Chapter 142: You aren’t welcomed here!

Kanan had nearly forgotten what the uprooter plant was, looking at the council with a confused expression before he realized what they were talking about.

"No, none of us have been infected by it," Kanan reassured them. Though their reaction to his response didn’t seem to indicate that they believed him.

"If you are sure that you’ve never been infected, then you would have no issues with our healer checking you, correct?" The chieftess asked

He wanted to decline, Kanan, but he knew that it would look weird if he didn’t. His knowledge about the cure did cross his mind, but that wasn’t anything they needed to be aware of for the time being.

Their relationship wasn’t at the level where he could give them information that vital to survival, so he planned on testing the waters first.

"As it pertains to your people’s safety, you are free to do whatever makes you feel safer." Kanan extended his arms, inviting the healer to check his body.

The chieftess signaled to one of the council members, who stood up and approached Kanan. He was gritting his teeth, clearly not intrigued by the appearance of the Nemean Tribe.

"He’s clean." The healer snorted, moving on to Lopis.

As he checked her body, his eyes glanced all over, even moving his hand closer to her chest, acting as if he needed to check her bosom.

Right before he could grope her, Kanan placed his hand on the man’s shoulder.

"I’m sure the Helsik Tribe is full of honorable people, but so far, my opinion of your people has been very sour. Unless you wish for that to continue, I’d suggest you keep your hands to yourself before you end up losing them."

There were weirdo’s everywhere, even in the Nemean Tribe, and they were dealt with accordingly, aka, death. But this wasn’t his home, so Kanan couldn’t do as he pleased. Though he was positive his warning was taken seriously, seeing how the healer ended his assessment of the others rather quickly.

Kanan also wanted to prevent Lopis from killing him, already sensing her shadows moving with killing intent.

Returning to his chair, the Chieftess gave the healer a nasty look as if she was telling him that she would deal with him later.

"I apologize for my healer’s actions, as well as for the late introductions. I am Chieftess Loknya. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, warriors of the Nemean Tribe."

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well. I am Kanan."

Everyone went on to introduce themselves before they began talking about the reasons why Kanan and his friends came to this tribe in the first place.

’So the other woman on this council is named Galrah and is a warrior. The healer is named Riklok, and the other man, a hunter, is named Eshem.’

"Now that these introductions are out of the way, what brings you six here? Hunter Carl tells me that you all came here to warn us?" Chieftess Loknya asked

"Or attempt to take over our tribe while we’re weak." Riklok hissed. He was still pissed off at Kanan and didn’t like how he was looked down on.

The Chieftess glared at the healer once more, her patience running thin. "Quiet, Riklok. Please speak, Kanan."

"You see, back in our village, we’ve dealt with the...Uprooter Plant. We call it the Verminus Plant. I don’t know how much you know of the plant, but they are able to revive the dead and use spirit energy."

The chief and elders leaned forward in their seats, some even slamming their hands on the table when Kanan revealed such information.

It was clear as day that none of them were aware of this ability.

"Are you sure?!" Loknya asked. "You’re not mistaken, are you?"

"We’ve recently battled against an army of corpses that numbered in the thousands. They were all wiped out, fire being the most effective method. As we killed the main mind of the Verminius...Uprooter Plant, it mentioned this tribe, saying that it was here as well. So we came to deal with it."

"If what you’re saying is true, then this issue is more serious than I thought. We’re already aware that the Uprooter can possess the body of beasts, but to take over corpses and use spirit energy...this information needs to be relayed to all of our warriors and hunters." Loknya told her guards to do just that.

"What do you wish to gain by helping us?" Galrah questioned. She had never taken her eyes off Kanan and saw him as a serious threat. He was so young, yet she didn’t even know if she would be able to take him on.

"Well, our mission first and foremost is to eliminate the Uprooter Plant. Anything else is a bonus, really. A good relationship with your Tribe is something we would greatly accept. This includes trade, of course."

Loknya nodded. Kanan’s answer made sense, but there was something that she didn’t really understand. Their intent. Sure, Kanan told them the reason why they were here, but she wondered why the Nemean Tribe even cared about them in the first place.

While it was framed nicely, Loknya felt as if there was some other reason for the six warriors to seek out their people.

"I’m sure you six are here with good intentions, but in truth, we cannot simply trust your words completely."

"You’re not welcome here!" Riklok blurted out. "Carl told us that you took over the Typhon Tribe, taking their land as your own via conquest of your god! You plan to do the same thing to us, don’t you?!"

"Riklok!" Loknya shouted

"No, no. For once, I agree with Riklok." Galrah smirked. "Tell us, Kanan, what you’re really here for?"

’Hmm. Maybe lying to Carl wasn’t the right idea. He made it seem as if we were crazy, war-hungry people eager to conquer other tribes. Then again, I did phrase it like that, huh?’

"Hmm, I guess that does look bad, huh? Well, I guess telling you all the truth won’t hurt."
