She soon received a reply from Wang Chenning: "My sofa still has your scent on it, and it smells wonderful! I’ll have to come to your place again sometime to take in your scent for a while longer!"

This message made Lin Anning even more ecstatic. She cradled her phone, staring at it for a while with a dazed, lovesick expression.

On the drive home, she carefully replayed the entire course of her acquaintance and interactions with Wang Chenning.

She thought about the day they became intimate—about Wang Chenning’s dominance, and the overwhelming bliss that followed, which left her completely defenseless.

Amid her shy and sweet feelings, she asked herself, ’Did I already like this man, even before all this?’

Lost in thought, she nearly scraped another car on the road.

Finally, she found a place to park and called for her bodyguard to drive her the rest of the way home.

She didn’t go straight to her own place, however. She went to report to her grandfather.

Her grandfather, Lin Qiushou, was already in bed and ready to sleep, but when he heard Lin Anning had arrived, he still had her come in to speak with him.

After Lin Anning told him about the day’s events, Lin Qiushou nodded. "That boy is certainly no ordinary person. Judging from his past actions, he should be able to deliver on his promises. If he wants to see me, then bring him here. As for the Lin family working with him, you can sound him out first. I’ll discuss the specifics with him personally when the time comes."

"Yes, Grandpa!" Lin Anning agreed happily. "He’s already promised me he’s willing to come and examine you."

Lin Qiushou, however, sighed. "Ningning, I heard from your brother that you and Annian have had frequent run-ins with him?"

Lin Anning breathed a sigh of relief at her grandfather’s words.

Lin Qiushou continued, "If I’m not mistaken, he’s the mastermind behind everything that’s happened in Yandu recently."

"Grandpa, are you saying that Bai Qianxun, Zhang Guoping, Wu Linhan, and my brother all being targeted... that was all Wang Chenning’s doing?"

"I’m quite sure of it," Lin Qiushou nodded. "If it was indeed him, or done on his orders, then his cunning is truly on another level. His abilities completely eclipse everyone else’s."

Lin Anning didn’t know what to say.

Lin Qiushou stared at Lin Anning for a moment before giving her a solemn warning. "Ningning, I want you to remember one thing. It’s fine to fall in love with him, but do not even think about marrying him. Anything is fine between you two, as long as it’s not marriage. Do you understand? If you become his wife, you will undoubtedly be miserable. You will be hurt beyond repair. But as long as you are not his wife, you will be fortunate for the rest of your life!"

Lin Anning stood there, stunned, looking at her grandfather in utter disbelief.

’Does that mean... we could remain lovers forever? That I could even have his children, and it would be okay?’
