Chapter 484: Chapter 484: Being Looked Down Upon
In the end, Wang Chenning paid 180, and the middle-aged man’s family paid 300, settling the bill.
After paying, the middle-aged man and his family immediately bolted. The other table of customers fled without even paying.
Wang Chenning and Yang Xiaofu didn’t leave. Instead, they remained seated, bold as brass, drinking their tea.
"Huh? You guys didn’t call the police?" After they had been sitting for ten or so minutes and no officers had shown up, Wang Chenning asked in surprise. "Want us to make the call?"
"Hero, we don’t dare call the police!" The fat boss paled in terror. "We won’t dare to do it again! From now on, we’ll run a legitimate business, I swear!"
"Alright, we’ll call them then." Wang Chenning pulled out his phone, ready to dial.
With a THUD, the fat boss dropped to his knees in front of Wang Chenning, pleading desperately. "Hero, please, don’t call the police! We’ll run a legitimate business from now on, I promise!"
’He’d just beaten them up, yet not only did they not dare to call the police, they were actively stopping him from doing so. Something was definitely fishy here.’
But Wang Chenning didn’t press the issue. With a soft chuckle, he motioned to Yang Xiaofu. "Let’s go."
Yang Xiaofu agreed readily and linked her arm through Wang Chenning’s as they walked out of the restaurant.
"They must have recognized you," Yang Xiaofu whispered once they were outside. "They know you’re too influential. They can’t win against someone with your power, so they just decided to cut their losses."
"Still, we need to clean up our own mess." Wang Chenning pulled out his phone and called Chang Qingfeng. He gave him a quick rundown of the situation and added, "I’m sure you can handle a small thing like this."
"No problem!" Chang Qingfeng replied immediately. "I’ll get someone on it."
About ten minutes later, Chang Qingfeng called back. He said he’d already spoken to the right people, and they promised to handle the matter properly.
"They were furious that a clip joint like that was still operating in the suburbs, especially since it’s apparently been there for a while. They’re going to launch a full investigation."
"Good," Wang Chenning said, leaving it at that.
The little episode at the restaurant didn’t dampen their spirits. In fact, it only made Yang Xiaofu more excited.
"Brother Ning, you looked so handsome when you were fighting. No wonder Zhao Xiao’an is always fangirling over you!"
"So, are you fangirling too?"
"Of course!" Yang Xiaofu squeezed his arm tighter, not minding how her ample figure pressed against him. "I’ve been fangirling since the first time I met you. I thought to myself, ’How can a man this handsome exist in the world?’ It’s not just that you’re handsome; you have this special charisma. You’re absolute poison to women."
Wang Chenning laughed. "So, does that mean you intentionally stepped on your bathrobe to make it fall off the first time we met?"
It took Yang Xiaofu a moment to understand what he meant, and she flushed with indignant embarrassment. "Of course not! I was terrified back then. I didn’t even get a good look at your face. I was in such a panic that I ended up making a fool of myself. By the way, Brother Ning... when you saw me like that, did you have any... ideas?"
"Nope." Wang Chenning smiled. "My first thought was, ’This girl probably hasn’t been properly cherished by a man before.’"
"You’re terrible!" Yang Xiaofu pinched him. "You’re so awful!"
She was about to say more when Wang Chenning’s phone rang, forcing her to swallow her words.
After Wang Chenning finished his call, Yang Xiaofu didn’t feel like bringing the topic up again.
Around four-thirty, Yang Xiaofu suggested they head back.
The drive back would take over forty minutes, so if they left now, they would arrive just in time for her classmate’s birthday party.
Wang Chenning didn’t want to be recognized, so before getting into the car, he tweaked his appearance. He restyled his hair, letting it fall to cover his forehead, and put on a pair of large-framed glasses that obscured half his face.
The disguise hid most of his handsome features. At first glance, it was genuinely hard to tell who he was.
Yang Xiaofu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she also found his getup rather amusing.
By the time they drove to the luxurious hotel where the party was being held, it was already past five-thirty.
Traffic was heavy at that hour, so the drive took longer than expected.
They got lucky—a parking spot right near the hotel entrance opened up just as they arrived.
As the other car pulled out, Wang Chenning quickly backed into the space.
As soon as they got out of the car, someone called out to Yang Xiaofu. "Xiaofu, over here!"
Gift in hand, Yang Xiaofu hurried over.
Wang Chenning trailed a couple of steps behind. He stopped to reply when a message came in on his phone.
The message was from Yang Xiaofei. As Wang Chenning typed his reply, he grumbled to himself, ’Women are so much trouble.’
After sending the message, he made a quick call to Zhao Xiao’an. It was best to appease all these women now to avoid any drama later.
"Qingxia, happy birthday!" Yang Xiaofu handed her gift to the pretty birthday girl and gave her a hug.
"Xiaofu, you came alone?!"
As Yang Xiaofu and the birthday girl, Wu Qingxia, were bantering, a flashily dressed pretty woman walked over with a handsome man on her arm. "Didn’t you say you were bringing a date?"
"He’s over there, on the phone," Yang Xiaofu said, pointing in Wang Chenning’s direction.
The flashy woman introduced the handsome man beside her to the group. "This is my boyfriend, Mo Qingyang, from the Mo family!"
Yang Xiaofu glanced at the man’s arrogant expression and gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.
Just then, Wang Chenning walked over.
"Xiaofu, is this your boyfriend?" the flashy woman asked, looking Wang Chenning up and down. He was dressed plainly and wore a pair of huge, ugly glasses. "Don’t tell me you picked up some poor nobody."
Yang Xiaofu just smiled, preparing to introduce Wang Chenning to Wu Qingxia and the couple.
"No need for introductions," the man, Mo Qingyang, said unexpectedly, his expression full of pride. "I won’t remember his name anyway. We’re just here to eat, that’s all."
