Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 1144 - 13: Unexpected Situation

The next stage of the hunt was right on track.

Everyone took turns shooting, and the number of prey kept increasing.

By the time the sky darkened a bit, they had quite a few kills.

"Five Siberian Roe Deers, one Elk."

The Dog Driving Guide next to them expressed admiration, saying, "I’ve led many hunting groups over the years, but your group’s results are undeniably the best. You’ve exceeded some teams’ harvests in just one afternoon."

Upon hearing this, the group didn’t become too arrogant.

After all, they relied on this craft for living. Hunting is interconnected, and they excel at firearms, making hunting relatively effortless.

Among the six prey, Roland killed two Siberian Roe Deers, Chen Wen one, Hua Yun one, Fred one, and Gaston, with unbelievable luck, killed a male Elk.

Adam wasn’t as lucky, not having any harvest that afternoon.

Still, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely without worrying about the number of prey.

"After about another kilometer, we’ll reach our campsite. There’s a large cleared area where you can set up camp. We’ll take care of cleaning the prey and prepare dinner for everyone."

The Dog Driving Guide indicated to lead the way.

Looking at his supplies, Chen Wen subconsciously asked, "Should we collect some firewood along the way?"

Dog Driving Guide replied with a smile, "No need. There’s a shed at the campsite filled with previously stocked firewood. But if you’d like to collect some, feel free."

"Never mind then."

Chen Wen waved his hand, "Collecting firewood feels a bit like working."

Everyone laughed at the sensible remark.

For Chen Wen, as wilderness survival is a job, collecting firewood indeed feels like working.

Led by the two guides, everyone soon arrived at the campsite.

The campsite was not as simple as described by the guide.

Besides a shed stocked with firewood, there were two homes modified from RVs, seemingly containing camping supplies.

On the open ground, camping areas were cordoned off with ropes and the like.

While the guides prepared dinner, Chen Wen’s group worked on setting up the tents for the night.

With two people per tent, Chen Wen inevitably shared a tent with Hua Yun for the night.

In the cold winter, everyone rested wrapped in sleeping bags in their clothes, so it wasn’t inconvenient.

Once the tent was up and sleeping bags inside.

The sky had started to darken completely.

"It’s night so early,"

Gaston couldn’t help but say, "Feels like it hasn’t been long, yet it’s already dark."

Chen Wen nodded, about to say something.

Farther away, the two guides hurried over.

Chen Wen raised an eyebrow, sensing something was up. Before he could ask, the Dog Driving Guide anxiously said, "We’ve encountered some trouble."

This prompted everyone to stand up.

The guide explained, "While preparing food, we found that the campsite seemed to have been visited by some animal. The RV windows were broken, and the interior was a mess!"

Upon hearing, their expressions slightly changed, "Is the damage severe?"

The guide nodded, "Very severe. Spices were spilled, and stored food was eaten. The untouched ones were contaminated with lots of urine."

Hearing this, Chen Wen immediately deduced the perpetrator, "It’s a Wolf Mink! The camp killer is notorious indeed!"

Beside them, others furrowed brows, recalling unpleasant experiences with Wolf Minks.

"If only food is damaged, we can eat plain roasted meat without spices."

Chen Wen reassured the two guides with a wave.

But the Dog Driving Guide shook his head, "We do have some spices, but our tinder was dragged away by the Wolf Mink, leaving us without any fire-starting materials."

The Dog Driving Guide nodded, "Moreover, it’s all snow or melted snow around, so finding wood for fire-starting is out of the question."

Others’ expressions turned grim at the news.

No fire is indeed a major problem!

Especially in the wild.

"Why not have someone send some supplies over?"

Fred asked.

The Dog Driving Guide shook his head, "The roads here aren’t accessible by cars, and after we left this afternoon, another group came for hunting too. So, nobody dares to come here at night."

Adam felt frustrated at their misfortune.

The camp momentarily fell silent.

"Let’s not think about asking for fire supply anymore,"

Chen Wen broke the silence, saying, "It would be embarrassing if fellow hunters learned we couldn’t start a fire in the wild."

"But we don’t have any usable materials,"

Hua Yun spread his hands, "This really is a case of a skilled woman unable to cook without rice."

Chen Wen shook his head, "Actually, there are usable things, let me take a look."

He glanced at the two guides, "If you don’t mind, can you take me to see your RV? Starting a fire isn’t hard for me, as long as we find some ignition materials."

Exchanging a look, the Dog Driving Guide gestured to Chen Wen to follow him to the RV.

They walked quickly and soon reached the RV.

Pushing open the door, Chen Wen noticed many belongings crammed inside, chaotically scattered.

The air carried a faint pungent odor.

A residual of Wolf Mink’s urine.

"This campsite is more used in summer. Few visit in winter."

The Dog Driving Guide explained while clearing the ground, inviting Chen Wen inside, "So we neglected the inspection. Who knew it would be raided by a Wolf Mink, truly..."

Listening, Chen Wen rummaged through belongings inside.

That Wolf Mink’s havoc was a mess, most belongings had been ruined.

"Like a Magic Pill,"

Chen Wen lamented, pulling out some spices.

The spices resembled leaves, which Chen Wen examined, unable to identify. Unfamiliar with spices, he noticed their dryness, making them suitable tinder.

Seeing Chen Wen’s spices, the Dog Driving Guide remarked, "Those are Laurel Leaves, what are your intentions with them?"

Chen Wen realized, "So these are Laurel Leaves, called aromatic leaves back home."

He then said, "I plan to use them for fire-starting, as they’re dry and easily ignitable."

Fire-starting?

That’s extravagant!

Silently pondering, the guide suggested, "There might be tissues here; could those work?"

Chen Wen nodded, "I’ll check, as dry tissues are excellent tinder."

Then, the guide rummaged a box in the RV, pulling out a pack of tissues.

Chen Wen checked; dry. This could replace aromatic leaves.

After gathering some items, Chen Wen felt he’d secured enough.
