What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?
Chapter 303: Just Cull Them All
I didn’t even bother making sure all of them were dead.
They would either just burn to death in the trees or die from the fall.
And even if they somehow survived the fall... There were still Anomalies down below and since they were not awakened people with powers, they wouldn’t survive.
That’s why I didn’t even stay to see the results before I was already flying off to the next area, ignoring the screams of pain and shouts of panic coming from behind.
Neither Maylene nor myself looked back as we flew off.
Maylene guided me out of the large forest and back into an open field where it didn’t take long before we came across what looked like a former farm that was located on top of a hill.
I didn’t need Maylene to point it out for me this time since it was quite literally right there out in the open since they cleared out the tall grass around the settlement which made them easy to see from the air.
It was clear that there was a survivor enclave here since there were barricades around the perimeter and even guard towers watching the gates.
Unlike the previous group, these people were not watching the skies at all and no one spotted me as I approached them from above.
I hovered in the air for a moment with Maylene riding my shoulders, checking to make sure that I knew where most of the survivors were before looking up.
"Ready?"
Maylene giggled, which inadvertently made her squeeze her thighs tighter around my face, "Ehehe~ I’m just here to watch the show and look for new ideas, Qing! Don’t mind me~"
At least she’s enjoying herself... And it’s not like she could do much at this elevation anyway... Although...
The image of me picking her up and tossing her like a projectile came to mind like a certain game character...
Ahem...
Anyway... We’re here to clean out pests so there’s no need for some big fanfare or revelation here.
I simply raised my hands and controlled the earth around the wall to rise up, forming a wall of stone that trapped everyone inside the farm.
Then I went ahead to rain down several fireballs that set everything in that area ablaze to let it burn before moving to the next spot.
Even if some of them survive the fire, those flames would basically be a beacon for the surrounding Anomalies to swarm this area and those survivors would be trapped inside with the Anomalies once they climb over the earthen wall. So once again, those guys were as good as dead.
For the third location... I needed Maylene to point it out to me because it’s another place that was located underground.
She stopped me in the middle of a field of grass and pointed below us, "It should be somewhere around here I think... Unless the map was incorrect. But seeing the large open space around here, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an underground facility here."
I trusted her more than the map so I descended down to the ground, moving the plants away using Siti’s powers to give us a clearing to stand on.
The moment I did so, one of those wolf monkey hybrids leapt out of the grass to try and bite at me but Maylene moved faster and sliced it open with her dagger before returning to my shoulders, her movements so fast I barely saw a glimpse of her before she had already returned to the space above me.
She really used her enhanced speed to kill an Anomaly just so that she wouldn’t be disturbed of her time on top of my shoulders...
"I’m guessing there’s a hidden entrance somewhere," I commented, not even acknowledging the dead Anomaly that was now splattered on the floor.
Maylene also ignored it to look around, "Mmm... The tall grass isn’t helping either... I can’t see anything from up here and there’s definitely more of those Anomalies hiding in them too."
I took a moment to think before nodding my head, "Well... You said the hideout should be around here and most likely underground so... I guess if we can’t find the entrance, we just need to make our own."
Her response was to hang on me even tighter before I pointed my palm down at the ground, willing the ground to crack open while I remained floating up above the hole that had just appeared.
I spread my arms apart and the earth obeyed, the ground curling and folding itself as I enlarged the hole and tore it open to expose what was underneath it.
Right on the mark, the ground tore open to reveal what looked like a maintenance tunnel of sorts that ran underground beneath us. The lights flickered as the walls were torn open to reveal its interior before plunging into darkness as I must have ripped off the cables that were hidden in the walls.
Unperturbed, I hopped into the tunnel with Maylene, taking a moment to look around.
"Qing~ Seems like that place is the generator room~" Maylene told me helpfully, pointing towards the left side of the corridor.
I was curious how she knew until I walked down the corridor and heard the faint humming of the generators, which I assumed was what she heard that helped her deduce it for what it was.
There was a security door there which slid open as I stepped up to it, probably not having any security in place since the people here weren’t worried about human intruders.
Inside, there was a large oval shaped machine that had pipes and wires connected to it, giving off a faint aura of static which made me assume this was the heart of the generator.
However... I was not alone.
Two guys were standing inside and they spun around to gape at me when they heard me enter the room.
"Whet the fuck?! Who are--"
"Mutants!! Sound the alar--"
I didn’t give them a chance to finish as I punched them with my floating arms, sending them flying towards the machine and crashing against it.
Stray sparks of lightning struck them and they ended up getting electrocuted to death, their charred bodies falling onto the ground with a thud.
Maylene pointed at a console nearby, guiding me towards it enthusiastically, "There! Just push all the levers up to the maximum and... Oh, there’s the override switch. Pull that one down. That knob over there, turn it all the way to the right and... Hmm... They seem to be running on Mana Crystals here. Let me just do a quick sketch, oh wait, those are blueprints there on the table! Grab that! Wheeee! Ok! Let’s see... Oh! There’s a failsafe switch by the corner there, just smash it. And... Yep, we’re good to go~"
I followed her instructions and soon enough, the machine was letting out very concerning sounds as it rattled and shook while electrical sparks exploded out from the walls nearest to it.
"That’s our cue to go~" Maylene giggled, not even looking worried by this.
I did not argue and opened a teleportation door to teleport us outside, reappearing near the hole I made before flying up into the air.
I then made my way towards the fourth hideout right as an explosion wrecked through the land behind me, throwing up a mushroom cloud that reached high up into the sky.
Yeah, those guys are definitely dead.
The fourth location turned out to be a bust as the place was supposedly a roadside rest stop where drivers could take a break at a diner or something, which I assumed a group of survivors took over and turned it into a small fort.
The problem was that the fort was overrun with Anomalies so I’m guessing this group didn’t make it.
I went ahead to light the place up on fire anyway before I went to the last location I was supposed to deal with.
The place turned out to be a small, gated community that was also turned into an outpost and that was not the biggest surprise for us.
Inside that compound... There were vehicles and machines that looked like they were built for war.
Pickup trucks with mounted guns behind them and even armoured trucks with spikes and guns attached to their sides and top.
Not only that, the place looked more like a military base than a survivor camp, with everyone walking around the area carrying some sort of weapon slung to their backs and working on something within the camp, as if they were expecting to get attacked at any moment.
"This isn’t a survivor camp... It’s a military base, Qing..." Maylene whispered, mirroring my thoughts.
Before I could answer her, the gates opened and a few of the vehicles started leaving the camp to head down the road, moving in the opposite direction of where our base was.
I guess... We might as well follow them to see what they’re doing?
