’t bother explaining anything. Instead, he gave her a forceful kiss.
After kissing her until she was nearly breathless, Wang Chenning pulled her to her feet. "Get back to class. Haven’t you seen all the negative press about me online? Are you trying to add fuel to the fire? I’m telling you, if any more stories like this get out, I’m blaming you. Now go. I’ll come find you when the time is right, got it?"
"I got it!" After that fierce kiss from Wang Chenning, all of Yang Xiaofu’s resentment vanished. She became completely docile. "I promise I won’t cause you any trouble. I’ll be good!"
With that, she gave Wang Chenning a quick kiss and then cheerfully ran off.
After Yang Xiaofu was gone, Lei Danyun and Wu Ziyue emerged from their hiding spot.
"Scumbag," Lei Danyun said, giving Wang Chenning a look of utter contempt.
"That’s right, I’m a scumbag! Don’t you forget it." Wang Chenning shrugged it off and said with a grin to Wu Ziyue, who wore a complicated expression, "Cherish your life; stay away from scumbags!"
Wu Ziyue rolled her eyes at Wang Chenning, her lovely lips forming a slight pout as if she felt deeply wronged.
"Do as you please. I have to get to a meeting," Wang Chenning said, clearly dismissing them. "I’ll be teaching a one-hour class for you at three-thirty today. If you can’t make it for some reason, let me know in advance."
With that, he paid the two women no more mind, gathered his things, and left.
The exchange delegation’s debriefing session was scheduled for that morning. After the meeting, the delegation would be formally disbanded, and everyone would return to their respective jobs or schools.
Wu Jingyi was as competent as ever, having already prepared all the necessary presentation materials for Wang Chenning.
As expected, Wang Chenning was the star of the show at this debriefing.
He was the first to take the stage and give his report.
Wang Chenning recounted the events of the trip: the cultural showdown with the faculty and students of Seoul University, the medical competition against Pu Zhengyang and his disciple, and how he had won the respect of Tian Zhongxin and the entire traditional medical community of Japan.
His account was met with continuous applause.
Zhao Xiao’an couldn’t make it to the meeting because she was on another reporting assignment.
Several of her colleagues were there to cover the event. They took some photos and videos and sent them to Zhao Xiao’an, who then reposted them on her Weibo account with the caption: "Perhaps one day, we’ll be able to say that Teacher Wang is the foremost authority in Huaxia’s traditional medicine, and the foremost authority in traditional medicine worldwide. We eagerly await that day!"
In addition to Zhao Xiao’an’s Weibo post, many of the teachers and students in attendance also posted photos and videos to their social media accounts.
And so, Wang Chenning’s achievements from the trip once again became a hot topic.
Many people were proud of his accomplishments, saying that before Wang Chenning, no famous expert in traditional medicine had ever so thoroughly dominated the traditional medical communities of South Korea and Japan.
Regardless of his other faults, this achievement alone was enough to earn him a brilliant Chapter in the annals of history and medical development. Many people agreed with this sentiment. Even some female netizens commented that even if Wang Chenning really was a scumbag, a man who could achieve such things was still a great man, scumbag or not.
After Wang Chenning finished his report, Wu Jingyi immediately updated him on the online response.
"Starting this morning, the negative news about you online has slowly started to disappear. A few of the original posts have been taken down, or edited and deleted by their original posters."
"Most netizens are on your side, even with those other posts still up!" Wu Jingyi said, looking quite pleased. "Everyone is saying you’re an amazing person and that you’ve made a huge contribution to the development of traditional medicine!"
Wang Chenning smiled. "It’s too early to be talking about huge contributions. Let’s wait a few years. Maybe then, saying something like that would be more fitting."
Zhang Manxin, who was nearby, happened to film him saying this. She posted the video to her social media and Weibo. To her surprise, many people on Weibo reposted it, and it quickly shot to the top of the trending topics.
"Teacher Wang is so humble! He’s accomplished so much, yet he still says he hasn’t made a huge contribution!"
"I’m really looking forward to Teacher Wang’s new research. I hope he and his team can overcome one challenge after another and bring hope to many patients with terminal illnesses!"
"I hope Mr. Wang wins the Nobel Prize in Medicine in a few years! That would mean our traditional medicine has truly gone global and earned worldwide recognition!"
Zhang Manxin was overjoyed that her post had gotten so much attention. Her previously unknown account had even gained several hundred thousand followers.
She added her own comment under the post: "I’m one of Teacher Wang’s female disciples. To be honest, all of us disciples deeply admire him, but he’s like a modern-day saint, a perfect gentleman who is completely unfazed by our beauty and talent. If a man like him is a scumbag, then there isn’t a single man in the world who isn’t!"
Beneath this comment, Zhang Manxin posted a photo of herself with Wang Chenning, as well as a solo picture.
Zhang Manxin was already gorgeous, with an outstanding figure, but after applying a beauty filter, the photos were absolutely stunning.
As a result, she instantly went viral, attracting a crowd of onlookers and admirers.
"Wow, what a beauty! One look and it feels like first love all over again!"
"You think Teacher Wang ever considered pulling some ’unspoken rules’ on this hottie?"
"All I can say is, Teacher Wang has seriously high standards. Makes you wonder which beauty he’ll end up choosing!"
When Wang Chenning saw these ridiculous comments, he didn’t know whether to be angry or amused.
He ignored the online chatter and simply posted a message to his social media feed: "Starting tomorrow, I will resume my normal teaching and clinical duties. I will be extending my weekly teaching and patient hours. Thank you all for your understanding and support!"
As the meeting concluded, Wang Chenning received a call from Wu Ziyue. She told him they had already identified the likely suspects behind the slander campaign against him.
He also had messages on his phone from Luo Yuqing, Zhao Xiao’an, and Yang Xiaofei. They all said the same thing: their investigations were starting to yield some solid leads.
