Inside the boundless, lightless abyss of Haoran’s spiritual sea, there was no sky, there was no earth, there was no horizon, and there were no stars.

There was only a stagnant, freezing ocean of liquid midnight, stretching into an infinite vacuum that smelled of stale graves, curdled milk, and prehistoric bile.

In the center of this suffocating gloom, Haoran hung suspended, limp and motionless, stripped of his waking authority.

The majestic golden light that usually defined his immortal lineage had dwindled to a faint, dying ember buried deep beneath his sternum.

Around his supine form, a thick, viscous sea of pitch black sludge churned with a grotesque, unnatural life of its own, slowly crawling over his limbs, his chest, and his throat, slowly eating him from the metaphysical plane downward.

The sludge did not merely submerge his spirit; it digested his identity.

Along the undulating surface of the black mire, thousands of milky yellow eyes peeled open in erratic, shuddering spasms.

They had no lids, only glistening rims of yellow mucus that wept oily fluid into the dark.

Between the sea of unblinking eyes, countless circular, lip-less mouths tore open through the sludge.

Rows of concentric, needle-thin shark teeth mashed and gnashed together in frantic, insatiable hunger, gnawing away at the golden spiritual fibers of his soul with sickening, wet squelches.

Every bite chewed away a memory: the sound of wind whispering through the bamboo groves of the Shen Clan, the weight of an imperial brush between his fingers, the names of ancient scriptures he had mastered as a boy.

The black grease was replacing his bloodline with its own cosmic rot, seeking to dissolve the last shred of the Young Master of the Shen Clan until nothing remained but a hollow, mindless vessel for the Primordial Chaos God to walk the mortal firmament once more.

WHOOSH.

Just then, a sudden, sharp ripple disturbed the stagnant, frozen dark.

From the highest stratum of his spiritual sea, where the barrier of his sea of consciousness met the physical world, a pure, incandescent spark of light broke through the gloom!

It fell like a falling star, burning with an ethereal, serene azure radiance that parted the freezing void.

As it descended, the spiritual fire did not scatter into random sparks but gathered, condensed, and coalesced into a slender, delicate form woven entirely from pure, translucent blue fire.

The flame took the shape of Huo Yue.

Her spectral form was breathtakingly distinct, sculpted from the serene, tranquil essence of the Clear Heart Flame.

Her long hair drifted around her shoulders in waves of cool, liquid sapphire fire, and her eyes, burning with an unyielding, desperate ferocity, cut straight through the miasma.

The moment her azure silhouette materialized, her gaze swept across the black ocean, instantly locking onto the pale, unmoving figure of Haoran submerged beneath the gnashing, tooth-filled mud.

Her translucent brow was already furrowed in fierce panic, and upon seeing this, she immediately tried to help!

Her fiery wings unfurled with a sharp, crystalline chime, and she dove toward the center of the lake of rot, reaching her hands out to tear the suffocating sludge away from his throat!

SKRRRRRR-KRRRR!

The foreign entity sensed the intrusion of the sacred fire.

The thousands of lidless eyes lining the sludge widened, rolling violently in their sockets as the circular mouths hissed in deafening, discordant protest!

From the churning depths of the black ocean, countless tentacles were brought to life!

Dozens, hundreds of thick, slick, rubbery tendrils, glistening like drowned snakes and studded with weeping eyes and gnashing suckers, erupted from the mire!

They whipped through the freezing void with violent, whip cracking velocity, converging into a dense, inescapable cage of rotting flesh, slamming at her with the force to crush mountain ranges into dust!

Huo Yue did not retreat.

Her azure flame flared with blinding brilliance as she twisted her spectral body mid-air, her form turning into a streak of translucent blue light!

She dodged the first colossal tentacle by a hair’s breadth, the foul draft of its passage howling past her ears, leaving a trail of reality-corroding slime suspended in the dark.

A second tendril lashed down from above like a black iron pillar; she snapped her waist, rolling horizontally through the freezing air, spinning past the barbed suckers before thrusting her palms forward in a furious counter-strike!

"Burn away, you filthy abomination!"

Waves of pure, incandescent Clear Heart Flame erupted from her hands, sweeping across the writhing forest of black limbs in a magnificent, crescent-shaped tempest of sapphire fire!

The tranquil flames slammed directly into the charging tentacles, hissing violently as the sacred light clashed against the outer god’s rot!

But it was useless.

The Clear Heart Flame was a medicine, a tranquilizer for the mind, an antidote for inner demons and mental illusions.

It was an ethereal balm, not a weapon of absolute physical or conceptual annihilation.

The serene blue fire washed over the black tentacles, causing them to sizzle and steam with foul, grey vapors, but the ancient, primordial madness of Azathoth was too vast and too boundless to be purged by a lone wisp of spiritual medicine.

The countless mouths along the tentacles simply snapped open, drinking the blue fire into their bellies, swallowing the celestial heat and belching out thick plumes of oily, suffocating soot!

For every tendril she scorched back by an inch, ten more burst from the depths of the black sea, lunging forward with blind, starving malice!

Just then, a massive, barbed tentacle caught the edge of her flaming shoulder, the concussive kinetic force threatening to shatter her spectral vessel into fading embers!

Huo Yue hissed in pain, her blue form flickering violently, but her gaze never once wavered from Haoran’s face.

She did not come here to wage a war of attrition against an outer god, she came here for him!

Igniting the very core of her spectral avatar, she turned herself into a piercing, streamlined spear of azure light!

Disregarding the three barbed tendrils that tore through her flaming flanks, she dove directly into the storm of gnashing jaws and whipping limbs!

BOOM!

She punched clean through a web of interlocking black sinew, burning a path through the rot with suicidal resolve.

Soon, Huo Yue managed to reach Haoran!

