Chapter 1435: Chapter 1435: Do You Like Scarlett Yates?

"Why didn’t you scream when you were being beaten earlier? You seemed pretty tough then. What’s all this shouting about now?" Hayes Simmons said with a dark expression, both angry and worried. "Knox, be honest with me. Why are you defending Scarlett Yates like this? Don’t tell me you two have a deep friendship, because from start to finish, you’ve barely had any contact with her."

Knox Simmons glanced at him sideways, "Who told you that Scarlett and I are just friends?"

"Not friends?" Hayes furrowed his brows even tighter, his face hardened, and his expression turned serious at once. "Knox, do you like Scarlett Yates?"

Knox grinned without a sound, neither admitting nor denying it.

Hayes paused his actions, threw the blood-stained cotton swab towards the trash can, pursed his lips tightly, and his dark eyes slowly narrowed. "Knox, what’s wrong with you? How could you fall for Scarlett Yates? She’s Matthew Saxon’s wife. You’re coveting your friend’s wife. There are so many women in the world, why did you have to like somebody else’s wife? What’s wrong with you?"

Knox hated it when Hayes lectured him with a stern face. As soon as Hayes finished speaking, Knox couldn’t take it anymore. He too turned stormy-faced and said irritably, "When I liked Scarlett, they weren’t even married. Besides, even if they are married, so what? Am I not allowed to like Scarlett just because they’re married?"

"Of course, you can’t like her anymore," Hayes said with a serious expression. "She’s someone else’s wife now. Why do you keep eyeing other people’s belongings? You know very well what the relationship between the Saxon Family and the Simmons Family is, don’t you? Are you really going to risk that relationship for your own selfish desires?"

"Stop lecturing me."

Knox showed an impatient expression. When Hayes was about to disinfect the wound on his face again, Knox stretched out his hand and unceremoniously pushed Hayes away.

"Who I like is my own business. It’s none of your concern. And by the way, Scarlett is not someone else’s property. She’s a person, a living, breathing, and thinking individual. Even if she married Matthew Saxon, that doesn’t mean she belongs to him. Don’t you dare label her with those ridiculous tags."

Covered in aches and soreness from being beaten by Matthew, Knox propped himself up on the sofa with both hands, biting his lip as he slowly sat up, looking at Hayes with a cold smile. "So what if they’re married? People can get divorced. As soon as Scarlett gets divorced, I’ll pursue her right away, and after a year or so of dating, I’ll marry her."

Hayes was stunned for a few seconds, then he also coldly laughed in anger. "Marry? I think your mind’s on marriage. Do you think Mom, Dad, and Grandpa would agree?"

"Never mind Scarlett Yates’ family background. Even just because she was married into the Saxon Family, it’s absolutely impossible for you two."

Knox curled his lips, and because his mouth was also injured, he couldn’t help but wince in pain, making his smile appear somewhat comical. "Brother, I’m not you. No one can stop me from doing what I want. Life is short, only a few decades. Shouldn’t we live as we please? If we don’t even dare to fight for what we want most, because of fear this or that, what’s the point of living?"

Hayes was taken aback, and his face suddenly changed.

What Knox said felt like a hard slap across his face.
