Chapter 354: Let’s Cancel the Engagement

For the next two days, Wang Chenning remained busy.

Every day, he had to teach his students, a large group of disciples who required at least two hours of instruction. He also had to make time to treat Ling Weiguo, Lei Danyun, Wu Ziyue, and their comrades-in-arms, all while carefully arranging his schedule to spend time with several women.

'Good thing I have a strong constitution, or else how could I possibly keep up?'

While treating Ling Weiguo, Wang Chenning mentioned that he had been helping Lei Danyun, Wu Ziyue, and the others improve their physical abilities, as well as treating the injuries of other team members.

Wang Chenning told Ling Weiguo that after he treated Lei Danyun and Wu Ziyue, their reaction times had improved significantly. If all the team members received this kind of treatment, their overall combat effectiveness would definitely increase.

But Wang Chenning also stated frankly that he couldn't help with that for the time being. Not only would it be too physically demanding, but he also couldn't find the time.

"Let's take it slow," Ling Weiguo said, not pushing the matter. "It's already great that the combat strength of these few core members has improved!"

"Aren't you just trying to get Wu Ziyue to work for you?" Ling Weiguo saw right through Wang Chenning's little scheme. "As long as you can help us train a few more outstanding fighters, you can have her help you with whatever you want."

"I'm not in a hurry," Wang Chenning said, shaking his head. "We can talk about it when the time is right."

"If you need it, and they don't have a mission, you can have them help you privately," Ling Weiguo informed Wang Chenning of a decision in a low voice. "But it's limited to things that don't break any rules and are beneficial to the country. You can't involve them in personal conflicts."

"I understand!" Wang Chenning nodded with a chuckle. "When I need it, I'll have them help!"

After about a month of Wang Chenning's treatment, Ling Weiguo's physical condition had changed remarkably.

He had regained the basic ability to move freely, and his coordination had improved a great deal.

It could only be described as a miracle. Not only was Ling Weiguo overjoyed, but those who were monitoring his progress were also pleasantly surprised.

After Wang Chenning asked how he was feeling, examined him, and performed another treatment, Ling Weiguo expressed his gratitude once again.

He said that Wang Chenning had given him a second life.

He told Wang Chenning that several of the security personnel around Bai Qianxun and Ma Guoping were former members of his team who had been recruited after retirement. Hu Wencheng is Zhang Guoping's older male cousin. Both are over thirty and are more deliberate in their actions."

Ling Weiguo told Wang Chenning that he would have someone deliver this information to him later.

"Then thank you, Uncle Ling!" Wang Chenning accepted gladly.

On his way back from Ling Weiguo's place, Wang Chenning received a call from Yang Xiaofei.

"Are you free? I'd like to treat you to dinner and chat about something."

Hearing the gentle tone in Yang Xiaofei's voice, Wang Chenning asked with a smile, "Did something good happen?"

"Good things happen every day, and so do bad things. I'm long past being fazed by any of it." Yang Xiaofei told Wang Chenning that she would have dinner prepared and he could just come directly to her villa.

"Alright," Wang Chenning agreed.

When Wang Chenning drove his very low-key Ford Edge SUV to the luxurious residential complex where Yang Xiaofei lived, he was, as expected, stopped by the security guard at the gate.

However, the security guard didn't give Wang Chenning a hard time. After seeing his face, he immediately let him through.

Wang Chenning wasn't just handsome; he was handsome in a very distinctive way.

He had high exposure on the internet these days, so anyone who had seen his photo would be able to recognize him.

"Why are you driving a car like this?" Yang Xiaofei asked, looking at him with a strange expression as he got out of the Ford Edge. "Where's your luxury sports car?"

"I don't like that car," Wang Chenning admitted honestly. "I gave it to Zheng Qiuhang to drive. This is the car I drove when I was in Chang'an, and I still think it's pretty good."

Yang Xiaofei looked at Wang Chenning, speechless. "You sure treat Zheng Qiuhang well!"

"She works for me, and she's very dedicated—her work is practically flawless. Of course I have to treat her well," Wang Chenning replied with a chuckle. "I'm short on diligent people who can work for me. When I find one, I'll definitely treat them well, regardless of whether they're male or female."

Yang Xiaofei said plaintively, "You treat everyone else so well, just not me."

"It seems like the others say the same thing. Are all women like this?" Wang Chenning still had a chuckle on his face. "What, did you call me over today just to complain like this?"

"No," Yang Xiaofei said, shaking her head. "I want to talk about our engagement contract."

Wang Chenning was a little surprised, but he nodded anyway. "Whatever you're thinking, just say it."

"How about... we cancel our engagement contract?" Yang Xiaofei said, looking at Wang Chenning with a calm gaze. "This engagement has put too much pressure on me."

"Oh?" Wang Chenning was even more surprised, but he didn't ask any questions, waiting for Yang Xiaofei to continue.

After a moment of contemplation, Yang Xiaofei continued, "What you said before made a lot of sense. Happiness in a marriage can't be bound by a piece of paper. Without the constraints of an engagement contract, we might get along better. If there really comes a day when we both want to spend our lives together, we won't need a contract to become a family, don't you think?"

Wang Chenning asked in return, "Have you talked to your grandfather about this?"

"Yes," Yang Xiaofei nodded. "He agrees with my idea. As it happens, your grandfather is around too. Since we're the two people involved, we should all sit down together later, talk it over, and cancel the engagement."

"Alright." After looking at Yang Xiaofei for a moment, Wang Chenning finally nodded. "We'll do it your way, then."