She crashed through the final layer of writhing sludge, her ethereal knees sinking into the freezing, oily mire.

Without a second of hesitation, she fell forward, her arms reaching through the churning sea of needle-toothed maws that bit at her wrists, completely ignoring the tearing agony ripping through her spiritual hands.

She gently grabbed his cheeks, the cool, tranquil sapphire fire of her palms pressing flat against the cold, dead skin of his face.

She leaned down, her translucent face hovering barely an inch above his motionless features, her voice trembling with raw, desperate fury as she called out to him.

"Haoran! Look at me! Wake up, you arrogant bastard! WAKE UP!"

In the deepest, forgotten stratum of the void, Haoran felt like he was floating in darkness.

There was no sensation of up or down.

There was no warmth, there was no cold, there was no weight, and there was no pulse.

He was drifting through an endless, hollow vacuum, an empty expanse where even the concept of seconds had ceased to exist.

His memories were fading like chalk washed away by rain.

He knew he had a name, but the letters felt foreign, slippery as melting ice.

He knew he was the heir to a grand clan, that he had once held a primordial sword that drank the blood of gods, and that he carried the physique of a primordial dragon within his very soul.

But what did an empire matter in the face of absolute, eternal sleep?

What did a dragon mean to a universe that had died before it was ever born?

It felt peaceful. A heavy, seductive stillness wrapped around his consciousness like a shroud of soft black velvet.

It was as if his entire existence was slowly being erased, smoothed down into a blank slate of absolute nothingness.

The sharp edges of his arrogance, the cold calculations of his intellect, the unyielding pride that had bent heaven and earth to his knee—all of it was dissolving into the warm, numbing dark.

He was ready to let go.

He was ready to sink into the deep, dreamless mud of the abyss and sleep for a hundred million epochs.

Then, from somewhere impossibly far away, above the cold ceiling of the void, a faint vibration rippled through the dark.

...Haoran...

A voice.

A call.

At first, he finds it annoying.

It was an irritating, persistent disturbance that scratched against the beautiful, silent glass of his eternal slumber.

Why was someone shouting?

Why was the void shaking?

He wanted the voice to be quiet. He wanted to swat it away like a buzzing fly so he could sink back into the soothing, painless dark where nothing demanded his attention, nothing required his judgment, and no battles needed to be won.

...Haoran! Wake up...!

The sound persisted, growing clearer, sharper, cutting through the thick, greasy fog of his dissolving mind like a thin needle of iron.

Then, he finds it familiar.

His drifting soul paused. The fading embers of his consciousness stirred, a faint, rhythmic pulse throbbing within the hollow space where his heart used to beat.

He had heard that cadence before.

It was not the cold, reverent whisper of a servant kneeling in the dust, annd it was not the terrified wail of a defeated enemy begging for mercy under the edge of his blade.

It carried a fierce, brazen heat—a sharp, unapologetic fire that refused to bow, refused to break, and refused to yield even an inch of ground to heaven or earth.

...Wake up, Haoran!

Then, he realized...

That voice belonged to Huo Yue.

The name detonated inside his mind like a falling star!

Images rushed back through the darkness in a violent, blinding torrent: her wild crimson hair dancing against the sky above Sky Reaching City; the arrogant, feral smirk she wore when she held five Heavenly Flames in her palm; the way she had looked at him when they walked through the halls; and the desperate, bloody kiss she had pressed against his lips as she drove herself onto the blade of Azathoth without flinching!

She stabbed herself... she burned her own core... just to reach me!

The realization struck his frozen pride like a divine thunderbolt!

The Young Master of the Shen Clan—the young sovereign who had sworn to stand above the nine heavens, who viewed the world as a chessboard and all living beings as pawns—was lying in a ditch of alien rot, being lulled to sleep like a weak, helpless child while his woman bled out on his sword in the physical world!

HOW DARE YOU!

A silent, world-shattering roar tore through the depths of his being!

AZATHOTH!

YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!

GASP!

His consciousness violently slammed back into his spiritual vessel!

The dead, motionless shell floating in the dark sea shuddered violently, his lungs expanding as if dragging in his very first breath of air!

His golden pupils blazed to life, burning with pure, molten solar fury that instantly shattered the milky, diseased film that had clouded his vision!

Looking out through the returning light, he found himself slowly being devoured by Azathoth with a flame Huo Yue in front of him.

He saw the horrifying reality of his state: the thick, bubbling black sludge had already climbed past his collarbones, sealing his arms and his ribs in a tomb of living, veiny obsidian flesh.

Thousands of needle-thin teeth were actively chewing away at the golden marrow of his spiritual bones, while hundreds of wet, lidless eyes blinked frantically against his bare skin.

And there, right before his chest, holding his cheeks with hands of pure, burning sapphire fire, was the trembling, spectral figure of Huo Yue.

Her translucent form was battered and fraying, riddled with gaping holes where the tentacles had torn through her fire, yet her fiery eyes were locked onto his, brimming with fierce, tearful relief the moment his golden gaze met hers.

"Haoran..." she breathed, her lips trembling with an exhausted, triumphant smile.

Sensing that he woke up, the countless mouths opened and let out an inhuman scream!

SKRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!

The black ocean detonated into a frenzy of panicked, furious terror!

Tens of thousands of mouths along the sludge, along the tentacles, and embedded directly into his own blackened flesh peeled wide open at the same instant!

It was a sound beyond the auditory spectrum of mortal life—a deafening, sanity-shredding shriek of a starved parasite realizing its prey had seized the knife!

The noise scraped against the spiritual sea like millions of rusty blades dragged across a bronze mirror, weeping foul black bile into the void, the sound waves tearing through the darkness in violent, concussive shockwaves that sought to shatter his awakened soul back into dust!
