Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 636 - 394: Endless Wrath
Chapter 636: Chapter 394: Endless Wrath
CLANG! JINGLE! CRACKLE! POP!
The sounds of striking gongs, beating drums, and exploding firecrackers rang out once more.
The wedding procession turned around and headed toward the groom’s new marital residence.
From beginning to end, Ouluan never once set foot inside the Wan Mansion.
At the head of the procession, Wan Lianping and Ouluan rode side by side, their gazes fixed forward. One rode a dapple-gray horse, the other a white one.
Han Ning stood on the side of the road, holding an oil-paper umbrella as she watched the scene unfold.
...
In the southern part of Rongzhou’s outer city, under a sky thick with dark clouds and a ceaseless drizzle.
Han Ning stood alone on a rooftop, the cold wind making the hem of her clothes whip and snap. A faint light flickered within her cold, indifferent eyes.
’Something feels off about this wedding banquet tonight. I think something’s going to happen.’
It was an intuition that stemmed from the depths of her very soul.
Serpents of dazzling lightning snaked across the overcast sky.
Elder Wan of the Wanbao Commerce Association couldn’t bear to have his daughter live in the rough-and-tumble outer city, so the new marital residence built for Miss Yun was also located in the inner city. With the Wan Mansion on the east side and the new residence on the west, the wedding procession had to cross practically the entire inner city of Rongzhou.
When the procession had traveled about halfway, Wan Lianping pulled on his reins, halting his advance.
He turned his horse and trotted over to the bridal sedan. Leaning down, he spoke softly to Miss Yun inside, "Yun’Er, this is as far as I can take you. You must travel the rest of the way with your husband."
This was one of Rongzhou’s wedding customs: the bride’s brother would escort her halfway before returning to their family home.
Before Miss Yun could reply, Wan Lianping rode his dapple-gray horse away from the procession. After traveling a short distance, he turned back. Standing alone in the wind and rain, he watched the noisy, festive procession gradually disappear into the distance, as if all the revelry had nothing to do with him.
After a long moment, he let out a heavy sigh. "I just hope my little sister can live a happy life."
The wedding procession continued on. The weather was cold and damp, but the inner city’s streets were clean. Though the roads were slick with rain, they weren’t muddy.
The long procession was the only thing on the main thoroughfare of the inner city. Although everyone in the party did their best to wear festive smiles, the empty, quiet surroundings lent the scene an air of desolation.
The procession wound its way past several of Rongzhou’s landmarks, soon arriving before a sprawling, three-courtyard mansion on the west side of the inner city.
On the mansion’s gilded plaque, the two words "Ou Mansion" were carved in a flamboyant, flowing script.
CRACKLE! POP!
Amidst the billowing, bluish-white gunpowder smoke, the wedding procession came to a halt before the Ou Mansion’s gates.
Eight burly men set the bridal sedan down in the courtyard. A cute, delicate-looking little girl in festive clothes and carrying a flower basket emerged from the crowd. She walked to the sedan, gently parted the curtain just a crack, and reached her small hand inside to tug the bride’s sleeve three times. Head bowed, Miss Yun carefully stepped out of the sedan.
The wedding attendants waiting by the sedan stepped forward to help Miss Yun into the main hall of the residence.
Night had completely fallen.
The rain had stopped, but lightning still tore across the heavens from time to time, illuminating the night sky.
By now, the Ou Mansion was bustling with people, filled with a joyous and festive air.
The formal wedding ceremony and banquet were about to begin.
Just then, a resonant voice boomed through the hall, "Let us welcome the bride and groom!~"
Amidst a chorus of shouts and cheers, Ouluan gently supported Miss Yun as they emerged from the back of the hall, stopping a short distance from the candelabra.
Miss Yun was dressed in magnificent robes, her face still covered by the Red Veil.
Before the candelabra, a stern-looking man sat on the left. He wore the bright yellow robes of a wealthy squire, his hair half-bald and white, and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes ran deep.
The woman seated on the right bore a strong resemblance to Miss Yun. Her waterfall of black hair was coiled into a married woman’s bun and studded with all manner of precious jewels. Dressed in a tasteful, light-colored robe of cloud-patterned silk brocade, she looked to be no older than her early thirties.
Once the newlyweds were in position at the front of the hall, Mrs. Wan lifted her chin and gestured to the wedding attendant.
The attendant took the hint. She cleared her throat, and after a long-winded opening speech, she finally called out, "First bow, to Heaven and Earth!"
The crowd, who had been whispering amongst themselves, fell silent, and the ambient noise in the hall gradually died down.
