Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 194 - 193: Death from a Loose Tongue

Pei Yuan’s gaze was fixed on the figure before him, dressed in a pink, waist-cinching dress. His expression was wary.

Cold sweat silently soaked his back.

The Water Jelly Soul Ghost exploded and dispersed. Wisps of smoke gently blended into the air, and even today’s breeze seemed to carry an air of majesty and pressure.

"Your Soul Ghost... can it turn invisible, or is it an Illusion?" Pei Yuan asked, his voice laced with dread.

Jian Yu didn’t answer, simply using Instant Teleportation to close the distance in silence.

Her wide sleeves fluttered in the wind. For the few moments she was a blur of motion, she was as beautiful as a pink butterfly.

Her skirt swayed, and Purple Fog flew out from her wide, lace-trimmed sleeves. Mixed within it was a thin black thread, drifting into everyone’s line of sight.

"Can Soul Power really have five colors? I thought the Chiefs only had two or three at most," a teacher in charge of guarding the arena said, his vision blurred by the fog. He quickly raised a Soul Beast Barrier.

SHING! SHING! SHING!

One after another, rings of barriers lit up.

Someone in the audience cried out in panic, "Little Fairy! Don’t use an indiscriminate attack!"

Shen Gu snapped in a low voice, "There’s a protective shield around the arena! The attacks can’t reach you!"

Pei Yuan’s chest heaved. He watched helplessly as the Water Jelly Soul Beast disintegrated before his eyes, transforming into a roiling, rising Purple Fog that spread out in layers, completely obscuring his vision.

At this moment, a dark, gloomy purple bloomed around his eyes, jarring and alarming.

"Do you think a mere trick of the eye and an Illusion can fool me?" Pei Yuan observed for a moment before coming to a conclusion.

’It has to be fake!’

His barrier was about to shatter. Faced with the choice between wasting spiritual power to continue defending and going all-out for a final gamble, Pei Yuan chose the latter.

He withdrew the spiritual power from his barrier, concentrating all of it to continuously form eight sharp blades.

But as Jian Yu’s fingers brushed across her chest, the spiritual power he had projected suddenly felt sluggish.

’The spiritual power blades I shot out should be blue.’

’Why are they blackish-purple?’

Pei Yuan was dumbfounded as he watched his blue blades get entangled by the Purple Fog and corroded by a black mist.

Before he could even react, the eight sharp blades he had created all turned back, spread out, and aimed for his limbs.

Eight blades—two for each arm and each leg.

However ruthless the attack, the more it would hurt when it landed.

Pei Yuan collapsed to his knees. A look of terror flashed across his face as humiliation washed over him like a tide. But since the match was still ongoing, he could only suppress it deep down.

He looked at Jian Yu’s terrifyingly calm face and hurriedly released his last bit of spiritual power, beginning to reinforce his Defense Barrier.

In a daze, he saw Jian Yu’s large, pink, floral sleeve flash before him. Her pearly white fingers formed a beautiful hand sign as she gently brushed past her heart.

As a gesture similar to a sealing sign was completed, several black threads latched onto Pei Yuan’s projected spiritual veins and bored straight into his Spirit Domain.

The edge of his Spirit Sea was instantly assaulted by a sharp, needle-like pain. Wisps of a white tea fragrance, carrying an aggressive aura, drilled into his chest, choking him until his vision turned crimson.

[The Red Team is victorious! For this challenge match, all bets placed by the Blue Team will be forfeited to the Red Team for their use!]

The announcement echoed.

Staff members went up to help the injured.

Medical personnel were already waiting at the ready.

Pei Yuan’s old wounds were now compounded by new ones. His Spirit Domain began to ache, and even after his limbs received Healing, the pain was only slightly alleviated.

He would probably be bedridden for another two or three months.

At first, he hadn’t used lethal force against Jian Yu, considering the matter of the subsequent Contracted Beast Pet.

But once he realized he might lose, he became so desperate to win that he couldn’t be bothered with whether Jian Yu lived or died.

’After all, with Pei Yin and the others around, it’s not like Jian Yu absolutely has to be the one to help with the Contract. I could just have her persuade those Chiefs to fulfill the Contract instead.’

’If I’m lucky, I might even be able to crush this future chosen one before she has a chance to mature.’

