Chapter 1141 - 10: Black Forest Hounds

  • Next Chapter

"Black Forest Hounds, huh? These things are incredibly rare internationally."

Chen Wen walked over to one of the hounds and extended his hand.

Due to the friendly aura he carried, the hound obediently approached him, sniffing his scent.

"Do you know these guys?"

Curious, Gaston asked, "Black Forest Hounds, why haven’t I heard of them?"

"Because they’re very rare internationally. Currently, Slovenia has a relatively larger number of them; it’s kind of a local specialty there."

Chen Wen spoke as he playfully teased the hound that appeared somewhat clumsy.

Fred, observing Chen Wen’s actions, felt tempted. He mimicked Chen Wen’s gestures, trying to play with the hound on his side.

But before Fred could reach out, the Black Forest Hound exhibited great vigilance.

So much so that Fred quickly withdrew his hand.

Chen Wen chuckled, "These dogs shouldn’t be teased. They are naturally excitable, independent, and aggressive. Generally, only after long-term training can they obey and follow their owner’s commands."

Fred nodded slightly, but watching the hound frolic around Chen Wen, he was baffled. "Then what’s this...?"

"I just can’t be understood by normal means."

Chen Wen replied, laughing.

Then, he patted the head of the hound beside him and said, "It seems like this place has something special, gathering a group of Black Forest Hounds. They’re excellent scent hounds, best at finding prey in cold forests."

By now, Roland, who had already mapped out a route, came over.

Hearing Chen Wen’s words, Roland, the hunter guide, naturally moved closer to the Black Forest Hounds, carefully examining these animals.

Roland soon remarked with amazement, "Chen Wen is right. These hounds look extraordinary. They might be even better suited for forest hunting than those I’ve carefully raised."

Meanwhile, two guides also walked over.

One of them was stunned seeing Chen Wen so close with the two hounds.

He curiously asked Chen Wen, "Are you a dog trainer?"

"Not really."

Chen Wen stood up, clapping his hands. "But I have indeed trained quite a number of animals."

Hearing this, Gaston added, "Like the lynx, Wolf Mink, oh, and a Northeast Tiger."

This comment made the guides laugh heartily, clearly thinking Gaston was joking.

But noticing that Chen Wen and his group were not laughing at all, the guide asking the question was stunned.

He couldn’t help but look at Chen Wen, asking, "Is what he said true?"

"Absolutely."

Chen Wen answered, "And there are even more animals; he only mentioned the ones from this recent training."

More?

The guides were wondering internally, unsure if these folks were serious or just joking.

But they soon focused on other matters.

The guide informed them about the planned route and made the necessary arrangements.

"Following this route, we’ll encounter almost all the huntable animals, and the journey concludes by tomorrow afternoon, roughly ending around dusk."

The guide was professional, and Chen Wen’s group had no objections to his arrangements.

Once everyone confirmed the route...

The guide said, "Let’s start the preparations then. The camping gear will be brought over shortly. It’s winter gear; the tents can accommodate two people, and the sleeping bags are warming and insulated, all included in the commission you previously paid."

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

He felt these arrangements were quite satisfactory.

The guide seemed to know Chen Wen was spending generously, and further invited him: "Now, let’s pick the weapons. For hunting here, we mainly use the common types of hunting guns available..."

The guide introduced several types of weapons, but Chen Wen didn’t quite understand them. Fortunately, Roland was experienced, selecting six different hunting guns and ammunition.

After the selection, the guides went to get the gear.

Roland informed the group about the differences in weapon choices: "The six hunting guns I’ve chosen are quite decent. We can switch them up for fun, three long and three short. One long and one short for small game hunting, the others can take down a brown bear, with commonly-used ammunition."

Though Chen Wen didn’t understand the weapon names Roland mentioned, he grasped Roland’s concept.

Which was to pick several guns, ensuring everyone had a good time.

After discussing weapons, Roland added, "Additionally, during the chat, the two guides informed us that technically, this area is considered wilderness. They regularly check the hunting grounds to ensure there are no dangerous beasts, but they can’t guarantee absolute safety. There are still brown and black bears seen here, although they’re hibernating now. Just avoid roaming near tree hollows."

Chen Wen and his group nodded upon hearing this.

But honestly, they weren’t really afraid of brown or black bears.

During the Forest Extreme Challenge, Chen Wen had single-handedly hunted a giant brown bear.

And that too, without any firearms, using only a spear.

Now that everyone had guns, if there were brown bears, they’d take it down with one shot each.

...

About ten minutes later.

The guides returned with supplies.

Seeing the supplies, everyone’s professional instincts kicked in.

Led by Chen Wen, the group approached the supplies, thoroughly inspecting them.

Their professional demeanor left the guides puzzled.

They quickly understood the reason when one guide asked, "Excuse me, are you folks from the Survival Association?"

The shooting range and Survival Association are not too far apart; members of the association often come here for relaxation.

Hearing this, Roland pointed at Fred nearby, "He’s from the Russian Survival Association, but we are not."

Gaston added, "We’re members of other countries’ Survival Associations, oh, and we have a vice president here."

Gesturing, Gaston indicated Hua Yun with his eyes.

Lost in the joy of the upcoming hunt, Hua Yun looked up upon hearing this, nodding at the guides.

The guides swallowed hard, a bit baffled.

If it weren’t for the strict requirements of the shooting range, these folks probably wouldn’t need guides to navigate the grounds, right?

At this moment, Chen Wen commented, "Your supplies are decent, all branded stuff. But this dagger is somewhat ornate; it’s good for cutting meat, but falls short for self-defense."

In response, the guides nodded: "Indeed. With us around, guests typically don’t have to defend themselves with daggers."