For the first bow, to Heaven and Earth, Ouluan held Miss Yun’s hand. Together, they turned to face the dark night outside the hall. They knelt, placed their hands on the floor, and gently touched their foreheads to the smooth stone tiles.
"CRACK!~"
A dazzling serpent of lightning split the sky, illuminating Ouluan’s pale, handsome face.
"Second bow, to the elders!"
For the second bow, to the elders, the two helped each other to their feet. Miss Yun’s Body was weak, and her legs felt unsteady as she stood, causing her to lean involuntarily against Ouluan.
Ouluan gently held her by the shoulders, helping her to steady herself.
The pair turned to face the stern Elder Wan and the smiling Mrs. Wan. They knelt and performed three deep kowtows, their foreheads thudding audibly against the floor.
"Quickly, rise."
Her heart aching for her daughter, Mrs. Wan half-rose from her seat, her hands reaching out in a gesture of support.
When it came time for the final bow, between husband and wife, Ouluan and Miss Yun faced each other, their hands clasped tightly together.
A faint smile appeared on Ouluan’s handsome face.
"Yun’Er..."
"Bow to each other!"
Miss Yun gently lifted the hem of her robes and began to bow.
"BOOM!" On the horizon, a Thunderbolt exploded.
But just as their foreheads were about to touch...
Dense fur suddenly sprouted all over the handsome Ouluan’s fair-skinned face.
A pair of thick, powerful hands instantly pierced through Miss Yun’s chest.
SQUELCH!
The massive hands retracted.
In them, a fresh heart pulsed, steaming in the cool air.
"Hehehehe! The heart of a woman in love... truly the most delicious."
His hair stood on end and his eyes blazed with a scarlet light. He let out a roar as his appearance began to transform.
His jaw sharpened to a point, his face elongated into a snout, and his ears grew pointed and stood erect.
Atop his human Body, a massive wolf’s head had appeared.
"Ou... Ou Lang~"
The woman’s eyes widened. She stared in disbelief at the wolf creature gnawing on her heart as the light in her eyes rapidly faded.
The Wolf Demon cradled the woman’s delicate head and grinned, revealing a bloody maw. "Hate me. Despise me. Unleash all of your resentment. You will make the finest of my wraith-servants."
He stuffed the heart into his mouth, then abruptly turned his head, casting a smirk in Han Ning’s direction. With a push of his feet, he shot into the sky and vanished from the courtyard.
"Faithless man... faithless man..."
A trail of bloody tears streamed from Miss Yun’s eyes.
"Men... are all worthless scum!"
Within the silent hall, an endless, furious resentment erupted!
The nails on Miss Yun’s ten fingers grew long and sharp, glowing with a scarlet, bloody light.
Her hair writhed as if it were alive, growing longer and longer.
FWIP! FWIP! FWIP!
Endless strands of black hair shot out in all directions like a peacock fanning its tail.
The strands pierced through skulls, harvesting one innocent life after another.
’So you’re the one I have to deal with in this second courtyard,’
As Han Ning watched the black hair shoot toward her, the space before her distorted.
SNAP!~
An ink-black eagle’s talon shot out, shredding the incoming strands of hair into a shower of fragments.
Egg Pancake, Little Fatty Silkworm, and Frost Jade leaped out from the Soul Beast Space, surrounding Han Ning to protect her.
By now, the entire mansion had transformed into a Corpse Mountain and a sea of blood—a Purgatory of flesh and gore.
Countless tendrils of blood from the air flowed into the body of the now blood-red Miss Yun.
Her vacant eyes transformed into orbs of blood, filled with a monstrous, venomous resentment. She stared straight at Han Ning with a soul-shaking gaze.
"So you got played by a scumbag and now you’re taking it out on us?" Han Ning met her gaze without a trace of fear.
BOOM!
Miss Yun vanished on the spot.
"GRUHH!"
In that instant, Little Fatty Silkworm let out an furious growl.
A black figure and a red one were sent flying backward, smashing through one wall after another and carving a long trench into the ground.
"HSSS~"
An icy chill radiated from Egg Pancake as it took aim at the red-robed Miss Yun and opened its draconic maw.
FWOOSH!
A slender beam of freezing energy shot forth.
Miss Yun, who was locked in combat with the All-Encompassing Spiritual Silkworm, whipped her head around and let out a sharp, vicious shriek.
All the severed limbs and chunks of flesh on the ground flew up, forming a barrier against the icy breath.
KRRRACKLE~
Everything turned white.
A layer of hard Ice Crystals rapidly coated Miss Yun’s body.
’Her combat power isn’t low—at least at the level of a War General I. The person who created this ruin must be quite capable...’
