Chapter 349: Chapter: 348 Bratty goddess.

Ian and Destiny took off toward the eastern continent, leaving the battlefield far behind them.

The journey itself was uneventful, though for Ian, even flying had become an exhausting ordeal.

His body was still suffering from the punishment Destiny had inflicted upon him, and the injuries he had accumulated before that had never properly healed.

The flames of destruction continued to burn faintly within his soul while the curse of time relentlessly consumed what remained of his lifespan.

Under normal circumstances, crossing such a distance would have been nothing to him, but now even maintaining himself in the air was a burden, leaving him with no choice but to rely on Destiny.

Eventually, Destiny descended toward the ground while carrying him. Ian said nothing throughout the journey, though his expression remained dark as he wondered what exactly was going through the woman’s head.

The moment her feet touched the ground, Destiny looked around the unfamiliar surroundings with curiosity before her crimson eyes shone faintly.

A strange ripple passed through her body, and the pointed ears on either side of her head slowly disappeared, replaced by ordinary human ears.

Her height also decreased until she was only around Ian’s shoulder, making her appear like a perfectly ordinary woman.

Aside from her unusually brown skin and distinctive pink hair, there was almost nothing left about her appearance that suggested she was a goddess.

Ian stared at her with a deep scowl.

He couldn’t help but feel indignant about the entire situation.

He was Ian, the Heavenly Demon, the man who had once terrorized countless Nations, clans and earned a name that even the heavens themselves feared.

Someone as powerful, ruthless, and scheming as him was now being carried around by some bratty goddess like a helpless invalid.

If he hadn’t been so severely weakened, he would have already shown her exactly what kind of man she was dealing with. Just thinking about it made him feel as though he had somehow become her servant.

He was the Heavenly Demon!

The one who would destroy the heavens.

The thought alone made his expression darken further. If his body had been in its former condition, he would have already strangled Destiny and left her corpse behind without hesitation.

Unfortunately, reality was far less accommodating. Even if he somehow managed to kill her in his current state, he wouldn’t have enough strength left to accomplish his true objective.

He still had to face him, and if he lost that battle, his soul would be completely destroyed. His current condition made that possibility almost certain.

Worse still, he didn’t have much time.

The river of time within him had been accelerated, and barely seventy years remained before his lifespan was exhausted.

Seventy years might sound like a long time to an ordinary human, but to someone like Ian, who had spent countless years scheming and preparing for revenge, it was nothing.

Fortunately, Destiny had promised to safeguard his soul from him, which meant that even after his physical body eventually perished, he would still have a chance to survive and seek his revenge.

That was the only reason Ian was willing to tolerate this humiliation.

Letting out a long sigh, Ian shook his head and finally looked at Destiny.

"Why are you changing your appearance?"

Destiny glanced at him as though the answer were obvious.

"We’re ordinary humans now. We’ve escaped from the Heartreach Continent, so naturally, we can’t walk into a village looking like gods."

Ian frowned slightly.

"And I thought you wanted to roam the world."

"I did."

"Then why stop here?"

Destiny shook her head, and the faint smile on her lips returned.

"I’ve already been to every part of this world, and I’ve visited other worlds as well, so what’s the point of wandering around aimlessly?"

She began walking along the dirt road stretching ahead of them, her bare feet stepping lightly against the uneven ground as Ian followed beside her.

"In every world I’ve visited, there are different kinds of mortals. Some worlds are primitive, while others are incredibly developed. Some people live in enormous cities, while others spend their entire lives in tiny villages. Their customs, languages, and ways of life can all be completely different, but there is always something they have in common."

Destiny glanced at him.

"Everywhere I go, mortals create families and try to live happily with the people they love."

Ian’s eyebrows twitched.

"So?"

"So I want to experience that."

She smiled as though she had just said something completely ordinary.

"That’s why I picked you. Why else would I need you?"

Ian’s scowl deepened immediately.

"So you want me to give you offspring?"

A loud snort escaped him, and the contempt in his voice was unmistakable.

"Dream on, witch. I’ve maintained my purity throughout my entire life, and you think I’m going to waste it on some nasty creature like you? Absolutely not! I’m someone who is brilliant once in a thousand years—no, once in an infinite number of years. Even if you beg me, I won’t give you anything. Go find someone else."

Destiny stopped walking.

She slowly turned her head and stared at him with a completely blank expression.

"Who said I wanted offspring from you?"

Ian’s expression froze.

"I can create them without physical union, you know."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"And mind your tone. I’m a goddess. I’m supposed to be the one looking down on you, yet somehow you’ve been looking down on me this entire time. What exactly do you think you are?"

Ian remained silent for a moment before looking away with a dissatisfied expression.

"I know you’re exceptional," Destiny continued, apparently deciding not to argue with him further, "but that’s not what I meant. I don’t need you for anything like that. I want us to act like mortals and gradually develop the lifestyle they have."

Ian glanced at her.

"Act?"

"Yes."

Destiny nodded.

"I’ll become a country woman, and you’ll become an ordinary man. We’ll live together, work together, eat together, and experience the things mortals experience. We don’t need to rank up, fight, conquer anything, or interfere with the world. For once, we can simply live."

Ian’s expression became strange.

"You dragged me all the way here for that?"

"Of course."

She sounded completely sincere.

Then Destiny’s expression gradually became more thoughtful.

"I once visited a world filled with wars. There was a woman there who had a childhood sweetheart. They grew up together, and after they became adults, they promised that they would stay together. They wanted to get married and spend the rest of their lives with one another, but the man was eventually forced to leave because he had to go to war."

Destiny’s voice became quieter as she recalled the memory.

"Before he left, they promised each other that they would marry after he returned."

Ian listened without interrupting, though his expression remained skeptical.

"But he never came back."

Destiny continued walking.

"I saw him die. A barrage of arrows pierced his body on the battlefield, and he never returned to that village. The woman didn’t know that, though. She waited for him."

She looked toward the distant road ahead.

"Every day, she would look toward the path leading into the village, believing that one day he would return. Years passed. Her hair turned white, her body grew weaker, and eventually she became an old woman. Yet she continued waiting for him."

Ian’s expression remained indifferent.

"When she eventually died, I expected her to be afraid. Mortals usually fear death because they don’t know what comes afterward."

Destiny’s crimson eyes softened.

"But she wasn’t afraid."

She paused for a moment before continuing.

"There was anticipation in her eyes. She looked almost happy, as though she believed that once she died, she would finally meet him again."

Ian scoffed.

"She waited for a dead man for her entire life."

"Yes."

Destiny smiled faintly.

"I couldn’t understand why."

She looked at Ian.

"That’s why I want to experience it."

Ian stared at her for several seconds before letting out another scoff.

"So you want me to die in a war for you?"

His expression became disdainful.

"Dream on. Even in my current condition, I could take on every human in this world with ease. If you want some dramatic story about a man leaving for war and never returning, you’ll have to find someone else."

Destiny could only sigh.

"You’re really thinking too much."

She resumed walking along the muddy road.

Ian remained where he was for a moment, staring at her back with an irritated expression before finally following.

"Bratty goddess..."

He muttered under his breath.

"What kind of nonsense are you planning now?"

Destiny ignored him completely.

The two continued down the muddy road, their figures gradually approaching the distant village.
