What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?
Chapter 304: Their Plans Were Not Yet Finished
The vehicles moved along the road silently.
There were a few Anomalies along the way but they were easily gunned down by the weapons on the vehicles.
Interestingly enough, I realised there were corpses of Anomalies littered along the sides of the road, meaning this wasn’t the first time that they were using this road.
While this group wasn’t flourishing like Khar’s group were, they were definitely surviving pretty comfortably at the very least.
Well… Maybe not comfortably but they are pretty safe and secure despite their World being overrun by Anomalies.
I looked up at Maylene, “What do you think about this?”
She let out a soft hum, “Mmm… Think about what?”
“The fact that there’s a community here that managed to make themselves into a militant group and can freely roam around to scavenge for stuff.”
“Mmm… Well… If you ask me, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal? You know… Because… Umm… We did the same thing too?”
Ah, right… I almost forgot that we found Maylene and her group with their own community surviving underground as well.
That brings a question actually…
“Do you think there’s more Bunarfs in the rift that you’re from? Maybe also surviving somewhere underground?” I asked.
She paused for a moment before shrugging, “Maybe… I’ve been travelling through the tunnels for a long time and… The only places I’ve found are ruins and more runs… And I’ve never met another survivor outside of our colony so… If there were, I’ve never run into them.”
I suppose the fact that the denizens mostly live underground might be a reason why.
I focused my attention back on the vehicle convoy again, watching them drive down the road until they reached the outskirts of a town that seemed to have been bombed and burned on the outskirts, though the middle of the town looked relatively intact.
Someone stepped out of the truck at the front that was leading the convoy, scanning the outskirts of said town for a moment before climbing back in again.
I’m glad none of them even bothered to look up since I wasn’t really hiding myself to begin with.
I guess they’ve already grown accustomed to the threats coming from land that they’ve stopped watching the skies.
There were four vehicles in total and the ones at the front and back were basically pickup trucks with a mounted gun on the bed. The one that was second from the front was a minibus and the third one was a truck.
They moved into the city at a slower speed compared to when they had been driving here and they eventually stopped right outside the place where the town was still intact, ignoring all of the houses that had been burned down outside.
That was when I realised that the town had a wall surrounding its perimeter and buildings closest to the wall had been turned into guard towers to watch the perimeter.
There was even a rather solid looking gate at the road that leads into that part of the town and… Wait… Are those automated turrets?
They managed to make automated turrets… In a place like this…
And by the looks of things, these people aren’t mutants and are just normal survivors… I’m surprised that they managed to get to this stage without mutants showing up to kill and enslave everyone…
Both Maylene and I watched as the gates slowly slid open to allow the convoy inside, all of them driving past the automated turrets without triggering them before the gates closed behind them.
Hmm… So maybe this wasn’t a scavenging run but a resupply run instead?
The four vehicles rolled to a stop inside a compound in front of a group of warehouses which I assumed was where they stored all the stuff in their base.
The occupants of the car got out and the shutters of the warehouse rolled open, revealing several people rolling out what looked like egg shaped machinery on trolleys towards the ruck.
That was when Maylene let out a gasp at the sight of those machines.
“Qing… I’m… Pretty sure those are the bombs that blew up that underground city and our base…”
I felt my blood run cold, especially when I saw that they were rolling out about a dozen of those bombs that they were undoubtedly planning to load up in that truck.
I didn’t ask if she was sure and trusted her word for it.
“Where are they planning to use this on?”
Maylene hesitated, “Do you think they know they didn’t kill us completely and plan to plant those bombs in the city to level it with us still inside?”
“Or they are planning to use this on another awakened hideout somewhere else… Either way, it can’t be for good.”
Maylene looked down at me from above with a smirk, “Then… Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
“If what you’re thinking has something to do with us taking those bombs for ourselves then yes.”
“Ehehehe~ That’s right~ I wanna see how they make it! Then we could maybe make one of them ourselves!”
Right… I was thinking that we could steal it and use it against the Anomalies or against these survivors if we need to but… I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that her first thought was to try and make one of her own…
“We’ll wait until they finish loading up the trucks and ambush them on the way back.”
“Eh? Why not just go down there and flatten everyone right now?”
I gestured at the town, “You’re telling me you don’t want to at least look at what things they have here before I destroy the place?”
“Ah. Good point. I want more samples and equipment I can bring back to experiment on~ Good thinking, Qing!”
Yeah, if we get down there right now, we’ll throw the entire base into chaos and Maylene probably wouldn’t be able to gather their stuff for her projects.
So we might as well separate these two groups first and deal with each of them separately.
We ended up watching them load up the truck before they left the town through the same gate again, moving slowly on the road like they were afraid if they moved too fast, they would blow up the bombs.
I followed after them, intending to ambush them back at their base to wipe this entire group out together but… When they reached the road where they should have turned to drive into their base, they kept going.
And they were driving in the direction of where our group was located…
Seriously?
They’re really heading out to bomb us right now?!
I mean… Maybe there’s another hideout in that direction that we don’t know of that they were going to deal with but… They packed twelve bombs…
I don’t know what the payload of those things are but I wasn’t going to risk it.
“Hang on tight,” I warned Maylene, right before shooting us above the convoy to fly at the same speed as they were.
I then summoned two of my floating arms and smashed down on the lead and back car, flattening them into pancakes and pinning the last two vehicles between two broken wrecks.
Both the truck and the minibus skidded to a stop, their doors opening to let the passengers jump out to survey the surroundings, none of them realising the attack came from above.
I dropped down on top of the minibus, crushing it under my feet and stunning the remaining survivors.
“Secure the truck,” I instructed.
Maylene disappeared from my shoulders, already blurring inside the cab of the truck to take out the driver.
As for me, I slammed two of my floating fists on top of the two survivors that tried to turn their guns towards me before shooting out two bolts of lightning that struck another pair in the chest.
Four guys lifted up their guns and one started running towards the grass to escape.
I spun in a circle, shooting out a gout of flames around me that set the four guys on fire before I leapt off to land on the last guy, knocking him over to the ground.
I lifted him up by the collar and glared at him through my mask, “Where were you supposed to deliver those bombs?”
He furrowed his brows and spat at me.
Tsk… Shouldn’t even have bothered.
I stuck my hand to his neck and let my hand melt into his skin, using the skill to flare up all his pain sensors and watching him scream even though I wasn’t doing anything to him directly.
I didn’t even need to try and read his surface memories before he started blabbing.
“Ahhhh!! Ok!! Ok!!! We… We were… Ahhhh!!! We were supposed… To bomb… A city down the road!! Ahhh!!! There’s… There’s supposed to be mutants there!! Stop!! Please!!”
Fuck… So they really were targeting us.
I went ahead to snap his neck before dumping his corpse at the side, turning to see Maylene standing over the corpse of the driver and her dagger coated in blood.
Guess it’s a good thing we decided to kill all these people…
Guardian Maylene:
Oooh~ Big bombs? Don’t mind if I do! I’m sure my sisters would really like to take this apart back home!
