Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 135: Kanan’s first adventure
It would be a lie if Kanan had said that he wasn’t excited to leave the village. He liked his home, loved hanging out with his friends and family, and enjoyed the atmosphere it had. But that was nothing in comparison to leaving the village borders.
Hunting was fine and all, but it didn’t have the same thrill. And when Kanan and Risha made their way to the Canyon, just an hour or two past the Nemean Tribe’s borders, he felt the thrill of exploring even further.
There was also one thing that tugged at his brain, and that was the lack of system points.
After the destruction of the Flesh Plant and Verminus Plant, Kanan expected to be rewarded with points, but that wasn’t the case at all.
The system categorized the threat as one, meaning he had to kill the plant in the Helsik Tribe as well.
"Okay, okay, calm down, Alue, you’re fine, you’re fine. It’s okay. You’re with friends, and they can protect you against any monsters or beasts. It’s going to be okay." Judging by the way Alue kept looking around and jumping at any sudden sound, he was not going to be okay.
"Alue," Reda sighed, "You’re clearly scared. You don’t have to act like you’re not."
"B-But I’m not scared. I’m fine, completely fine. I’m braver than a-AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The shadow of a cloud caused Alue to jump onto Kanan’s head as if he were a cat.
"Dude, you’re scared of shadows now?" Kanan asked
"N-No!" Getting down, Alue continued to walk.
"Hahaha! This is great! I finally get to put my skills to the test! Come at me, monsters! I’ll slay any creature that comes my way! The Great Terin shall reign at the top of the world!"
"If you’re at the top of the world, where would Kanan be?" Fera asked
"Hmm. Good question. Kanan, I have decided to make you reign at the top of the world, and I will be your second in command." Terin felt as if that was good enough.
"Thanks, I guess. But this isn’t a fun adventure. We’re on a mission, so keep your guard up, okay?"
"Kanan, you can’t tell me that you aren’t excited to leave the village, right?"
Kanan looked around, seeing nothing but an open field with tons of grass. He had no idea why he did this, seeing as the group was a good distance away from the village already, but he still felt as if it was a necessary action.
"Ahem, I am extremely excited to leave the village."
"Haha! I knew it! You’re just like me, man! Nature is where our home is. It’s calling to us. Here, eat a poisonous plant."
Kanan declined. "I’m good."
"Heh, more for me." Terin stuffed his face full of poisonous plants.
Lopis walked up to Kanan and tugged at his arm to get his attention.
"Hmm? Do you need something, Lopis?"
"Do you know how long it will take to reach the Helsik Tribe?"
"Unfortunately, I don’t. I was told to head north until the swamp came into view. So, we’ll be seeing how long this takes for ourselves."
"Good thing we packed a lot of food and water," Reda said excitedly
Kanan also made sure to pack other items of convenience as well, such as poison antidotes. He even stocked up on a lot more food and water in his inventory to ensure that they were able to survive the journey.
He had never seen his inventory so full of multiple items before.
"I wonder what the Helsik Tribe is like. I hope they’re welcoming." Reda began to wonder, thinking about her experience with the Typhon tribe before they became allies.
Fera wondered the same. It wasn’t common to visit other villages unless they were friends for generations or were enemies. This world was still under the laws of survival of the fittest, so war over resources was extremely common.
Thankfully, the Nemean Tribe was located a great distance away from the other tribes, save the Typhon Tribe, and was able to survive for thousands of years without needing to worry about a third party coming in to add to their turmoil.
"We can’t be too careful, especially with how convenient our timing is." Kanan had spoken with the Elders and wondered if they should delay their expedition since the Verminus Plant was also ransacking the Helsik Tribe.
But they declined, stating that they would most likely be desperate for aid instead.
It made sense, but Kanan still would be on his guard. He didn’t want to lead his friends to their deaths, and would do anything to ensure their survival.
"I agree. But I’ve brought this along, so hopefully they will have an easier time trusting us." Lopis took out a stone carved with an unfamiliar pattern.
"That’s not our design." Alue had noticed
"No, it’s a Helsik design. One of my ancestors is from that tribe."
"Oh wow, that’s really cool. You have blood ties to another tribe! They’d better welcome us now!" Terin flew into the sky and started doing loops for fun.
"If they don’t, then we’ll set up camp close to the Helsik Tribe and investigate the Verminus Plant. Regardless of how we’re treated, we still have to make sure this plant is destroyed." Kanan wanted to be done with the Verminus Plant as soon as possible.
Terin landed and saluted Kanan by placing his fist on his chest. "You got it, captain!"
The group continued their journey, traveling until the sun began to set. They talked about a lot of things, such as what they’d been up to lately.
Though they were all close, they hadn’t had that much time to spend together as they wanted, their duties getting in the way of things. But now, it reminded them of their training together and the bond they shared.
Soon, it was time for them to set up camp, Alue making a small fortress of plants while Fera created a forcefield around it, and their powers being amplified by Kanan.
Lopis took the first watch, stating that there was a lot on her mind and she wouldn’t be able to sleep until she collected her thoughts.
"Sounds good. Wake us up if anything happens. If not, then wake me up for the next shift." Kanan instructed her.
"Okay, I will."
