When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1393: Don’t Regret It (Part 1)
That night, Zhou Qi slept poorly, and so did Xiao Rou.
The next day when she got up, she had two dark circles under her eyes, and her whole face looked haggard. There was nothing she could do about it; she fell asleep only in the latter half of the night, so it was hard not to look weary.
After a splash of cold water last night, Xiao Rou became much more awake, but it felt like there was a big hole inside her, letting in a gust of wind, chilling her to the bone.
After tidying up, Xiao Rou changed clothes and headed out to the milk tea shop.
Only when she walked out of the unit door did she realize that the sunlight looked nice today, but in reality, the wind was strong and the temperature must have dropped considerably, it was quite chilly.
Wrapped in her clothes, heading to the milk tea shop—a busy day again. When engrossed with those tasks, Xiao Rou didn’t think much about Zhou Qi.
During a break, Xu Qingqing talked to her about the oven measurements and the reservation matter from yesterday.
In these matters, Xiao Rou trusted Xu Qingqing very much. After all, if you were to discuss experience, Xu Qingqing had much more than she did.
"Rourou? You went to bed late yesterday? You don’t seem to be in great spirits today."
Xu Qingqing looked at Xiao Rou’s heavy panda-like dark circles and asked with concern.
Xiao Rou smiled lightly: "A bit of insomnia."
"Insomnia? That’s not good; sleep is very important. Are you too tired?"
"No, don’t worry, I’m okay."
Xiao Rou didn’t explain much, just smiled gently.
Someone came to buy things again, and the two got busy once more.
For several days in a row, Xiao Rou was busy like this and didn’t have much contact with Zhou Qi.
Actually, before, she would occasionally reach out to Zhou Qi, mainly because this milk tea shop’s biggest investor was Zhou Chengchen, who was abroad, and due to time zone differences, it was inconvenient to reach out anytime, so Xiao Rou discussed many things with Zhou Qi.
But when you have something weighing on your mind, you feel uneasy, fearing that being too proactive might make Zhou Qi think she’s clueless and overly sentimental.
Xiao Rou by nature was soft-hearted, and such people tend to be particularly resilient and tolerant.
In the blink of an eye, it was Friday again. In the evening, Xiao Rou had just returned to her apartment when she received a call from Mrs. Xiao, asking her to come home for dinner the next evening.
This weekend, Xu Qingqing also had matters to attend to; she had long told her she couldn’t come over during the weekend. Now receiving Mrs. Xiao’s call, Xiao Rou realized she was already overwhelmed on her own, with family affairs to attend to as well, she simply decided not to open the store.
On Saturday, she slept until she woke naturally, tidied up a bit, and headed back to the Xiao family.
When she arrived, Mr. Xiao was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. Upon seeing her return, he didn’t greet her and just coldly snorted.
But when Mrs. Xiao mentioned she forgot to buy ribs and couldn’t make sweet and sour ribs for Xiao Rou that evening, Mr. Xiao silently got up and left, and shortly thereafter returned with two kilos of ribs.
Xiao Rou was helping Mrs. Xiao clean the refrigerator, and when she saw Mr. Xiao place the ribs in the sink with a cold expression, the mother and daughter exchanged a glance and both laughed.
Mr. Xiao snorted again and turned back to the living room.
Mrs. Xiao shot Xiao Rou a look, and Xiao Rou understood, wiped her hands, followed Mr. Xiao, took out the chess from the study, and said to Mr. Xiao like a kid: "Dad, it’s been a while since we played chess. Let’s have a game."
"I don’t feel like playing."
Mr. Xiao maintained his cold demeanor, while Xiao Rou continued to act cute: "But I want to play, will you keep me company?"
Mr. Xiao had a temper that succumbed to softness rather than toughness, and with Xiao Rou playfully acting coy, he couldn’t hold it up any longer.