Pei Yuan’s fingers trembled as he touched his leg.

His eyes searched for her, only to find that Jian Yu had already left the arena.

Her back was to him. Her eyes were wide and round, and as she looked at Shen Gu and spoke to him, she appeared utterly sincere, clear-eyed, and docile.

She looked soft, cute, and harmless, but in reality, she was aloof and superior. Pei Yuan felt both embarrassed and humiliated.

A member of the medical staff said, "You’re lucky it was just your arms and legs. If it had been your heart, Spirit Domain, or neck, it would have been fatal."

Pei Yuan wasn’t listening.

When the medic turned away to get some medicine, he quickly pulled out the Poisonous Beast Needle device from behind his back. With a trembling hand, he raised it and aimed for the spot between Jian Yu’s eyebrows.

Before the Poison Needle could be fired, the Illusion around him suddenly distorted. A black and red snake slithered onto the poison gun in his hand. Its vertical pupils were icy cold, and its tail was firmly plugging the muzzle.

A powerful Soul Power pressed down on him, and Pei Yuan was so scared his eyes became bloodshot.

He dropped the poison gun in terror.

The Red Snake flicked its tail, turning the gun’s muzzle around.

"H... hngh," Pei Yuan was too terrified to speak.

"AAAAAH! Help me!"

The medic saw this, silently stood up, and pulled the nearby referee-teacher back, saying, "This man must be possessed by a Soul Ghost Body! Look, he gets injured and a Soul Ghost Body immediately latches onto him. It’s terrifying."

Pei Yuan’s hair stood on end. He didn’t dare to breathe.

His fearful eyes were fixed on the muzzle. "I’m not! I’m still human!"

The crowd: "No, you’re not. You’re definitely not. Otherwise, why would Chief Ling’s Soul Beast be after you?"

The Red Snake turned its head and said in a childish voice, seeking praise, "Yu Baby!"

Shifting his gaze, he saw Si Xu and Pei Yin standing beside Jian Yu.

’No wonder everything around me felt like it was subtly distorting for a few seconds just now.’

Pei Yuan saw Pei Yin too. He felt ashamed, but also resented Pei Yin for not coming to his rescue.

Even though he was the one who had begged his father to send him to Weis Lan Noble Academy, and had even sworn to his father that he would be cautious in his words and actions and cultivate diligently...

’But we’re both from the same clan, and both considered outstanding disciples. How can Pei Yin just stand by and watch?’

Pei Yuan glanced at the menacing Red Snake and couldn’t help but cry out for help, "Brother!"

Jian Yu was holding a Beast Crystal to replenish her energy, watching the Red Snake twist its body and show off.

Suddenly hearing such a mournful cry of "Brother," she jumped in surprise.

"Ignore him." Pei Yin had only come over because he was worried about her; he had no intention of getting involved with his so-called little brother.

Even if they were full-blooded brothers, let alone just clan-brothers, he still wouldn’t have meddled in this.

Pei Yin shot Pei Yuan a vicious glare, making his heart tremble with fear.

His voice wasn’t loud, but as Pei Yuan looked into those eyes, he felt a chill run deep into his heart.

Pei Yuan’s attention returned to the poison gun, which the Red Snake was holding motionless. He taunted weakly, "Just a bluff."

"Oh! I forgot." The Red Snake’s tail gently squeezed. The muzzle fired a potent Poison Beast Needle, striking Pei Yuan right between the eyes.

"Still breathing?" The Red Snake’s body swelled, and its Beast Soul shot through Pei Yuan’s brain, carrying a chilling aura.

It then stated in an official tone, "Soul Ghost Body, eliminated. Remember to report it."

Pei Yuan fell to the ground.

He died because he talked too much.

’If only I had known...’

"Yu Baby!" The Red Snake flapped its thin, fleshy wings and flew toward Jian Yu.

Jian Yu instinctively looked around.

The Red Snake crawled onto Jian Yu’s shoulder. "My master isn’t here."

Jian Yu recalled what Xi Yu had said that day. "Have you been following me these past few days?"

"Mhm," the Red Snake nodded, snuggling up on Jian Yu’s shoulder lazily.

She had been in a weakened and muddled state, only truly having awakened today, on the third day.
