Chapter 1447: Chapter 614: Just Giving It Away for Free!

The arena was approximately a thousand square meters, with seating around it able to accommodate over a thousand people. To witness this duel, the Light Pyramid was packed today, with famous figures from the entire Old World coming to the Imperial Capital to watch the "Night of a Thousand Laws" showdown, including many of the Imperial Prince-Electors, various Great Nobles from across the lands, the Duke of Musillon, Laine, and the Duchess Surya from Brittania, as well as guests from Estalia and Tiriel, and even Dwarfs and Elves.

It seemed intentional that Laine’s seat was arranged not far from the Emperor. To his left sat Amelia, and to his right, Surya. Both women, with great influence in the Old World, were dressed in splendid attire, dazzling and captivating, which led many nobles to sigh and say that Laine truly had a knack with women.

"Originally, the Night of a Thousand Laws used a large number of Wizards to determine victory and defeat, gradually selecting the Grand Mage," Amelia, dressed in the standard attire of an Imperial Prince-Elector, paired with black sheer tights and red lace-up high heels, introduced to Surya and Laine, "but about ninety years ago, during one ’Night of a Thousand Laws,’ the hostility between the Magic Academies finally escalated into violent conflict. The Mages attacked each other, and the night sky over Brunswick was filled with fireballs, lightning, and the flames of spells in various colors. In a magical backlash that killed six of the eight Deans in cruel and terrifying ways, the current Night of a Thousand Laws was revised to be contested by only a few candidates."

"I see." Laine hadn’t had the chance to inquire about this bit of history before a sudden cheer arose from the northwest corner of the stands.

"German! German! German!" The whole stand shouted a single name, their voices echoing throughout the arena.

He was a flame-element Grand Mage with brown hair, red eyes, and a faint smoke emanating from his body. He stood over two meters tall, with broad shoulders, a beard like a sculpted fiery bronze statue coated with oil, and a fierce eagle-hooked nose, dressed in the Supreme Dean’s robes of the Flame Academy in red and black flames, holding a black-skull-flame Magic Staff. His arms were branded with many Flame Magic curse seals. As he concentrated and increased his Mana reserves, his hair and beard had become flames.

He was the twice-consecutive Royal Chief Grand Wizard, Supreme Dean of the Flame Academy, Flame Element Holy Sanctuary Grand Mage, Sernus German!

On the other side of the arena, the Imperial Grand Alchemist, Biersaze Gaert, also strode into the arena, dressed in a glowing magic cloak, a radiant molten gold robe, and a golden mask. A Sea Gold Talisman hung from his chest, and he held a Golden Staff. Due to the mask covering his face, no one could discern his expression, giving him an air of calm.

The two stood still and then saluted each other, with the golden Wolan’s Staff placed nearby. The staff’s tip was a golden griffin statue holding a key, and it held immense power.

Today, Wolan’s Staff would welcome its new owner.

With the participants saluting, the Emperor of the Empire gave a speech, followed by the Light Mages activating the magic apparatus to raise the barriers, after which each side prepared, skimming over these details without elaboration.

Standing on the arena, the Great Alchemist Biersaze Gaert fixed his eyes on Sernus German, unleashing a flood of memories in his mind.

It had been eleven years since he had his encounter in the Nord Territory.

Now, finally standing on this arena, the Great Alchemist felt a sense of relief, remembering the conversation he had in that Ancient Saint Relic with a Supreme Being, someone inhuman yet human.

"Your ultimate goal, for the future of humanity, is admirable...continue your loyalty to humanity and the Empire!" said that being, overseeing the world, their power enough to illuminate the entire night sky, as ancient and sacred spells, profound and vast knowledge, entered his mind.

Spellcasting no longer became difficult; Gaert could feel it as he no longer needed to absorb the Metal Wind—instead it embraced him, his power growing ever stronger, turning the impossible possible.

Becoming the Royal Chief Grand Wizard was just the first step, Gaert thought; he had countless things to do, continuing to fight and research for humanity, the Old World, and that Supreme Being.

"The contest can begin!" A crisp chime echoed throughout the venue, as the new Supreme Dean of Bright Academy, Supreme Light Mage Kant, signaled the start.

Amid great anticipation, Sernus German immediately began casting. As if prepared in advance, the Flame Element Holy Sanctuary Grand Mage pulled a Scroll from his bosom and tore it apart. Following his chant, a massive Fire Elemental Gas Mass with a diameter of over three meters formed in the blink of an eye! The energies of destruction and Death Element blazed fiercely in the air.

"Eighth Ring Magic, Flame Burst Technique!"

"An opening Flame Burst!" shouted a surprised Wizard knowledgeable in magic, "It took only three seconds! My god!"

In just the opening, a Flame Burst Technique nearly completed preparation, and given the Flame Magic’s area of destruction, Gaert could almost certainly not dodge!

At this moment, Gaert seemed yet to enter the rhythm of the competition; he was still chanting, with his Golden Staff still casting, as the Wind of Piety swirled around him, condensing, making him appear to still be preparing to cast.

Observing from the stands, Carl Franz frowned. What was Gaert doing? Daydreaming?

The Emperor remained silent, only clenching his fist.

Sernus German had already prepared himself, pointing his Flame Magic Staff, sending the Flame Burst Technique flying towards Gaert. Immediately, three giant Flaming Skulls appeared out of thin air, revolving and burning around German, marking his readiness for the next spell.

But in the next second, Sernus’s expression suddenly froze.

The entire arena lit up with golden light, radiating from Gaert, a scorching golden glow.

"Mere flames...how could they compare to the molten flow of metal!" softly uttered the Grand Alchemist from beneath his mask, and then, a dazzling radiance erupted along Gaert’s staff, engulfing his entire being in an infinite golden light. The ensuing hot winds swept across the entire arena!

"Devout Gate Great Curse Technique, Smelting of the Void Dragon!"

Inside the venue, all spectators had to close their eyes, the only sound before them Sernus German’s cries of agony.

When the brilliance finally dissipated, the scene before everyone’s astonished eyes left them wide-eyed and slack-jawed.

Liquid gold flowed over the marble flooring of the arena, with the Great Alchemist Gaert standing proudly at the center. Before him, the Flame Element Holy Sanctuary Grand Mage Sernus German had turned into a gilded statue, with an expression of disbelief and unbearable pain on his face. The Flame Burst Technique’s fireball and Flaming Skulls had also turned into molten gold, sizzling on the marble floor.

In just over ten seconds from the start of the match, the victory of the Night of a Thousand Laws was decided, and Wolan’s Staff had a new owner.

Silence engulfed the entire scene.

At this moment, many spectators in the stands had only one thought.

"Damn, taken out in a single move, really just handed over!"
